Sleep Number launched their 360® smart air beds in 2017, featuring Responsive Air™ technology that adjusts the mattress’ firmness while you sleep. There’s a choice of 20 firmness levels, and these can be adjusted manually via the supplied remote or the SleepIQ® app. This app also provides insight into your sleep quality, with mattress pressure sensors using biometrics to gauge heart rate, breathing rate, and movement.
Today we’re comparing the iLE and i10 – two of the three beds in Sleep Number’s Innovation series, which offers luxurious contouring with temperature regulation. The i10 is described by Sleep Number as its most luxurious bed, but let’s see which one wins your heart.

Who I’d Recommend the Sleep Number 360® iLE For
- Individuals with smaller beds – The iLE is available in Twin XL size and up, while the i10 is available in Queen size and up.
- Those looking for a more plush bed – While the iLE has a 6-inch comfort layer (compared to the i10’s 7-inch one), the foams are a little more plush, so it may be better suited to shoppers who love a deep, cozy hug from their bed.
- Couples who like to spread out – Both beds feature reinforced foam perimeter walls, but the iLE offers better edge support, as the taller comfort layer tends to collapse on the i10, making the edges less secure.

Who I’d Recommend the Sleep Number 360® i10 For
- Light to average-weight sleepers – We found the i10 to be a great fit for light to average-weight sleepers in all positions, thanks to its plush yet dense foams and adjustable firmness.
- Hot sleepers – The i10 features ThermaLux® foam, which is infused with ceramic to help keep you cool. It also has gel-infused foam and an extra breathable poly-blend cover.
- Stomach sleepers – Although the i10 has a taller comfort layer, it actually offers more support than the iLE, thanks to its high-density foams and additional targeted support. This makes it more suitable for stomach sleepers, who require a little extra lift in the hip area to keep everything aligned.
Comparing Sleep Number 360® iLE vs Sleep Number 360® i10: Top Similarities
- Adjustable firmness – Each of these Sleep Number beds offers 20 firmness levels – or Sleep Numbers, as the company calls them – and air chambers can be programmed to a different Sleep Number. Responsive Air™ technology even adjusts firmness throughout the night based on your movements.
- Motion isolation – Beds designed for two people (Queen and larger) have two air chambers, which helps to limit motion transfer. We found both beds had good motion isolation, which may be a benefit for light sleepers with restless partners.
- SleepIQ® technology – Both beds are connected to Sleep Number’s SleepIQ® app, which tracks biometrics throughout the night to assess sleep quality.
Comparing Sleep Number 360® iLE vs Sleep Number 360® i10: Key Differences
- Edge support – Both beds feature a reinforced foam rail perimeter that’s designed to offer edge support, but the taller comfort layer on the i10 causes its edge support to be a little lacking. People with limited mobility may prefer the iLE for extra stability when getting in and out of bed.
- Comfort foams – The iLE has a 6-inch comfort layer made of breathable foam, while the i10 has a 7-inch comfort layer with temperature-regulating ceramic and gel-infused foams. The iLE features five-zoned support, while the i10 has seven-zoned support, offering extra contouring at the head and feet.
- Availability – The ‘LE’ in iLE stands for ‘limited edition’, which means that the Sleep Number 360® iLE isn’t always available. Check stock levels before you become too attached to the idea of buying this bed.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
Here at Sleep Advisor, we rate mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the firmest. Both the iLE and i10 feature a choice of 20 adjustable firmness levels – or Sleep Numbers – thanks to the air chambers, which inflate or deflate, according to preference.
Responsive Air™ technology allows the bed to adjust firmness while you sleep, depending on your movements. We found the i10 to be slightly firmer than the iLE, due to its denser comfort foams.
Support
While the i10 likely won’t be supportive enough for incredibly heavy people, we found it offered more support for those weighing above 230 pounds than the iLE did, as it contains denser foam in the comfort layers.
Both beds are great choices for light to average-weight side and stomach sleepers, but we think back sleepers might prefer the i10, as it offers a little more lumbar support, which is necessary for good spine health.
Feel
Both beds feature soft covers that are designed to be breathable and feel cool to the touch. You should experience great pressure relief on both mattresses, thanks to their deep comfort layers. The i10 offers a little more body contouring with its denser foams, while the iLE may be suited to those who prefer things a little more plush thanks to its fluffy pillow top – expect a bit of a deeper hug with this one.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
Although it has a shallower comfort layer, the iLE offers a little extra sinkage, as the foams are less dense. There’s minimal bounce in both the iLE and i10 due to their plush foams and lack of innerspring, which could affect combination sleepers or couples seeking a responsive mattress for intimacy.
Unfortunately, bed sizes featuring dual air chambers can have a gap in the middle when the chambers are inflated to different firmness levels. This shouldn’t be an issue for couples who sleep apart, but those who like to snuggle in the center may find it bothersome.

Comparing Motion Transfer
The Sleep Number 360® iLE and Sleep Number 360® i10 both offer good motion isolation, especially in sizes that offer dual air chambers. Separate chambers mean that movement is restricted to that side of the bed, so you shouldn’t be disturbed by a partner tossing and turning, on either bed.
The thick comfort layers also do a great job of helping to absorb any movement. If you’re a light sleeper who shares with a restless partner, pet, or child, you should find yourself sleeping soundly on both the i10 and iLE.

Comparing Cooling
Both beds offer cooling technology, but the i10 has the edge when it comes to temperature regulation.
You’ll find a cooling cover on both mattresses – the iLE has a breathable poly-blend cover, while the i10 has a Smart 3D poly-blend cover that’s designed to be 50% more breathable than other fabrics. The iLE comfort layer is made with breathable foam to promote airflow and temperature regulation, while the i10’s foams are a little more sophisticated. First, there’s the ThermaLux™ foam, which is infused with ceramic to help draw heat away from the body, and then there’s the gel-infused Ergonomex™ foam, which further aids cooling.
Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)
Sleep Number 360® iLE Construction
The 12-inch Sleep Number 360® iLE smart bed starts with a breathable and sweat-wicking poly-blend cover.
- Below the cover is a 3-inch duvet-style pillow top that’s designed to be super cozy and fluffy.
- The second comfort layer is made of 3 inches of a foam that’s exclusive to the iLE. The foam offers plush contouring and five-zoned support for the knees, hips, lower back, shoulders, and neck, and it helps regulate body temperature with its breathable design.
- The support layer consists of an air support system, made of one or two air chambers, depending on the size of the bed. These air chambers inflate and deflate via hoses that are connected to pumps to adjust the firmness level of the bed.
- The base layer is a 1-inch pad of high-density foam that supports the air chambers and provides durability for the mattress.
- The perimeter features reinforced foam walls, which are designed to offer edge support.
Sleep Number 360® i10 Construction
The Sleep Number 360® i10 is a 13-inch smart bed, with a Smart 3D poly-blend cover that’s designed to be 50% more breathable than other covers.
- The 7-inch comfort layer features two types of foam. ThermaLux™ is ceramic-infused and designed to balance body temperature – ceramic is four times more heat conductive than conventional gel foams, and it doesn’t stiffen in lower temperatures like memory foam does. Then, there’s Ergonomex™ foam, which is infused with a swirl gel. This offers seven-zoned support and is designed to contour close to the body.
- The dual air support system features two air chambers that operate independently, allowing each sleeper to customize their half of the bed with DualAir technology. These inflate/deflate according to the programmed Sleep Number via a hose and pump system.
- The 1-inch base layer pad is made of high-density foam, to cushion the air chambers, providing durability.
- The foam wall perimeter is designed to provide edge support.
Comparing Company Policies & Price
- Warranty – Both the iLE and i10 come with Sleep Number’s 15-year limited warranty. This warranty covers the full cost of repair in the first year, and then a percentage of the cost has to be covered by the consumer. This percentage rises each year, starting at 30 percent in the second year and increasing to 85 percent in the fifteenth year.
- Shipping – Both beds must be delivered using Sleep Number’s premium delivery service, which costs 249 dollars and is available to select areas in all 50 states. The service includes the removal of your old mattress to another room in your home, the setup of your new mattress, and a demonstration on how to use your new bed and the SleepIQ® app. For an extra 49 dollars, your old mattress will be removed and recycled.
- Trial Period – You’ll have 100 nights to test both the iLE and i10, and Sleep Number requires you to try it for at least 30 nights before initiating a return.
- Returns – You’ll receive a full refund (minus any shipping fees) if you return either mattress within the 100-night trial period. However, please note that return shipping must be paid for by the customer – Sleep Number offers a pick-up service for 249 dollars plus tax.
- Price – If cost was going to be a deciding factor, unfortunately, the iLE and i10 come at the same price. Find the best affordable mattresses here.

Final Thoughts
Both air beds feature plush foams with air chambers offering innovative adjustable firmness and sleep-tracking technology, appealing to a wide range of sleepers. Couples could love either bed, thanks to their versatility and good motion isolation, but those who tend to overheat when sharing may prefer the extra cooling features of the i10, while those who spread out may be swayed by the iLE’s good edge support.
Both beds should suit light to average-weight people, though we’d steer back sleepers and heavier sleepers over 230 pounds towards the slightly firmer i10.
