Pros
Euro top – With a softness you can immediately feel, the Euro top provides a hug-like cradle.
Zoned support – The individually wrapped coils are zoned to provide more support to heavier areas of the body.
Great support – Combining pressure-relieving foam with high-gauge coils provides a bed that has exceptional support.
Cons
Shorter sleep trial than competitors – I wish the sleep trial was a little longer so people can be certain this is the bed they want.
In-the-bed type of feel – Those who like a firmer sleep space may feel that they are sleeping ‘in’ the bed instead of ‘on top of’ it.

Editor’s note: We are working on updating our video review. For the latest findings, please refer to our written review.

Who I Recommend the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ For:

  • Heavyweight sleepers – This bed was designed specifically for heavier people, and it does a knockout job in this department. Nolah has designed the Evolution Comfort+ so that it has both welcoming softness and exceptional support.

  • All sleep positions – A mattress that works for all sleep positions is somewhat of a rarity, but I think that back, stomach, side, and combination sleepers will be comfortable on this bed.

  • People with back pain – The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is constructed with both pressure-relieving foams and supportive coils that promote spinal alignment. If you experience back pain, this mattress could help soothe your aches and pains.

Who I Don’t Recommend the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ For:

  • Those who like a firm bed  – Many people will appreciate the plush contouring of the Nolah Evolution Comfot+, but those who like a firmer feel will likely not enjoy this softer model.

  • Budget shoppers – The Evolution Comfort+ is made with multiple layers of quality materials, and while I think it is worth the cost, I also understand that it may put it out of some people’s price range. With this being said, there are plenty of great budget-friendly mattresses available.

Customer Reviews of the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ rates 4.8 stars out of 5 on Nolah’s website. Some customers have mentioned how the Comfort+ gives them some cradling while remaining supportive, with several people praising this bed for alleviating their back pain.

Testing the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

Sleep Advisor uses analytical data and hands-on evaluations to provide a balanced and detailed overview. We like to have multiple testers try out the various features of a bed, and for the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, my teammate, senior staff writer Sosha Lewis, and I ran it through a battery of tests.

We looked at cooling, pressure relief, and motion isolation using a temperature gun, pressure map, and seismograph app. We also dropped a 10-pound medicine ball to check how well the mattress bounced back. We also want to get a hands-on feel for a bed, which is why we tried it out in various positions to let you know how different types of sleepers may feel on it.

For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 5/10

Mattress Firmness Level 5

Considering this bed was designed for bigger sleepers, I expected it to be firm, but instead, it had more of a medium/medium-plush feel. Based on our firmness scale, which is right in the middle, I rated this bed’s firmness a 5 out of 10. For reference, a 1 would be the softest possible fee and a 10 the hardest.

How Does the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Feel?

As soon as I plopped down on this bed, I was taken aback by the gentle softness of the Euro top. As I began to move about, I was equally impressed with how the bed supported me in each sleep position that I tried, as well as how it seemed to work for different body types. Overall, it feels like being wrapped in a gentle yet solid hug.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ can support up to 1,000 pounds.

Side Sleepers

Body TypeWeight RangeTester Feedback
Lightweight SleepersLess than 130 poundsA combination of spinal alignment and soft contouring around the hips and shoulders makes this a great pick for lightweight side sleepers.
Average-Weight Sleepers 130-230 poundsA bed that has outstanding spinal support and pressure relief, as this one does, makes it a great fit for average-weight side sleepers.
Heavyweight SleepersMore than 230 poundsThe Evolution Comfort+ foam layers should stay soft and contour around pressure points as the coils help keep the spine aligned. Heavyweight side sleepers should find quality sleep with this mattress.

Back Sleepers

Body TypeWeight RangeTester Feedback
Lightweight SleepersLess than 130 poundsFor back sleepers on the lighter end of the scale, this mattress should feel very plush around the body. The foam acts as a cushion for the spine, while the coils provide support.
Average-Weight Sleepers 130-230 poundsWhen I tested this sleep position, I enjoyed the sink. It allowed me to feel cozy, but I never felt stuck.
Heavyweight SleepersMore than 230 poundsAlthough a firmer mattress may provide slightly better support and weight distribution, for a softer bed, the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ does a fantastic job.

Stomach Sleepers

Body TypeWeight RangeTester Feedback
Lightweight SleepersLess than 130 poundsIt may be designed for heavier people, but lighter sleepers should experience excellent lumbar support when sleeping on their stomachs.
Average-Weight Sleepers 130-230 poundsGiven the soft Euro top and memory foam layers, I expected that my spine would sag and curve because my hips were dipping too far into the mattress, but this didn’t happen. Stomach sleepers often don’t get to feel both supported and as if they are being hugged when using a softer mattress.
Heavyweight SleepersMore than 230 poundsHeavyweight stomach sleepers should sink a bit more, but that is to be expected. That said, these sleepers should still feel that their hips are elevated and their spine is aligned.

Pressure Relief

4/5

Sosha used the pressure map device to test this and gave me her results and personal evaluations. When we looked at the image of her on her back, she was perplexed because it showed primarily light blue with a small smattering of light green. These colors indicate that very low pressure was detected, but Sosha said she felt like she sank too much and could feel pressure on her lower back.

When she flipped to her side, the image and how it felt to her were more in line. The image was dotted with some yellow and even a couple of light red spots along her hips and side, indicating that more pressure was detected.

Sosha said that while the amount of pressure wouldn’t be a dealbreaker, it wouldn’t be her first choice if for side sleepers. She also noted that the pressure was more significant when she shifted forward on her side, and she felt more relief when she put more weight towards the back of it.

Nolah Evolution Comfort pressure maps Sosha
Sosha’s pressure map results for the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ mattress

I deducted a point because of the yellow and red areas when Sosha was on her side and because she stated that she wasn’t crazy about how it felt on her back, even though the pressure maps didn’t indicate much pressure.

Is the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Good for Pain Relief?

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ use of supportive, individually wrapped coils, and contouring foams should make it a great choice for those with back pain. However, this bed may be too soft, causing sleepers to sink too far into it, to relieve shoulder and hip pain.

Back PainThe zoned and individually wrapped coils should provide excellent support for different body types and sleep positions, which could help with back pain. Read more about mattresses for back pain here.
Hip PainFor average-weight and heavier sleepers, I think the plushness of this bed may cause them to sink through the layers too quickly. This could create pressure around their hips, leading to discomfort. Read more about mattresses for hip pain here.
Shoulder PainSimilar to how I feel about sleepers with hip pain, those with shoulder pain may find that this bed doesn’t ease it. The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ may be too soft, leading to increased pressure around the shoulder. Explore more mattresses for shoulder pain here.

Support

5/5

The Evolution Comfort+ was designed for heavier sleepers who may find it challenging to get a bed that properly supports them. Often when they do find a mattress that is supportive enough, it is a very firm bed and may not offer much in the way of comfort. With this bed, you can get softness and support with its sag-resistant foams and the coils with targeted zones.

This is great if you like extra firmness, but if you are a heavyweight sleeper who prefers a soft cradle when you sleep, you should be able to have that option without the concern of sagging into your mattress.

Motion Isolation

4/5

I use a seismograph app to test how much motion is transferred from one side of the bed to the other. This allows me to gauge how likely a partner’s or pet’s movements will transfer to the other side of the bed, potentially disrupting sleep.

Motion Isolation Test
Seismograph test results to see how well the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ isolates motion

Although my measuring tool detected some motion, it was slight. Considering that I was putting effort into my bouncing and rolling, I was pleased with how the foam of the Evolution Comfort+ isolated motion to my side of the bed.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

5/5

Nolah typically does cooling well, and the Evolution Comfort+ was no exception. Sosha helped test temperature regulation. She shared that when she touched the mattress, she was immediately taken with how cool it felt, and the temperature gun reading showed a surface temperature of 69.5 degrees. However, even if it has a chilled feel and a low surface temperature, it doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t heat up when a body is on it.

So, after lying on it for five minutes, she took the temperature again. It had risen to 73.7 degrees. Then, she got back on for an additional five minutes, and at that point, it was at 75.3 degrees. Considering that the bed felt cool to the touch, was comfortably cool while Sosha was on it, and the temperature went up less than 6 degrees, we gave it a 5 out of 5.

Bounce

5/5

Have you ever been repositioning in the middle of the night and felt like you were fighting your way out of quicksand? If so, you know how vital bounce is.

When a bed has good bounce, it responds quickly when weight is applied, making it easy to move around. This is particularly important to combination sleepers and sexually active couples.

Sosha tested this bed by dropping a 10-pound medicine ball and was impressed by how easily it popped back up. Sosha also rolled and moved around on it; she loved how easy and comfortable it was to move on this mattress.

Edge Support

4/5

Nolah states that the Evolution Comfort+ uses reinforced perimeter coils that help give it more support around the edges. Of course, we wanted to test this out for ourselves. Sosha lay on the edge for a minute and felt very secure. The perimeter coils did their job and held her in place.

She didn’t sink much when sitting on the bed, but she didn’t feel quite as comfortable as she did when lying on it. We agreed that bending over to tie your shoes will probably feel less supportive for shorter people because the bed is 14 inches tall, with the base providing additional height. We still thought this bed did a good job with edge support and only deducted one point.

Accessibility

4/5

With so many beds available, your choice may be made by how a mattress or manufacturer goes above and beyond. We check out unique features and policies that set them apart to gauge this.

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is specifically designed for heavier sleepers, but due to its soft, contouring Euro topper, I think lighter folks will also like it. Although it is a tall and heavy mattress, Nolah included handles to make moving it easier.

The company also offers free shipping, a lifetime warranty, and financing. Shoppers who are sure that they want a Nolah can also opt out of the 120-night sleep trial and save $100. However, I deducted a point because they charge you $99 to return the mattress.

Customer Service

4/5

When I used Nolah’s customer service live chat, I liked chatting with a human instead of a bot. Amber, my rep, was polite and responsive. You can also contact Nolah through email; they also have social media accounts.

However, I deducted a point because they don’t list a phone number under their “Contact” information. Most people probably prefer an online chat or email nowadays, but not everyone does. This could be irritating for shoppers who would rather make a call.

Performance for Couples

4.5/5

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a unicorn in the mattress world because it has exceptional motion isolation and bounce. Getting high marks in both categories doesn’t usually happen, but this bed should allow you to move quickly and not feel your partner’s movements. It also has good edge support and cooling so that couples can comfortably spread out and keep cool with the extra body heat.

I deducted only half of a point because it is very soft, and some couples may have difficulty agreeing on whether it’s the right feel for both of them.

Construction: What’s Inside the Nolah Evolution Comfort+?

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is constructed to support up to 1,000 pounds. It casts a luxurious shadow with its 14-inch profile and quilted Euro top. Although it was designed for heavier sleepers, I think that it can be a great fit for a variety of sizes.

Nolah Evolution Comfort Construction
A look inside the construction layers of the Nolah Evolution Comfort+
  • The organic cotton cover has ArcticTex™ fibers woven into it. This provides a soft and cool point of contact.
  • The fibers of the cover pull body heat to the 2-inch high-thermal conductivity foam Euro topper, where it’s then dissolved. It also acts as a cradling entry into the mattress’s supportive layers.
  • Below the Euro topper, there is a 4-inch AirBorder™ gusset that promotes air circulation. This layer of the bed allows body heat to escape instead of being trapped inside.
  • Between the AirBorder™ and the coils, you’ll find three layers that add up to 4 inches of foam. This includes a layer of 2-inch AirFoam™ HD that provides additional cooling, as well as pressure relief and stability. This is followed by an inch of sag-resistant CertiPUR-US® foam and one more layer of a 1-inch -thick flexible foam that adds bounce.
  • These foam layers rest atop 8-inch lower-gauge coils that are grouped into three targeted zones. Nolah individually wraps the coils to help with flexibility and motion isolation. This section of the mattress also has reinforced perimeter coils that enhance edge support.
  • The coils rest on a durable foundation of recycled plant fiber that helps provide overall stability.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

After you remove your Evolution Comfort+ from the box and unroll it, you may notice a chemical smell. This is normal in many bed-in-a-box mattresses, and it should dissipate within a day or two. You can speed up this process by opening windows or placing the mattress in a well-ventilated room.

Certifications

  • CertiPUR-US® – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

My Verdict of the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ was designed with heavyweight sleepers in mind, but I think that it will be a comfortable and supportive choice for sleepers of all body types and sleep positions. It is unique in that it has both excellent bounce and motion isolation. Plus, it did a great job regulating temperature, and I liked that this was a softer bed, which isn’t usually what you encounter in beds designed for heavier people.

Overall, the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ earned an impressive 4.4 out of 5.
