Leesa makes quality beds that start with the brand’s entry-level Leesa Original and climb into more premium buys like its younger, cooler sibling, the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid. Naturally, with “Chill” in its name, we can easily assume the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is specifically designed for hot sleepers, but is it ultimately worth the splurge over its more affordable counterpart, the Leesa Original?
Our team investigated the similarities and differences between these two popular Leesa models and how they each stack up in motion isolation, support, and of course, cooling. Wondering which Leesa bed is best for you? Here’s how to make the perfect choice.

Leesa Original vs. Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid: Firmness, Feel, and Construction
Firmness & Feel
Our firmness scale ranges from 1 to 10, with plush, cloud-like beds coming in at a 1 and the firmest beds you can imagine ranking at a 10. The Leesa Original has a standard medium-firm feel, while the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid has three firmness options (Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm). We tested the Medium-Firm variation, which is what we’re covering in this comparison.
Mattress | Sleep Advisor Firmness Rating | Feel | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|---|
Leesa Original | 6.5/10 | Medium-Firm | The Leesa Original is soft to the touch, but beneath the plush top layer are firmer layers of foam that help lift the lower back and hips into a neutral spinal alignment. |
Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid | 6/10 | Medium-Firm | Julia tested the Sapira Chill Hybrid, and she went back and forth with rating its firmness but ultimately decided it was a true medium-firm feel. The bed kept Julia lifted, but it was still soft enough for comfortable side sleeping without any pressure buildup. |
Mattress Construction
The Leesa Original and Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid are both made with breathable knit covers, but the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid’s cover incorporates more cooling materials to help regulate body temperature. Both beds also include memory foam layers, but that’s where the similarities end.
The Leesa Original is an all-foam bed, while the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is a hybrid bed that blends foam and supportive coils. The Leesa Original also has just four layers, while the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid has a more robust build with seven layers.

Leesa Original vs. Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid: Mattress Testing Performance
Pressure Relief
- Leesa Original Pressure Relief Score: 4.5/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Pressure Relief Score: 4/5
We use a handy pressure map that generates an image with different colors to pinpoint areas of pressure buildup. Our team tried the Leesa Original in all three primary sleeping positions (side, back, and stomach) and found the map was mostly blue and green, signaling low pressure.
As an average-weight sleeper, Julia found almost no pressure resting on the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid on her side and back, but our colleague, Loren, who is a lightweight sleeper, had slight pressure buildup around the hips and shoulders. For that reason, we ranked the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid lower.
Support
- Leesa Original Support Score: 4/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Support Score: 4.5/5
Support is how well a mattress keeps your spine lifted into its natural alignment. We found the Leesa Original plenty supportive for lightweight and average-weight side and back sleepers, but it caused some sinking into the bed for heavier stomach and back sleepers. The Leesa Spira Chill Hybrid felt more supportive overall, with only a slight dip around the stomach area.
Motion Isolation
- Leesa Original Motion Isolation Score: 4/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Motion Isolation Score: 4/5
Motion isolation is the ability of a mattress to prevent you from feeling movement on the other side of the bed. We had two testers lie on each mattress to determine if tossing and turning could be felt on the other side. Julia also utilized a seismograph app to pick up movement on the Sapira Chill Hybrid.
Both the Leesa Original and Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid had only slight motion transfer, making them equally suitable for the majority of couples who bed share.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
- Leesa Original Cooling Score: 4/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Cooling Score: 4/5
We track cooling capabilities with a thermal gun that measures the temperature of a mattress before, during, and after lying on it. To our surprise, the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid wasn’t as cool as we’d imagined.
While Julia didn’t overheat during her cooling test, she didn’t feel very chill, either. In fact, the Leesa Original’s cooling capabilities were right on par with its fancier cousin, so if you’re purchasing the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid just for cooling, the extra investment may not be worth it.
Bounce
- Leesa Original Bounce Score: 4.5/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Bounce Score: 4/5
We drop a ball on each mattress to see how long it takes the bed to regain its original shape, which determines how responsive it is (or how easy it is to move around on top of the bed). Even though the Leesa Original is an all-foam bed, which isn’t known for having great bounce, it surprised us all by outperforming the (seemingly) bouncier Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid.
Edge Support
- Leesa Original Edge Support Score: 3.5/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Edge Support Score: 4/5
We determine edge support, or the strength of the perimeter of a bed, by laying and sitting on it for a minute each. With its contouring foam layers, there was some sinkage on the Leesa Original, but the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid had sturdier edge support thanks to its supportive coil system.
Couples
- Leesa Original Couples Score: 3.5/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Couples Score: 4/5
Our couples score is determined by factors that can contribute to comfort and better sleep for couples who sleep together, like cooling, motion isolation, and edge support. With its softer edges, we ranked the Leesa Original lower, which isn’t ideal if you like to spread out from your partner at night. Likewise, neither bed wowed us with cooling, which is important while bed-sharing since body temperature can make the bed feel warmer.
That said, the Sapira Chill Hybrid’s better performance in edge support makes it the clear winner here for co-sleepers.

Accessibility
- Leesa Original Accessibility Score: 3/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Accessibility Score: 4/5
Accessibility is how well a mattress stands out from its competitors. Overall, the Leesa Original doesn’t have any showstopping components that differ from similar beds on the market. The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid scored higher with its seven layers and zoned support, but we still docked a point for its disappointing cooling technology, especially given its “Chill” name.
Customer Service
- Leesa Original Customer Service Score: 4/5
- Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Customer Service Score: 4/5
Leesa offers a convenient chatbox that allows you to ask questions, but it partners with a third-party company for white glove delivery which can potentially cause a headache with scheduling. For that reason, we deducted points from what would otherwise be great customer service.

Our Final Thoughts on the Leesa Original vs. Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid might offer better support and pressure relief for different types of bodies and sleep styles, but it’s not worth purchasing over the entry-level Leesa Original just for its cooling capabilities. Both beds had mostly average cooling, but the Leesa Original surprisingly came out on top for bounce, making it a better choice for active or combination sleepers.
