Nectar and Tempur-Pedic are both big names in the mattress world. Nectar is known for their competitively-priced and easily delivered foam beds, and Tempur-Pedic is known for their famous super soft and “sinking” Tempur® material.
In this comparison, we’ll be taking a closer look at how these brands compare, and more specifically, how the Nectar Original squares up to the TEMPUR-Cloud®. Both are all-foam beds, and both come in a box, but that’s about where the similarities end.

Nectar vs. Tempur-Pedic: How Are They Similar?
- Materials – The Nectar and TEMPUR-Cloud® are all-foam mattresses, which gives them both a sinking, contouring feeling rather than much bounce.
- Motion isolation – Because they’re made entirely of foam, they both have excellent motion isolation, meaning, when your partner moves you’re less likely to be disturbed.
- Delivery – Both mattresses are “beds-in-a-box.” This means they’ll arrive at your doorstep, compressed in a box. Upon unboxing, they’ll take about 24 to 72 hours to fully decompress and off-gas any chemical smell.
Nectar vs. Tempur-Pedic: How Are They Different?
- Firmness – The Nectar mattress is firm, while the TEMPUR-Cloud® is medium-firm and has softer, more “sinking” foam. This makes the TEMPUR-Cloud® a better option for side sleepers.
- Trial – Nectar offers a year-long trial period with their beds, and Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night trial period, which is shorter than most mattresses.
- Warranty – Nectar offers a Lifetime warranty on their beds, whereas the Tempur-Pedic ones come with a 10-year warranty.
Nectar vs. Tempur-Pedic: Firmness, Feel, and Construction
Firmness & Feel
Our team rates mattress firmness on a scale that goes from 1 to 10. While 1 is the softest possible feel, 10 is like sleeping on a board. Most beds fall somewhere in the middle of this.
Mattress | Sleep Advisor Firmness Rating | Feel | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|---|
Nectar | 7.5/10 | Firm | The Nectar is a 7.5 out of 10 in terms of firmness, which puts it at a solid “firm” on our firmness scale. Most memory foam beds tend to rate at a 6 or 6.5, so we were a little surprised by this bed’s firmness. That said, it feels great for back and stomach sleeping. |
TEMPUR-Cloud® | 6.5/10 | Medium-Firm | The TEMPUR-Cloud® is a 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This is more typical of all-foam mattresses. It also uses a foam that is slower moving and more “sinking” feeling, like a traditional memory foam bed. |
Mattress Construction
These beds are constructed similarly. They both have three layers of foam – the top of each is a softer, more contouring layer of memory foam, followed by a middle, firmer layer of foam, and then a bottom layer of thicker, very firm foam that provides the bed with its shape and stability.
Both come with a moisture-wicking, breathable cover, as well. The only real difference is that the TEMPUR-Cloud®’s top layer is made from their proprietary Tempur® material, which has that very slow, cushioning feel.
What’s the Nectar Mattress Made Of?
- Moisture-wicking, antimicrobial cover
- 1 inch of memory foam
- 3-inch support foam
- 8-inch conventional foam
- Shift-Resistant Lower Cover
What’s the TEMPUR-Cloud® Mattress Made Of?
- 360® stretch cover
- Tempur® comfort layer
- Tempur® support laye

Nectar vs. Tempur-Pedic: Mattress Testing Performance
Pressure Relief
- Nectar Mattress Pressure Relief Score: 4/5
- TEMPUR-Cloud® Pressure Relief Score: 5/5
To find out how well each mattress relieves pressure, we use a pressure map that tracks pressure buildup in real-time by generating an image. Yellow or red signal pressure buildup, while green and blue mean little to no pressure.
Our Nectar test showed minimal pressure while back sleeping and moderate pressure while side sleeping. The Tempur-Pedic showed little to no pressure buildup when back or side sleeping, making the TEMPUR-Cloud® a better choice for side sleepers.
Support
- Nectar Mattress Support Score: 5/5
- TEMPUR-Cloud® Support Score: 4/5
In order to gauge how well each mattress keeps our bodies lifted and spines in alignment, we lie on each bed in the three primary sleep positions (side, stomach, and back.)
Because the Nectar is firmer and includes an 8-inch thick stability layer, the Nectar got a perfect score in this category. This base layer prevents you from sinking too far into the bed and keeps the spine aligned, especially when back or stomach sleeping.
The TEMPUR-Cloud® was also supportive, but how supportive really depends on your body weight and sleep position. It was supportive for light and average-weight sleepers but not so much for heavyweight stomach sleepers.
Motion Isolation
- Nectar Mattress Motion Isolation Score: 5/5
- TEMPUR-Cloud® Motion Isolation Score: 5/5
For this motion isolation, we used a seismograph app to help us record how much movement is transferred from one side of the bed to the other when we move around the mattress. When a bed is good at preventing this motion, then it has good motion isolation. As you can see, both beds performed very well in this category, each getting a perfect score.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
- Nectar Mattress Cooling Score: 4/5
- TEMPUR-Cloud® Cooling Score: 3/5
To gauge a bed’s temperature, we use what’s called a “temperature gun,” which measures the mattress’s temperature before we lie on it, and then after lying on it for five and then 10 minutes. This lets us know how well the bed can stay cool with someone using it.
Usually, memory foam beds don’t excel in this category, since the material tends to trap heat. However, we found that the Nectar did a pretty good job, only raising 8 degrees throughout our testing.
The TEMPUR-Cloud® didn’t do quite so well, and we found that it trapped a considerable amount of heat. It’s not a good option for hot sleepers.
Bounce
- Nectar Mattress Bounce Score: 3.5/5
- TEMPUR-Cloud® Bounce Score: 1/5
We test a bed’s bounce by dropping a ball on it and checking to see how quickly the mattress springs back to its original shape; the faster it regains its shape, the better the bounce score.
The Nectar regained its shape relatively quickly for a memory foam bed. The TEMPUR-Cloud®, on the other hand, had hardly any bounce at all. This might be an issue for combination sleepers, those with mobility issues, or some sexually active couples who want a bit of bounce to help them reposition more easily.
Edge Support
- Nectar Mattress Edge Support Score: 5/5
- TEMPUR-Cloud® Edge Support Score: 4/5
Edge support measures how well the perimeter of the bed holds up when you either sit or lie on it. To test for this, we spend one minute lying at the edge and another minute sitting at the edge.
Both the Nectar and TEMPUR-Cloud® did well in this category, especially considering they’re both all-foam, bed-in-a-box mattresses, which can sometimes have poor edge support. The Nectar did slightly better than the TEMPUR-Cloud® here though, which may be due to the Nectar’s firmer overall structure.
Couples
- Nectar Mattress Couples Score: 4/5
- TEMPUR-Cloud® Couples Score: 3.5/5
For this category, we consider how well the beds perform in various other categories that we think make a great couples’ mattress: overall support, cooling, edge support, bounce, and motion isolation. The Nectar did just a little better in its couples rating because it has slightly better bounce and edge support, and it doesn’t trap nearly as much heat.

Nectar vs. Tempur-Pedic FAQs
Is Nectar owned by Tempur-Pedic?
No, Nectar is owned by Ashley Home, an affiliate of Ashley Global Retail. Ashley Home purchase the previous owner of Nectar mattress, Resident, in the fall of 2024.
Does a Nectar mattress sag over time?
The reviews of Nectar mattresses are overwhelmingly positive, and not many people complain about sagging. This bed should last about seven to 10 years, which is standard for a quality memory foam bed. In fact, our Senior Editor, Jill, has a Nectar mattress and hasn’t noticed any premature sagging or dents in the three years she’s had it.
What is comparable to a Nectar mattress?
One mattress that is similar to the Nectar is the Bear Original. It’s also an all-foam, relatively firm bed with a simple design and a similar price point. You can see how these two compare in our Nectar vs. Bear Mattress Comparison.
What are the disadvantages of a Tempur-Pedic mattress?
When people imagine “memory foam,” they’re usually thinking of something like the Tempur-Pedic. These beds have that classic, slow sinking, deeply contouring foam. This can be great, but if you don’t love this particular feeling, you won’t love a Tempur-Pedic.
This memory foam also has the disadvantage of absorbing heat. This means most Tempur-Pedic beds aren’t the best choice for hot sleepers unless you want to spring for one of their ProBreeze® or LuxeBreeze® beds, which got perfect scores from us in cooling.
Our Final Thoughts on Nectar vs. Tempur-Pedic
Nectar and Tempur-Pedic are two brands that deliver great memory foam mattresses. While Nectar skews toward more budget-friendly beds, Tempur-Pedic provides luxury mattresses to consumers.
In the case of the Nectar vs. TEMPUR-Cloud®, the Nectar is firmer, making it a better option for stomach and back sleepers. Of these two, side sleepers will likely enjoy the softer and more contouring TEMPUR-Cloud® more. Neither mattress is a great option for heavyweight sleepers, who would benefit from more support.
We love the Nectar for couples since it’s more cooling and slightly bouncier while still maintaining excellent motion isolation. We also love Nectar’s policies: a Forever warranty and year-long sleep trial, compared to Tempur-Pedic’s 10-year limited warranty and 90-night trial.
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
We employed hands-on and data-driven tests to gauge how well the Nectar and TEMPUR-Cloud® performed in categories like support, pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, and many more. We also sought feedback from testers of different body types to see how these beds can perform for all kinds of sleepers. We then took this information to rate the mattresses in different performance categories.
