Hush is a Canadian-based mattress company whose name evokes the peaceful silence that should fall over us when we drift off to sleep, and I find it very satisfying when a bed’s moniker alludes to sleep. However, I was curious to see if their mattresses lived up to their name. I had the opportunity to do just that when I tested out the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid.
Follow along in this review as I provide you with my findings from testing this mattress. After you’ve read this in-depth review, you should have a solid understanding of the Arctic Luxe Hybrid that can help you make an informed decision about it.

Watch My Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Video Review *Please note: This video says the Hush Arctic Luxe comes with a 1-year warranty. However, this bed comes with a 10-year warranty.
Who I Recommend The Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid For:
- People with back pain – If you experience back pain, this bed comes with a triple-zone coil system that should provide you with balanced support that may help alleviate some of your aches.
- Stomach sleepers – This mattress’ firmness level and support system should keep stomach sleepers’ hips elevated. This is important because it prevents an awkward and uncomfortable spinal alignment.
- Luxury shoppers on a budget – The Arctic Luxe has several high-end features, but the bed comes in at a fairly attainable price. Plus, this mattress ships to the U.S. for free, which will also offset some costs.
Who I Don’t Recommend Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid For:
- People who need sufficient pressure relief – This is a firm mattress and provides very little pressure relief. Due to the pressure placed on their hips and shoulders, side sleepers, in particular, may want to steer clear of this mattress.
- Hot sleepers – This may be a little controversial for a mattress that has “Arctic” in its name, but I didn’t think that the cooling was up to par. Check out our list of cooling mattresses we recommend.
- Fans of a traditional memory foam feel – Although this mattress uses memory foam, it doesn’t offer much of the body contouring that memory foam mattress normally provides.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 7/10 (Firm)
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
Sleep Advisor ranks mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being like you’re sleeping on the floor. I was a little surprised by how firm this mattress felt. I was expecting the pillow top to be a little more plush than it was, but this mattress has a truly firm feel.
Lying down on it, I thought it felt balanced and supportive, and it didn’t provide much give at all. As such, I don’t think that this would be a great option for lightweight sleepers or those who need a lot of pressure relief.
How Does It Feel?
When you sit your hand on top of the cooling cover, it feels silky and cool. I loved that it didn’t have the sticky feeling that you sometimes get with cooling mattresses. Upon lying on it, I was somewhat struck by how hard this mattress was, especially considering that it has a pillow top. However, I was a fan of how supported I felt on this bed.
What I Like About the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid
- The price – The price of this mattress puts it on the affordable side for beds with more luxurious features.
- Provides midsection support – Keeping your midsection elevated is important, especially for stomach sleepers. The Arctic Luxe Hybrid’s support system does a great job of not allowing the midsection to sink.
- It has handles – The mattress handles made it very easy to move and maneuver.
My Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Complaints
- Lack of pressure relief – If you’re looking for a mattress that will help alleviate and prevent aches and pains from pressure, Hush’s firm offering is probably not your best bet. Check out our list of best mattresses for pressure relief.
- Cooling capabilities – This mattress puts “Arctic” in its name, but it’s a little deceiving from the temperature testing I performed. This mattress is cool to the touch but took 17 minutes to regulate the temperature after I was on it for five minutes.
- Motion isolation claims – Although this bed has great motion isolation, it does not live up to its claim of “no motion transfer.”
Testing the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress: How it Performed
When you’re the lead reviewer for Sleep Advisor, one of the perks of the job is testing out mattresses. I use my knowledge and combine it with first-hand experience to provide our readers with a detailed breakdown of how well it performs when testing for features such as responsiveness, cooling, and motion isolation, among others.
I often implement pressure mapping and seismograph testing to present illustrated findings. Additionally, I cut a section of the Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress’s outer side cover away to show you the exact materials that this bed is made of (please don’t try this at home or it will void your warranty).

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The Hush website states that the Arctic Luxe Hybrid can support 600 pounds for years.
[table id=1284 /]
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The firmness of this mattress will likely cause major pressure buildup around the shoulders and knees for lightweight side sleepers.
- Average Weight Sleepers – I appreciated how well my spine was aligned when I was testing this on my back, but felt very little pressure relief and I just didn’t find it to be an inviting sleep surface for side sleeping.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Our heavyweight tester pushed through the layers as I expected he would. He reported that his spine felt aligned.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – A lightweight back sleeper who tested this mattress felt as if she was always resting on the top of the mattress, and she experienced very little, if any, contouring or cushioning.
- Average Weight Sleepers – My back felt elevated when I tested out the Arctic Luxe Hybrid. There was some very slight contouring around my hips as they sunk just a little.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – This position was a favorite of our heavyweight tester. He stated that his spine felt aligned and overall this mattress just felt good for him when he was on his back.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Although our lightweight tester didn’t experience a lot of pressure relief around her hips, she did find that this mattress kept her midsection from sagging and her spinal alignment was comfortable.
- Average Weight Sleepers – As a stomach sleeper, this mattress checks all the boxes for this sleep position. My hips were kept elevated to prevent my spine from being subjected to painful positions.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – This mattress felt good on our heavyweight tester’s stomach, but he reported that his hips sunk into the mattress more than he’d prefer.
Pressure Relief & Pain
Given the firmness of this mattress, it likely won’t provide much pressure relief for a lot of sleepers, especially those who weigh less and people who like to sleep on their sides.
However, I think it should be an excellent fit for average-weight stomach sleepers. The supportive coils should help keep their hips elevated and comfortable. This, in turn, will help keep their spines in a neutral position.
Is the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
If a mattress doesn’t provide enough relief around areas of the body that come into contact with it, pressure can build up and cause discomfort that may lead to consistent pain. A mattress that provides pressure relief and good spinal alignment can be an excellent way to prevent this from happening.
So, will the Arctic Luxe Hybrid prevent or alleviate pain? The answer is yes and no. When it comes to this bed, the answer to this question will be largely dependent on your body type and preferred sleep position.
Back Pain – This mattress has excellent support that helps keep the spine elevated and aligned. As such, there is little pressure around the lumbar region, which should provide back pain relief, especially if you primarily sleep on your back. Average-weight stomach sleepers with lower back pain should also find that their lower back is well-supported on this bed, which could help with alleviating pain.

Hip Pain – The Arctic Luxe hybrid doesn’t offer a lot of sinkage, which is good when it comes to keeping your hips elevated. This should provide relief to many stomach and back sleepers who have hip pain. However, side sleepers with hip pain will most likely find that this mattress is too firm against their hips.
Shoulder Pain – Side sleepers who put a lot of their weight on their shoulders will probably want to avoid this mattress. If this area already hurts, sleeping on a mattress that won’t provide much relief is not ideal. Those who sleep on their back or stomach should find that this hybrid does a good job of alleviating pain.

Support
The Arctic Luxe Hybrid shines when it comes to support. It uses 8-inch steel triple-zoned pocket coils to form a solid base. These coils are individually wrapped, allowing them to react independently of other nearby coils.
As an added feature, the coils are encased in a firm foam that helps boost edge support. This is particularly beneficial for couples who may want to utilize the whole bed. Solid edge support can also assist those with mobility issues.
Motion Isolation
I have a slight gripe in this category because Hush claims that this bed has zero motion transfer, and while it is minimal, there is some. Frankly, you’re going to feel some movement with all mattresses, but some, such as the Arctic Luxe, do a better job of absorbing it so that your partner isn’t disturbed by it.
We used a seismograph app to test the motion of this mattress and although it was slight, movement was detected. However, overall, this mattress should do a great job of preventing motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
If Arctic is in the name, I expect a cooling mattress, and there is a cooling cover on this bed that is cool to the touch. However, I found that it was not a sustained cooling.
I used a temperature gun to test how long it would take this bed to regulate back to its original temperature of 68 degrees after I laid on it. I spent around five minutes on this bed, and it then took 17 minutes for it to reset to its original temperature. If you get out of bed but then get back in in less than 17 minutes, it is likely going to be warm.
Bounce
Beds with good bounce allow you to reposition without feeling stuck. The foam used in the Arctic Luxe does a good job of quickly responding, but there wasn’t as much bounce as I was expecting from a bed with a lot of coils.
Considering that there isn’t much sinkage because of the firmness, I didn’t feel stuck, However, I did feel like it was easiest to just stay put on this bed. All in all, I think that the bounce should serve combo sleepers and sexually-active couples well.
Edge Support
If a bed has good edge support, it means that the perimeter of the bed can hold your weight along with the more central areas. This allows sleepers to utilize the entire surface area of the bed, and it can help those with mobility issues get in and out of bed more easily.
The pillow top on this bed squishes in a good bit when you’re sitting on the side, but you don’t get the sensation that you’re going to fall off. When you’re lying close to the edge of this bed, you should feel completely secure.
Performance for Couples
Co-sleeping with another person is often about compromise and finding a mattress that you can both agree on. Many times, this will come in the way of a bed that falls in the middle of the firmness scale.
The Arctic Luxe Hybrid is definitely on the firmer side. Therefore, for this bed to work for a couple, they will need to both like and benefit from a firm mattress. If you do decide that this is the right bed for you and your mate, I think that you’ll be happy with its bounce and edge support.

Preference-based Features
Adjustable Base Compatible
According to Hush, this mattress can be used with platform beds, slatted foundations, box foundations, and adjustable bases. Check out our best adjustable base list to customize your sleep.
Antibacterial Cover
The cover on this bed is not only cool to the touch but also has a CertiPUR-US®-certified antibacterial cover. It is also made with a phase change material that wicks moisture away and helps regulate temperature.
Mattress Handles
This may seem like a small deal for some, but I think it provides a major convenience. It is extremely handy to be able to grab the handles and move or reposition the bed.
Construction: What’s Inside the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid?
As a hybrid, Hush’s Arctic Luxe bed is built with a combination of foam and coils that should be ideal for those struggling to choose between a more standard innerspring bed and an all-foam model. In total, the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid stands 13 inches high, and while it’s not the tallest bed out there, you’ll definitely get some height from this bed.
- The pillow top has a cooling cover that’s also antimicrobial, it feels silky and cool to the touch, without the sticky feeling you sometimes get with cooling mattresses.
- Next are two more cooling foam layers designed to react to your body’s shape and movements. This upper comfort layer has three built-in cooling layers that use phase change material, visco gel memory foam, and naturally-cooling graphite.
- Moving further down, there is another memory foam layer that keeps the upper foam layers from being scratched by the coils beneath it. This layer will also provide extra support.
- At the base, you’ll find 8-inch individually-wrapped coils. When coils are wrapped individually, it usually indicates that the mattress is designed for targeted support because each coil can react independently of the ones around it based on how much weight is applied. Another plus to these coils is that they’ll help isolate motion better than traditional interconnected ones. For co-sleepers sharing a bed, this could be very useful.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Beds that are constructed of foam and packaged in a box will often put off a slight chemical smell when they are unrolled. This is known as off-gassing.
If you notice this after you remove your mattress from the box and plastic, don’t be alarmed. It should take a few hours for it to dissipate, but it may take up to three days. You can help alleviate the smell by placing the mattress in a well-ventilated area.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® Certified: The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

My Verdict
The Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid is a fairly firm mattress that provides substantial support via its layers of foam and individually-wrapped coils.
Although the name insinuates that this is a cooling mattress, I didn’t find that it provided sustained cooling. However, it was cool to the touch. I think this bed could be especially great for heavier back sleepers and average-weight stomach sleepers.
If you’re looking for a mattress on the firmer side that offers some luxury features and at an attainable price, you may want to consider this bed. Overall, the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid earned a 3.8 of 5 score.
