There are completely misguided and unnecessary product updates (looking at you, “New Coke”) and others that show a company is in tune with its audience. Nectar’s recent Premier Memory Foam mattress update is decidedly in the latter category.
Although memory foam isn’t typically my first choice for beds, this bed made me a believer. Its cooling, motion isolation, pressure relief, and support blew me away. After putting this bed through a series of tests, I think this quality-made, reasonably-priced bed will make many people happy.

- Those looking for soft slumber – Although the Nectar Premier should offer fantastic contouring for many sleepers, it is probably not for people looking for a truly soft bed.

Testing The Nectar Premier Mattress
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
At Sleep Advisor, we believe that mattress testing should combine quantitative data with educated hands-on evaluations. So, when I was testing the Nectar Premier, I used equipment such as a pressure map, temperature gun, and seismograph app to collect data. I also dropped a medicine ball and jumped on the bed to see how much bounce it provided.
I spent time on my back, side, and stomach to showcase how it felt in different sleep positions. This also allowed me to gauge how this mattress performed in the categories of bounce, edge support, overall support, and pressure relief.
Some of my hands-on evaluations may be affected by body type. I am average weight, meaning I weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. Those who are lighter than me may think that this bed is firmer than I do, and those who weigh more than 230 pounds may not feel that the Nectar Premier is as supportive as I do.

Firmness Scale: 6.5/10
The Nectar Premier is medium-firm, earning it a 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. Although it was slightly firmer than other memory foam mattresses, the first layer of therapeutic foam provides comfortable contouring that should make this bed appealing to a variety of people.
How Does the Nectar Premier Feel?
When I first touched this mattress, I was immediately taken by how cool and comforting the cover felt. It made me briefly contemplate the necessity of a fitted sheet. After settling in, I noticed that the cover felt slick. However, this wasn’t much of an issue because the foam started contouring around my body, and as my colleague, Corey Bryan, said, “This bed holds on to you.”

Pressure Relief

The Nectar eased my pressure and made me want to melt into it. The upper layers consisted of contouring foam that hugged my body, while the denser lower layers kept my spine aligned. It was like a championship tag team that made me feel fantastic on my back and stomach. Given that it is slightly firmer, I was somewhat surprised by how good it felt when I was on my side.
The pressure map readings confirmed that I felt little to no pressure. When a mattress provides excellent pressure relief, the reading shows mainly blue and green, but when there is a lot of pressure buildup, it will be indicated in lots of yellow and red. As you can see from the pressure relief map pictures, there’s mostly blue and green, which easily earned it a 5 out of 5 in this category.
Is the Nectar Premier Good for Pain Relief?
Yes, I think the contouring yet supportive foam makes the Nectar Premier a great pain-relieving tool.

If the Nectar Premier were part of your friend group, it would be the one who always showed up and cheered for you. While testing this bed, I loved how the top layer of foam wrapped me in a warm embrace while the hearty base layer of dense foam kept me elevated. I tested back, side, and stomach sleeping by spending time on the mattress in these positions. My spine felt aligned in all positions, and I was particularly fond of how my hips and lower back felt when I was on my stomach. Since I felt solidly supported in every way, the Nectar Premiered earned a 5 out of 5 for support.
Motion Isolation

My husband’s nocturnal restlessness can best be compared to a runaway wrecking ball, and because of this, motion isolation is near and dear to me. After testing this bed, I don’t think that even my tornado-like partner would wake me as I felt nothing – zip – nada. To test how the Nectar Premier performed with two people in the bed, Corey got on it after I was already lying on it to replicate your partner coming to bed after you. He then sat on the side and moved and bounced around. We were both thrilled by the lack of motion transfer, with Corey saying, “You know a bed has primetime motion isolation when you can feel the movement die on the side it was created.”
The readings on the seismograph app further supported our evaluations, showing a steady, almost flat line. If, like me, you’re kept awake by a restless co-sleeper, the Nectar Premier earned a 5 out of 5 in motion isolation and will be a solid choice for you.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling

A longstanding complaint about memory foam beds is that they tend to make sleepers hot. Nectar’s updated Premier mattress addressed this problem, and based on my evaluations and the temperature gun readings, I think they did a swell job of making a memory foam mattress that keeps you cool during the night.
Nectar states that the Premier has more than 60 percent more cooling fibers than its Classic Memory Foam mattress. The breathable cover felt cool to the touch, and it remained comfortable as I lounged around on it.
I used a temperature gun to take an initial surface temperature, followed by one after laying on the bed for five minutes, and then a final one once I completed another five-minute stretch.
The temperature went up 8 degrees during the first five minutes and decreased by two degrees between the second and third readings. This was outstanding for a memory foam bed, earning it 4 out of 5 in temperature regulation.
Bounce

A bed’s bounce can help you change sleeping positions and prevent you from getting awkwardly stuck during sex. The slow-moving nature of memory foam doesn’t typically lend to excellent bounce, but some beds are better than others. So, I set about testing the Nectar Premier’s bounce by dropping a 10-pound medicine ball on it and then by summoning my inner child and jumping around. I also gauged my ease of movement when changing from one sleeping position to another.
While the medicine ball didn’t launch skyward, it did have a demure bounce back. When I jumped on it, I sank into the bed and had to engage my quad muscles to jump, but I was able to get a little air. However, I was impressed with how easy it was to move from one prone position to another. While the response was slower than most latex or innerspring beds, I didn’t feel as if I were fighting out of quicksand. I deducted 1.5 points, bringing the Premier’s bounce score to 3.5, because it could be hard for those with mobility issues to move around on and because it will likely make it hard to reposition during sex.
Edge Support

Few nocturnal events will raise your heart rate, such as the feeling of falling off the edge of the bed. Beds with secure perimeters can prevent these cliffhanger jolts and help you get in and out of bed more easily. Good edge support also allows couples to use the whole surface of the bed.
To test this feature, Corey and I took turns lying and sitting on the bed for a minute. We agreed that you felt Velcroed to the edge of the bed while lying on it, and neither of us was concerned about falling off. When we sat on it, we both noticed a decent amount of sinkage, which could make it harder to get in and out of bed, especially for those with mobility issues.
I felt secure when I bent over like I would if I were tying my shoes. Bending forward like that shifted the weight to my legs and prevented the bed from sinking as much as it did when I sat upright. I deducted a point for edge support because of the amount of sinkage when sitting, but I was still impressed with the overall edge support of the Premier.

Once you have narrowed down your mattress choice based on materials and performance, the extras that a bed or its manufacturer provides may sway your final decision. Nectar entices consumers with gold medal policies such as a 365-night sleep trial, a Forever warranty, and free shipping and returns. The company also offers white glove delivery for an additional charge.
The Nectar Premier includes durable handles that make the bed much easier to move than those without handles. I deducted a half point in this category because even though this bed has a removable cover, Nectar advises against removing it as this will void the warranty.

My favorite way to contact a company is through an online chat. Nectar has a stellar customer service chat manned by real people. The Nectar reps are personable and knowledgeable. Also, when I posed a question that the person I was corresponding with didn’t have an answer for, they promptly followed up with a superior who quickly sent me a lengthy email. Although the answer was detailed, it didn’t directly address my question. Rather, it seemed to talk all around the specific question I posed.
Nectar also encourages customers to contact them via phone and email, and I had a pleasant experience with both. However, because my question was not answered clearly, I deducted a point for customer service.
Performance for Couples

If you sleep in the same bed as someone else, you know that accommodating both people’s mattress wants and needs presents unique challenges. I highly recommend this bed for couples looking for a memory foam mattress. It has excellent motion isolation and gets high marks in edge support and cooling. Also, its medium-firm feel should make it appealing to many folks.
I deducted half a point because the lack of bounce isn’t conducive to sex, making it a drawback to sexually active couples. However, other than that, this bed has a high batting average for co-sleepers.

Construction: What’s Inside the Nectar Premier?
The Nectar Premier is 13 inches tall and is covered in a moisture-wicking, breathable synthetic fabric with an antimicrobial treatment that fights bacteria.
- Under the cover, you’ll find 2 inches of memory foam, which provides pressure relief and contouring.
- The second layer is 3 inches of responsive foam that promotes spinal alignment.
- The tallest layer comes next. This is where you’ll find an 8-inch section of motion-isolating conventional foam to aid overall body support.
- These foam layers sit atop the Shift-Resistant Lower Cover, which helps stabilize them.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Nectar ships the Premier to your home rolled up in a box. The unboxing is rather simple since all you have to do is place the box on your foundation of choice before removing all packaging.
Once you remove the packaging, the mattress will start to unroll and decompress, which may take a few hours. If you notice any off-gassing smells, though, you may want to give it another day or two for the odors to dissipate.

What is the difference between the Nectar Classic and Premier?
The Nectar Premier is an inch taller than the Classic. According to the company’s website, It has 60 percent more cooling capacity and twice as much pressure-relieving foam. The Premier is also more expensive than the Classic.
Is the Nectar Premier good for heavy people?
The Nectar Premier is a good choice for plus-sized back sleepers. However, those who sleep on their stomachs will likely push too far down in the mattress, causing pressure around their hips and poor spinal alignment. Likewise, heavyweight side sleepers will probably not receive the support needed to keep their shoulders and hips from sinking into the mattress.
What are the cons of a Nectar Premier mattress?
The Nectar Premier isn’t going to offer a lot of bounce. So, if you have mobility issues or are sexually active, this bed could make moving around on it an effort. Also, it is likely not supportive enough for heavyweight stomach and side sleepers, who will find that it doesn’t provide good spinal alignment for them.

My Verdict of the Nectar Premier
If you had asked me before I tested the Nectar Premier Memory Foam model if I’d ever pick a memory foam mattress over a hybrid mattress, my answer would have been an unequivocal no. My personal preferences and professional experience have skewed me towards hybrids, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Premier’s memory foam version.
This bed could be an excellent choice for many couples. Back sleepers should enjoy how the thick memory foam encompasses them and keeps their spine aligned. It also offers great cooling features for an all-foam mattress. If you’ve hesitated to try a memory foam bed, I think this one will make you a believer — it did for me. The Nectar Premier received a final score of 4.4 out of 5.
