Sealy has been around for well over 100 years, and since their beginning, they’ve continued to adapt to new trends in the mattress industry while delivering quality products to consumers. The Sealy Posturepedic mattress is designed to ensure a good night’s rest by giving sleepers that ideal balance of comfort and good back support.
This 13-inch hybrid mattress comes with a breathable mattress cover, a gel memory foam layer, and individually wrapped coils at the base. The Sealy Posturepedic also features a 10-year warranty, a 90-night trial, free shipping and returns, and free white-glove delivery.
Our review team tested the Soft model of the Sealy Posturepedic, and in this article, we’ll share their findings on this mattress. We’ll cover all you need to know about this bed, including who we recommend it for and who should look for a different mattress option.

Who We Recommend The Sealy Posturepedic For
- Side and back sleepers – We feel the Soft version of this bed is great for side and back sleepers because it provides good support while still being comfortable and contouring around the hips and shoulders. The responsive coil technology plus the premium pressure relief memory foam allows the bed to adapt to different positions and provide targeted support where you need it the most.
- Couples – This bed has excellent motion isolation and edge support, along with a good amount of bounce, all of which should appeal to couples. Motion isolation prevents you from feeling your partner’s movement throughout the night, and edge support ensures that you still feel supported if you spread out to the ends of the bed. Additionally, sexually-active couples typically prefer a bouncier bed.
- Hot sleepers – The Sealy Posturepedic has a SealyChill™ cooling cover that contains cool-to-the-touch fibers to keep you cool and comfortable when you sleep. As such, we think this bed is a great option for those who sleep hot.
Who We Don’t Recommend The Sealy Posturepedic For:
- Stomach sleepers – We don’t recommend this bed (specifically the Soft version) for stomach sleepers because it likely will not be firm enough to provide the right amount of support to keep the pelvis from dipping into the mattress too much, which can comprise spine alignment. The Firm version of the Sealy Posturepedic will likely be better for stomach sleepers.
- Memory foam lovers – If you love the feeling of a classic memory foam mattress, the Sealy Posturepedic might not be the best choice for you. While this mattress does contain some memory foam, it also has a thick coil layer that will also give it more bounce than traditional memory foam beds that only contain foam layers.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
We gave this mattress a 5 out of 10 firmness rating, which we consider to be in the medium range according to our firmness scale.
Our reviewer, Emma, is average-weight and found the Soft version of the Sealy Posturepedic to be pretty plush and comfortable. That being said, she still found this bed to be supportive for her spine, especially when lying on her back and side. This medium firmness could also be advantageous for lighter-weight sleepers, who often benefit from softer mattresses.
We really like that this bed is available in a Soft and Firm version, which gives you the chance to find a Sealy bed that is right for your needs.
How Does It Feel?
Upon first testing the Sealy Posturepedic mattress, Emma noted the plush feeling of the cover and the cooling sensation of this bed.
The plush SealyChill™ cooling mattress cover is comfortable and cozy, yet still feels cool and dry. As you settle into this mattress, you should feel the ComfortSense™ gel memory foam conform to your curves. The coil-filled base of the mattress provides a springy feel, which should aid in repositioning while keeping you well-supported.
- The edge support – We found the Sealy Posturepedic to have strong edge support, which is great news for people who like to sleep at the very edge of their bed, such as couples who like to spread out. The edges of this bed feel supportive and don’t make you feel like you’re going to fall off.
- The coil design – Since this mattress has over 900 individually wrapped coils, it is very supportive, but despite having coils, it also provides great motion isolation, which means motion is less likely to transfer to other sides of the bed. The responsive coil technology also facilitates easier repositioning.
- The multiple firmness options – Sealy has a Soft and Firm version of this bed, which we really like because different firmness levels are preferred by different types of sleepers.
Our Sealy Posturepedic Complaints
- Not great for stomach sleepers – While there are lots of aspects of the Sealy Posturepedic that we love, we don’t recommend the Soft model for stomach sleepers. They will likely find it too soft, which can cause the hips and lower back to sink too low, leading to discomfort or pain. Find better mattresses for stomach sleepers here.
- Slightly shorter trial period – One drawback to the Sealy Posturepedic is that the trial period is only 90 nights, while some other mattress companies have longer trial periods. If you feel like you’d need more time to be sure about this bed, though, you may dislike the shorter trial period.
- Too soft for heavier people – Since we rated this bed a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, it may not provide enough support for heavier people. Find firmer beds here.
Testing the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress: How it Performed
To test the Soft version of this bed, our reviewer laid on the mattress on her side, back, and stomach. She moved around to view the motion isolation and bounce, and she also sat and lay on the edge of the bed to assess the edge support. Additionally, she assessed the bed’s cooling capabilities.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – This mattress is a great fit for lightweight side sleepers. It is soft enough to contour around the hips and shoulders, but it still provides support.
- Average Weight Sleepers – We also really like this bed for average-weight side sleepers. The premium ComfortSense™ gel memory foam adapts to your body, so it is comfortable for the shoulders and hips.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Some heavier folks who sleep on their side may enjoy this mattress, but most might find it too soft, which would cause them to sink in too much. The Firm version would likely be a better fit for heavyweight side sleepers.

Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should enjoy the Soft Sealy Posturepedic bed. The combination of coils and memory foam provides a mix of comfort and support.
- Average Weight Sleepers – We recommend this mattress for average-weight back sleepers as well because it provides targeted support where you need it the most, but it’s also still very supportive.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – While this mattress is great for light and average-weight back sleepers, heavyweight back sleepers might find it to be too plush to keep their body supported. The Firm version of this mattress would likely be preferred by a heavyweight back sleeper.
Browse Beds for Back Sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers will probably find this bed too soft, which means their hips and lower back will sink into the mattress too much. A firmer option is better for this group.
- Average Weight Sleepers – We recommend that an average-weight stomach sleeper finds a firmer bed, such as the Firm version of the Sealy Posturepedic. A firmer bed should help provide better spinal alignment for the lower back.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Both stomach sleepers and heavier people need a firmer bed for more support. We don’t recommend the Soft Sealy Posturepedic for plus-size stomach sleepers.
Pressure Relief & Pain
This bed has good pressure relief with its ComfortSense™ gel memory foam. This foam disperses your weight across the mattress, which helps relieve pressure. Also, the mattress cover has a soft, plush feel to further help with pressure points.
Back Pain – The Sealy Posturepedic helps alleviate back pain by molding the body’s shape while maintaining appropriate support. The mattress has a combination of memory foam and individually-wrapped coils that work together to relieve pressure and provide back support. The only exception would be stomach sleepers with back pain since this bed is too soft to protect their lower backs from curving due to the hips sinking too far. The Firm version of this bed might be a better fit for stomach sleepers with back pain.
More: Best Firm Mattress for Back Pain
Hip Pain – We feel this bed should be appealing to those with hip pain because of the cushion provided by the ComfortSense™ gel memory foam. This layer provides pressure relief on the hips. However, there is still enough support from the coils in the mattress.
Shoulder Pain – The Sealy Posturepedic bed should help alleviate shoulder pain because the memory foam allows you to sink into the mattress just enough to relieve pressure, while still maintaining spinal support. Since this bed is so soft, side sleepers with shoulder pain will likely find enough relief.
Support
The Sealy Posturepedic provides great support for back and side sleepers. Even though the bed is soft, the individually wrapped coils create a strong base layer that is sturdy and supportive. Additionally, the edge support provided by this mattress is really great, which is ideal for couples or those who like sleeping on the very edge of the bed.
However, stomach sleepers and plus-size people will likely not find this bed to be supportive enough.
Motion Isolation
The Sealy Posturepedic has fantastic motion isolation, which means movement shouldn’t be transferred from one side of the bed to the other. The individually-wrapped coils in this mattress move independently, which minimizes motion transfer for a better sleep experience. Couples often prefer a bed with high motion isolation because it helps prevent disruptions throughout the night.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
This mattress has excellent cooling qualities that help regulate the body’s temperature, keeping you cool, dry, and comfortable while you sleep. The individually-wrapped coils allow for extra breathability throughout the bed. Not only that, but the memory foam layer of the mattress contains gel to keep the foam from overheating. Lastly, the SealyChill™ cooling mattress cover contains cool-to-the-touch fibers that keep you cool and dry.

Bounce
If you enjoy some bounce in your bed, we think the Sealy Posturepedic is a viable option. This bed has good bounce to it, which should help you change positions easier. For those with limited mobility or are a regular combination sleeper, this is a valuable feature in a bed since it means the layers bounce back to their original position quicker.
Edge Support
We really like the edge support that this bed has to offer. Quality edge support allows you to more comfortably sit or sleep near the edge of a mattress. For couples, in particular, this means you should be able to spread out when you sleep without feeling like you’ll roll off.
Performance for Couples
We like this mattress for couples because of its edge support, motion isolation, and bounce. The motion isolation helps couples so that they don’t disturb each other when they move about at night, while the edge support gives them more space to spread out comfortably on the bed. Lastly, the bounce provided by this mattress could be appealing to sexually-active couples.
Preference-based Features
Multiple Firmness Options
By providing Soft and Firm options, Sealy gives consumers more choices to find a bed that’s better tailored to their needs.
Exceptional Edge Support
The Sealy Posturepedic provides edge-to-edge consistent support with over 900 individually wrapped coils that provide ample support and distribute weight evenly throughout the bed. This edge support is helpful for people who like to sleep on the edges of their bed.
Good Bounce
People who change positions a lot or struggle with mobility typically prefer beds with a bit of “push back” or bounce that assists movement. Sexually-active couples also benefit from this feature. We found that the Sealy Posturepedic has a good level of bounce.
Allergy Sensitive
The Sealy Posturepedic mattress also has Surface-Guard Techonology™, which protects the mattress surface from common allergens and bacteria. If you have sensitive allergies or skin, this mattress could be a good fit for you.

Construction: What’s Inside the Sealy Posturepedic?
The Sealy Posturepedic Soft hybrid mattress stands a total of 13 inches tall and comes in a variety of sizes, ranging from a Twin bed to a Split California-King bed. Although our review focuses on the Soft model specifically, the Sealy Posturepedic mattress is available in both Soft and Firm models.
- At the top of the bed, you’ll find the soft, SealyChill™ cooling mattress cover that is made of cool-to-the-touch fibers designed to regulate temperature right at the surface. This quilted mattress cover features a gray-and-white color scheme. Along with its cooling design, this Sealy cover has a plush feel to it. The SealyChill™ cooling mattress cover should help keep you dry and cool, which is especially helpful if you often run hot at night.
- Sitting just below the cover, the foam layer is a ComfortSense™ gel memory foam that conforms to your body and disperses your weight evenly across the mattress for top-notch pressure relief in sensitive areas. This memory foam layer also helps absorb movement, adding to this bed’s motion-isolating capabilities. Also, since this foam layer contains gel, it provides extra cooling qualities, assisting the mattress cover in temperature regulation.
- At the base of the bed is a layer of over 900 encased coils that helps with airflow, and provides support and durability throughout the mattress, including at the edges. Since the coils are encased separately, they move independently, which further helps with motion isolation.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
When you buy a Sealy Posturepedic mattress, your purchase includes white-glove delivery, which means the company will deliver and unbox your new bed for you.
After your mattress is unboxed, you may notice some off-gassing from the mattress. While this is temporary, you may want to give your new Sealy bed a day to air out before putting your linens onto the bed.

Our Verdict
After testing the Soft version of the Sealy Posturepedic mattress, we think it could be good for side and back sleepers. The mattress has several layers that provide support, comfort, and cooling, all in one product.
While this bed may not be for everyone, such as stomach sleepers or those who prefer an all-foam design, we think it could appeal to hot sleepers, people with limited mobility, and couples.
Overall, we rate this mattress a 4.5 out of 5. While its 90-night trial period isn’t the longest out there, it’s still a good amount of time to see if the Sealy Posturepedic is the right fit for you.
