We tested many mattresses at Sleep Advisor, and more often than not, we see questionable cooling whenever memory foam is involved. This premium WinkBeds mattress is said to provide all the body-hugging feel of memory foam but without heat retention. And since those are pretty big promises, I had to put it to the test.
The GravityLux is available in three firmnesses, but I tested the Medium model, which is often a good middle ground for most folks.

Who I Recommend the WinkBeds GravityLux For:
- Average-weight sleepers – I’m average-weight myself, and I felt good lying on the GravityLux. There’s support but also enough pressure relief to keep your body in a healthy posture and comfortable.
- Couples – I think this mattress should work great for most couples and co-sleepers because of how well it combines motion isolation with bounce.
- Hot sleepers – The GravityLux doesn’t overheat, even with all the foam layers, so it should work well for those who sleep hot.
Who I Don’t Recommend the WinkBeds GravityLux For:
- Lightweight sleepers – I think the Medium GravityLux is just too firm for sleepers under 130 pounds. Lightweight sleepers might do better with the softer model or an entirely different mattress.
- Side sleepers – I found this mattress to be too firm for side sleepers. It just wasn’t my jam.
Customer Reviews of the WinkBeds GravityLux

Testing the WinkBeds GravityLux
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
I followed our specific testing methodology when trying out the WinkBeds GravityLux, focusing on categories most sleepers find important. This includes pressure relief, overall support, motion isolation, bounce, and cooling, to name a few.
I also used some tools to help me get specific data on the bed’s performance capabilities, including a heat gun to measure cooling, a pressure map to test pressure relief, and a seismograph to measure motion transfer. Together, these tests gave me the knowledge I needed to score the mattress and paint a better picture of how it performs.

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 7/10 (Medium)
WinkBeds calls this a medium firmness, but it feels slightly firmer than medium-firm if you ask me. We usually rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. I rated the GravityLux a 7, which is classified as firm.
I guess it mostly depends on your weight as well. A heavier person might experience this as a true medium, but average-weight sleepers like myself will definitely find it firmer.
I’ve created the chart below to help you match your sleeping position to the ideal WinkBeds GravityLux firmness option.
SLEEPING POSITION | BEST GRAVITYLUX FIRMNESS OPTION |
Side Sleeper | Soft |
Back Sleeper | Medium |
Stomach Sleeper | Medium and Firm |
Combination Sleeper | Soft and Medium |
How Does the WinkBeds GravityLux Feel?
As I mentioned earlier, this is not a cozy bed. The GravityLux won’t hug all your curves, so there is no cloud-like experience here. You do get some contouring, which is important for pressure relief, but overall, it’s pretty firm for a foam mattress. It’s comfortable, there’s no mistake there. It’s just not cozy.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
According to WinkBeds, all of their models can handle up to 900 pounds collectively or 450 pounds per side.
Side Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | I don’t think the GravityLux would be a good choice for petite side sleepers because of its firmness. Maybe the softer model would be a better option. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | I didn’t like how this mattress felt when I was on my side. It’s too firm around the most sensitive areas, such as my hip and shoulder. It’s a no from me. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | My heavyweight colleague agreed that the WinkBeds GravityLux is too firm for side sleepers. They need more pressure relief, so it might be better to go for the softer one. |
Back Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | I still stand by what I said about this bed being too firm for lightweight sleepers. Even if you sleep on your back, I think you’d prefer a softer bed. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | When I rolled over on my back, the GravityLux painted an entirely different picture. It felt amazing. A big yes for back sleepers in this weight group. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Sleepers under 300 pounds should like how the GravityLux feels. However, according to my heavyweight colleague, you might do better with a WinkBeds Plus if you’re over 300 pounds. |
Stomach Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | Again, it’s a no from me. This bed gives absolutely no sinkage to those under 130 pounds. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | I found my spine aligned and hips elevated, all thanks to the overall firmness. The mattress feels good in this position, but it still feels too hard on my chest. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | According to my colleague who tested this bed for heavy sleepers, the firmer version of the GravityLux is likely to work better for stomach sleepers over 230 pounds. |
Pressure Relief
5/5
We take pressure relief seriously here, so we use a pressure map to evaluate how well a mattress performs in this category. I lie on my back and side to get real-time readings on how much pressure there is and where. If it’s red and yellow, that means there’s pressure, and if it’s blue and green, that means little to no pressure.
As you can see in the results I got, the GravityLux is great at relieving pressure despite how firm it is. I got all blue and green when I was on my side and back.
I still think it’s too firm for side sleepers, but if that’s what you like, go for it without worrying about pressure buildup.

Is the WinkBeds GravityLux Good for Pain Relief?
After testing this mattress left and right, I think it would work well for people looking for pain relief. It is on the firmer side, but the support and alignment it provides are likely to help relieve joint pain.
Back Pain | I experienced excellent spine alignment and was well-supported in all sleeping positions. This leads me to believe that GravityLux can help you sleep better if you have back pain. You do, however, still want to be mindful of its firmness, potentially going for a softer model. Read more about mattresses for back pain here. |
Hip Pain | People with hip pain need as much pressure relief as they can get, and they can get a lot of that with this mattress. However, I’d recommend the softer model if you’re a side sleeper, especially if you struggle with hip pain on the regular. Read more about mattresses for hip pain here. |
Shoulder Pain | The support this bed gives should help keep the shoulders aligned with the rest of the body. Still, some people with shoulder pain might prefer a bit more contouring around this area to help ease the pain. Explore more mattresses for shoulder pain here. |
Support
5/5
The GravityLux mattress has all the right things needed for good support. It has a firm construction and multiple proprietary foams designed to keep your body aligned.
I test support by lying on the bed and checking if any body parts are dipping uncomfortably to the point that my spine feels out of alignment. I felt very supported in every position on the GravityLux. My spine remained straight even when I was on my stomach, which can sometimes be the position where support is lacking.
Motion Isolation
5/5
If you sleep with a partner who is always tossing and turning, or you’re the one constantly moving around, the WinkBeds might be the solution to your problem. The memory foam in this mattress gobbles movement.
I tested this using a seismograph app and got fantastic results that show hardly any movement transfers (big spikes) from one side to the other.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4.5/5
Memory foam tends to retain heat, so it’s usually not a number one choice for those who sleep hot.
I tested for temperature regulation by using a heat gun. I first measured the initial temperature of the mattress without anyone on it. Then, I lay on the bed for five minutes before checking the temperature again. I lay on it for another five minutes and took a 10-minute temperature reading. I was shocked by how little the temperature went up on this mattress, so much so that I had to test it twice. Both times, the temperature went up only about 5 degrees.
The only reason it didn’t get a 5 is that the cover wasn’t cool to the touch, but it’s still impressively cooling.
Bounce
4/5
Bounce is mostly the bed’s responsiveness and pushback. It can help you get in and out of the bed and switch positions.
As you might imagine, this typically benefits combo sleepers, sexually active couples, and people with limited mobility.
I tested the bed’s bounciness with a 10-pound medicine ball. I threw it on the bed, and it landed with a thud. The foam in this mattress responds slowly, but I didn’t feel stuck trying to switch positions.
I gave it a 4 out of 5 here because you’ll likely get even more buoyancy with the addition of latex or coils.
Edge Support
3.5/5
Edge support helps keep the perimeter from sinking if you sleep or sit in this area. This can make it easier to tie your shoes while sitting at the edge of the bed, for example. Plus, it gives co-sleepers more room to spread out at night.
I tested this by sitting and lying on the edge of the bed for a minute each. At first, I was pleasantly surprised by how much edge support this bed had for an all-foam model. I felt secure sitting and bending over, but I noticed some sinkage when I was sitting upright. The same goes for when I got up to stand.
Lying near the edge, I didn’t feel like I was going to roll out of the bed. However, it did give some when I rolled out of bed from a stomach sleeping position, which is why I gave it a score of 3.5 out of 5.
Accessibility
4/5
This category is about how the mattress stands out among the competition.
At first glance, the GravityLux is another memory foam bed, but what makes this bed stand out is its incredible cooling ability, which is often hit or miss with foam beds, especially without a cool-to-the-touch cover.
The reason why I deducted a point here is that this bed doesn’t have any extra features, such as free in-home delivery, and while the trial is industry-standard, there are longer deals out there.
Customer Service
5/5
You can easily communicate with WinkBeds customer service via email and phone. If you choose their online chat, you’ll be left talking to a bot that, as you understand, is not the best at understanding your questions.
Other than that, the company will refund your money if you return the mattress within the duration of the trial, which means there will be no return shipping fees.
Performance for Couples
4.5/5
We rate mattresses for couples by looking at how they perform in other categories couples usually find important. This mostly includes motion isolation, edge support, overall support, bounce, weight capacity, and cooling.
Looking at how the WinkBeds GravityLux performs in general, it would be a great match for most couples. It absorbs motion perfectly, it can handle a lot of weight, it’s great at cooling, and it’s responsive enough for sex. The reason I took off a half-point is because edge support scored a bit lower, but it’s still a viable pick for most partners.

Construction: What’s Inside the WinkBeds GravityLux Mattress?
The GravityLux mattress stands 11 inches tall and features an eco-friendly Tencel® designed to absorb moisture and heat. In addition, 2 inches of gel-infused foam is tufted to the cover. This soft foam material promotes further temperature regulation as well as pressure relief.
- AirCell™ Memory Foam is beneath the cover. This material was designed to relieve pressure while fostering support. The material should provide great motion isolation with its shock-absorbing air capsules, and it is made to be breathable so you can sleep cooler throughout the night.
- The Zoned Progression Foam™ is made to provide targeted support to sensitive areas to help sleepers rest in optimal alignment. It sports firmer support in the hips and is softer beneath the legs and shoulders.
- The Atlas Core Foam™ is a strong material that the brand claims should provide a lifetime of durability. It supports your body weight and works as the overall foundation of the product.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The GravityLux comes rolled and compressed in a box. Once you have the mattress in its desired room, cut up the top of the box and pull your mattress out. Once you remove the plastic covering, your mattress should start to inflate. While this process shouldn’t take long, give your mattress 24-72 hours to be fully inflated.
As your bed starts to take shape, you may notice a chemical smell. While unpleasant, the smell is harmless, and it should dissipate in around 24 hours. Placing your mattress in a well-ventilated area can help eliminate the smell faster.

- OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class 1 Certified – The Tencel used in this mattress was tested by a third party for harmful substances and found safe for children.

WinkBeds GravityLux Mattress FAQs
Should you flip the WinkBed GravityLux mattress?
No, you shouldn’t flip your GravityLux mattress. It is designed so that the softer layers are on the top and the firm base level is on the bottom. If you flip this mattress, you will be sleeping on the firmer support layers.
Is the GravityLux a good mattress?
I think the GravityLux is a good mattress based on my experience while testing it. It performs well in most categories except for slightly questionable edge support. On top of that, it’s sturdy and feels like it would easily last for years without sagging.
How long will my GravityLux mattress last?
Although it depends on how well it is cared for, the GravityLux is a quality-constructed mattress that should serve your sleeping needs for at least a decade. It also comes with a lifetime warranty.

My Verdict of the WinkBeds GravityLux Mattress
In short, this mattress is a great option for anyone looking for an all-foam mattress that’s actually good at temperature regulation. No more sweaty nights! Plus, it’s excellent at motion isolation, pressure relief, and support.
The fact that you can choose between three firmness options makes it even better, especially if you’re a side sleeper because I don’t think this one would work well for that specific sleeping position. All in all, it earned a 4.5 out of 5.
