If you’re looking for an eco-friendly latex mattress with a soft feel, I suggest you check out the Nest Finch mattress. Nest Bedding was founded in 2011 and was one of the first brands to sell the bed-in-a-box design. Their Finch mattress is made from quality materials and comes with a Lifetime Renewal Exchange deal.
I tested the Medium Nest Finch mattress with one of my colleagues, Loren Bullock, and together we compiled information about the bed. In this review, I’ll share what we found during our testing, as well as important construction details, the pros and cons of this bed, and who I’d recommend it to.

Who I Recommend the Nest Finch For:
- Hot sleepers – Latex mattresses typically expel heat, keeping the mattress cool throughout the night. If you get hot while sleeping, the Nest Finch is a great choice as it is a fully latex mattress.
- People with limited mobility – People with mobility issues can benefromt from a mattress with high bounce and responsiveness like the Nest Finch. This bounce will help you easily get on and off the bed and move from one position to another without feeling stuck.
- Back sleepers – Back sleepers, especially those of light or average weights, should find the Nest Finch to be really comfortable. I’d say it is firm enough to support a healthy spine alignment but is still cushioned enough for pressure relief in this position.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Nest Finch For:
- Side sleepers with shoulder pain – While lying on my side I noticed some sinking around my shoulders due to the mattress’ medium firmness. I can imagine this sinkage would be uncomfortable for people who experience shoulder pain.
- Heavier folks – Since I rated the Nest Finch a 4 out of 10 for firmness, I don’t recommend this mattress for heavier folks. A more firm mattress should provide more spine support and overall comfort for heavier people.
- Stomach sleepers – Similarly to heavier folks, stomach sleepers will probably feel more supported by a mattress that is firmer than the Nest Finch in Medium. In this case, I recommend trying out the Firm version of the Finch or visiting our top mattress picks for stomach sleepers.
Customer Reviews of the Nest Finch Mattress
Customers on the Nest Bedding website give the Nest Finch mattress an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. Some aspects of the mattress that customers particularly enjoyed are its cooling qualities, removable cover, and pressure relief. Some customers did note that the mattress is very heavy and others said that it was too soft for their preference.
Testing the Nest Finch Mattress
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
At Sleep Advisor, we test mattresses in various ways so we can get the most comprehensive information about each bed. Along with looking at specific performance features like cooling, edge support, bounce, and motion isolation, we pay attention to pressure relief and support.
How a mattress feels is also subjective to your weight, so I tested the bed as average-weight sleeper and had Loren test it as our lighweight sleeper. This way, it gives us even more details of how this bed can accommodate different body types.
To learn more about our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.
Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 4/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your body type will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers might experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
At Sleep Advisor, we rate mattresses on a firmness scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the most firm. I would rate the medium version of the Nest Finch as a 4 out of 10, which means it’s quite soft.
The surface of the mattress is plush with a squishy pillow top. While the bed is pretty soft, it is still supportive enoughfor because of the bouncy latex material.
How Does It Feel?
The Nest Finch mattress is soft and cloudlike with a squishy surface. When lying on the Nest Finch, the latex contoured to my body nicely, providing a subtle pushback. However, the cover didn’t feel cool to the touch.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
While the total weight that the Nest Finch can support will depend on the size of the bed, Nest says that the Queen-size Finch can comfortably support up to 800 pounds.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Loren, our lightweight mattress tester for the Finch, thinks that lightweight side sleepers will sleep very comfortably on this mattress. She felt like her spine was aligned properly and experienced pressure relief around her hips and shoulders. The mattress was soft enough for her to comfortably sleep on her side.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – As an average-weight mattress tester, I really enjoyed the Nest Finch when lying on my side. The latex provided great cushioning for pressure points. There was a little bit of sinking by my shoulders, but I think that could be remedied with the right pillow.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight side sleepers may find this mattress to be a little bit too soft, especially if there’s too much sinkage around pressure points. While side sleepers typically like a softer bed, heavyweight side sleepers may need something slightly more firm to maintain enough spine support. Heavyweight side sleepers might want to check out the Firm version of the Nest Finch instead.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should find the Nest Finch suitable for their needs. Loren felt that the bed provided ample cushioning and she still felt supported. Since this latex mattress is so responsive, Loren added that she felt lifted and not as though she was sinking too much into the mattress.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – When lying on my back, it felt buoyant and responsive but still comfortable and not like I was on a trampoline. I would recommend this bed to average-weight back sleepers.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight back sleepers may enjoy this bed, but it will ultimately come down to personal preference. There is a pretty even weight distribution across the bed and it can support up to 800 pounds. However, you may feel like this mattress is too soft, in which case the Firm model might be better.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers will probably find the Nest Finch in Medium to be too soft. Even lightweight sleepers might feel like their hips are sinking too much and that their spine is not lifted enough.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Similarly to lightweight people, I think this bed is just too soft for average-weight stomach sleepers. I didn’t feel as lifted as I wanted to be.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers and heavyweight sleepers both typically prefer a firmer mattress for extra support. Heavyweight stomach sleepers will most likely find that this Nest Finch far too soft.
Pressure Relief
4/5
The latex in the Finch did a wonderful job of contouring my body, which is helpful for pressure relief. The mattress provides a soft pushback that bridges the gap between comfort and support for those sensitive areas.
Is the Nest Finch Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
Overall, I think the Nest Finch mattress could be good for pain relief, but its success in relieving pain will ultimately depend on your specific pain, body type, and sleeping position.
Back Pain
The Finch is an excellent mattress for back pain relief. This mattress could be especially helpful for back sleepers since it’s comfortable and supportive for a healthy spine alignment. That said, it’s not supportive enough for stomach sleeping and could wind up worsening lower back pain if the hips dip too low.
Hip Pain
This mattress can be a good choice for people with hip pain since it contains latex to help with pressure relief. However, if you are a stomach sleeper with hip pain, the Nest Finch may be too soft for you. You’ll likely feel like your hips are sinking too much into the mattress, which may worsen hip pain.
Shoulder Pain
If you experience shoulder pain, you may dislike this mattress. When lying on my side, there was some sinking around my shoulders, and I think that for someone with pre-existing shoulder pain, this sinkage is not ideal and could cause further discomfort.
Support
4/5
This mattress provides really good support, which is important for maitning spine alignment. When testing this mattress, my shoulders sank slightly, but I generally felt supported. That said, it’s not ideal for support when it comes to stomach sleeping since people of all sizes won’t be enough lifting in the midsection.
Motion Transfer
4/5
The Nest Finch’s motion isolation is pretty good. The density of the latex layers mostly withheld movement. Even so, I still felt some motion transfer when Loren was getting in and out of the bed. Motion isolation is an important factor to consider if you share a bed with a partner. For even better motion isolation, though, take a look at our favortie memory foam mattresses.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4/5
Since this mattress is entirely latex, it does well at keeping heat from building up, which is good news if you’re someone looking for a cooler bed to sleep on. However, the Finch didn’t feel cool to the touch, so that could be a drawback if you’re in search of something with strong cooling at the surface. You can check out more of our picks for the best cooling mattresses.
Bounce
5/5
The Nest Finch mattress has fantastic bounce. It’s easy to move around on, which is exactly what a latex hybrid mattress should be. You may be looking for a buoyant, responsive mattress if you have limited mobility, are a combination sleeper, or are sexually active.
Learn More: Best Mattress for Sex
Edge Support
3/5
This mattress has mediocre edge support, which can be a drawback for couples who like to spread out to the edges of the bed or people who have trouble getting in and out of bed. Laying at the edge of the edge is fine, but I was not able to sit on the edge of the bed without sliding off. Since the pillow top is fairly thick, there is quite a bit of sink near the edges of the bed.
Performance for Couples
4/5
There are certain characteristics that couples can benefit from in a mattress, including menial motion transfer, cooling, some bounce, and good edge support. Not only does the Nest Finch bed excel in bounce, but it also has pretty good motion isolation, which means couples should not feel each other tossing and turning throughout the night. They may, however, be disrupted when their partner gets in and out of bed. Another drawback is the averag eedge support on this bed, which may make it harder to spread out. That said, I think this best had plenty of nice attributes for couples.
Plus, if you want a King or California King Nest Finch, you have the option to purchase a “dual split” firmness. This means that each side of the bed can be a different firmness level, catering to each partner’s needs more closely.
Preference-Based Features
Lifetime Renewal Exchange (LRE)
Nest Bedding provides a perk for their customers called the Lifetime Renewal Exchange (LRE). With the LRE, you can renew your mattress one time, whether it’s during the first 365 nights or many years down the line. This renewal consists of receiving a brand-new comfort layer for free. Also, the LRE is sustainable because, instead of replacing the entire mattress, you only have to replace the comfort layer, which can reduce mattress waste in landfills.
Family Owned and Made in the USA
Nest bedding is a family owned business that prides themselves on manufacturing

Eco-Friendly Materials
Nest uses eco-friendly materials in their mattresses. For instance, the mattress cover is made with organic cotton and Joma Wool®.
Construction: What’s Inside the Nest Finch Mattress?
The Nest Finch mattress is 10.5 inches tall and is topped with a removable foam cover. This mattress cover is made of stretch cotton and eco-flex quilting, which accounts for the cloud-like, plush feel of the bed.
- Below the pillow top, there’s a 3-inch layer of natural talalay latex, which accounts for the mattress’ responsiveness, motion isolation, and cooling qualities. This layer is where Nest Bedding customizes the firmness level of their different mattresses; depending on whether you purchase the Medium or Firm version of the Nest Finch, this layer will feel different.
- The base of the mattress is a 6-inch layer of natural talalay latex, which is much more firm than the layer above. This firm layer acts as a supportive base for the mattress and for you while you sleep. A firm base layer of a mattress not only helps structurally, but also increases durability and longevity.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
When unboxing your mattress, Nest suggests you allow 12 to 24 hours for the mattress to fully expand. There may be a minimal off-gassing scent when you first unbox the mattress, but Nest airs out foam and latex in their factory prior to shipping the mattresses to you, which decreases the degree of off-gassing.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
Noteworthy Updates:
- The most noteworthy update that Nest Bedding has made to this mattress is changing its name. This bed was formerly called the Natural Hybrid Latex Mattress and is now called the Finch. According to the Nest Bedding website, nothing about this mattress has changed other than its name.

My Verdict
The Nest Finch mattress has many great qualities, whether it be the excellent responsiveness, the eco-friendly design, or the great balance between support and pressure relief. However, this soft mattress isn’t the best option for stomach sleepers or heavier people since it’s likely not supportive for these groups. However, don’t forget they have this bed in Firm, which could be a great solution if you’re still interested in the Finch.
I do think this mattress is a solid option for some people, especially hot sleepers, and light to average-weight side, back, and combination sleepers. The latex is responsive to pressure points and should still support your spine. Best of all, Nest Bedding’s 365-night trial period is a fantastic way to try out the Finch bed without making a serious financial commitment just yet. This mattress earned an overall score of 4 out of 5.
