DreamCloud vs. Leesa Mattress Comparison for 2024

DreamCloud and Leesa are two established mattress brands offering beds with high-end features that don’t break the bank.

The DreamCloud Hybrid and Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid are two leading models from each company, both known for their solid pressure relief and support. While these mattresses may have similar looks with their structured pillow tops and hybrid builds, they differ in capabilities and features. We employed a number of hands-on tests to determine how each bed performs in different categories important for sleepers of all different needs.

DreamCloud vs. Leesa: How Are They Similar?

  • Mattress type – The DreamCloud Hybrid and Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid are both hybrid beds, meaning they combine foam and springs.
  • Pillow top – Both beds are constructed with a pillow top, which adds structure and dimension to the bed (as well as a soft and supportive top layer).
  • Memory foam – DreamCloud and Leesa are both made with contouring memory foam, which is great for pressure relief.

DreamCloud vs. Leesa: How Are They Different?

  • Height – The DreamCloud Hybrid stands at 12 inches tall, while the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is taller at 14 inches.
  • Firmness options – The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid has three firmness options. The DreamCloud Hybrid comes in a standard firm build.
  • Zoned support – The Leesa has zoned support, which means it has firmer and softer sections of the bed for more targeted support. The DreamCloud doesn’t have this feature.

DreamCloud vs. Leesa: Firmness, Feel, and Construction

Firmness & Feel

We rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1-10. The plushest, softest bed you can imagine will be a 1, while the firmest, most rigid bed will be a 10. Most mattresses fall in the middle. Of the two, the DreamCloud was rated considerably firmer than the Leesa model.

MattressSleep Advisor Firmness RatingFeelTester Feedback
DreamCloud7.5/10FirmThe DreamCloud Hybrid has a sturdy build thanks to its firm core interior. The combination of dense (or thicker) foam layers paired with a supportive spring system gives this bed a firmer-than-average feel.

Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid6/10Medium-FirmThe Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid comes in three firmness options: Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm. We tested the Medium-Firm model, which is the most crowd-pleasing for different types of sleepers. It was a true medium-firm, keeping our low back and hips lifted, but still soft enough for pressure-free side sleeping.

Mattress Construction

The DreamCloud Hybrid and Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid have many similarities, including their hybrid builds. Both beds include a structured pillow top and breathable cover, as well as contouring memory foam that helps provide pressure relief.

However, they have a few key differences. The Leesa has zoned support ( a firmer center-third of the bed to lift the lower back and hips), while the DreamCloud doesn’t have this feature. The Leesa is also taller at 14 inches, compared to the DreamCloud’s more moderate 12-inch profile.

DreamCloud vs. Leesa: Mattress Testing Performance

      Pressure Relief

      • DreamCloud Mattress Pressure Relief Score: 4.5/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Pressure Relief Score: 4/5

We use a pressure map to generate a heat that pinpoints any pressure buildup using different colors for back and side sleeping since these positions rely on pressure relief the most. The best pressure map readings have mostly blue and green rather than lots of red and yellow since this means there’s more pressure buildup.

Sosha’s pressure map results for the DreamCloud

As an average-weight sleeper, I found the DreamCloud offered great pressure relief for side and back sleeping, but I deducted a half-point because it may not perform as well for lighter or heavier sleepers. My colleagues also noted good pressure relief in the Leesa, but Loren, a lightweight sleeper from our team, experienced slight pressure buildup along the hips and shoulders.

      Support

      • DreamCloud Mattress Support Score: 4.5/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Support Score: 4.5/5

The DreamCloud and Leesa were dead-on even in support, which how well a bed keeps our spines in a natural S-curve. This feature is vital in a mattress because it can help prevent back pain or discomfort. Both beds had a slight dip in the stomach while stomach sleeping, which is why we deducted a half-point from their scores.

      Motion Isolation

      • DreamCloud Mattress Motion Isolation Score: 5/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Motion Isolation Score: 4/5

We test motion isolation by using a seismograph app to measure movement transfer while our fellow testers move around on the bed. If you sleep beside someone, this feature is especially helpful so you’re not awakened by their tossing and turning.

Seismograph test results for the DreamCloud, which helped it earn a 5 out of 5 for motion isolation.

The DreamCloud had virtually perfect motion isolation that neither our seismograph app nor I noticed, while the Leesa performed slightly lower with a little bit of motion transfer, but not enough to disrupt most bed-sharing couples.

      Temperature Regulation / Cooling

      • DreamCloud Mattress Cooling Score: 4/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Cooling Score: 4/5

We use a temperature gun to measure the temperature of a bed before lying on it, and then after spending five and 10 minutes on it. This Leesa model is marketed as a cooling bed, and we rated it equally to the DreamCloud. While neither bed was necessarily cool to the touch, we also didn’t find ourselves overheating.

      Bounce

      • DreamCloud Mattress Bounce Score: 5/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Bounce Score: 4/5

We drop heavy balls on a mattress to gauge bounce, or how quickly a bed regains its original shape. This determines how easy it is to move around on top of the bed and is often most helpful to combo sleepers, those with limited mobility, and sexually active couples. The foam and coils on both beds bounced back quickly, but we felt the Leesa took a little more effort to move around on, which is why we rated it lower.

      Edge Support

      • DreamCloud Mattress Edge Support Score: 4.5/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Edge Support Score: 4/5

Edge support refers to the sturdiness of the perimeter of a bed, which we test by lying and sitting on it for a minute. Edge support is important for couples so that they have more surface space and people with mobility issues who have a harder time getting in and out of bed. Both beds had slight give, but the Leesa sank a little more than the DreamCloud because of its softer top layer.

      Couples

      • DreamCloud Mattress Couples Score: 4.5/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Couples Score: 4/5

We dole out our couples score based on features that will make bed-sharing easier and more comfortable, like good overall support, cooling, motion isolation, edge support, and bounce. Both beds are great for couples, but the DreamCloud took the win with its stronger edge support and bounce. That said, the Leesa has a more adaptable medium-firm feel that might appeal to couples who want a bed not quite as firm as the DreamCloud.

      Accessibility

      • DreamCloud Mattress Accessibility Score: 4.5/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Accessibility Score: 4/5

Accessibility refers to features that make a mattress stand out from competitors. We gave the DreamCloud a higher score because it’s built with sturdy, comfortable handles that make it easier to move the mattress. The DreamCloud website also has a “compare” page where you can see how DreamCloud beds stack up to other mattresses on the market.

Its heavier weight is why we didn’t give the DreamCloud a perfect score, and likewise, we docked a point from the Leesa because of its average cooling capabilities that didn’t live up to its “Chill” name.

      Customer Service

      • DreamCloud Mattress Customer Service Score: 4/5
      • Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Customer Service Score: 4/5

We reach out to each brand’s customer service to determine helpfulness and ease of use. DreamCloud customer service was quick to respond via live chat, phone, and email, but the website required a lot of scrolling and navigation that led us to dock a point. Leesa offers convenient customer service that’s easy to reach, but it partners with a third-party company for white glove delivery which may potentially cause a scheduling headache.

      DreamCloud vs. Leesa FAQs

      Did Nectar buy DreamCloud?

Nectar and DreamCloud are sister brands manufactured by Resident Home, which was recently acquired by Ashley Home.

Is the DreamCloud mattress too firm?

The DreamCloud may be too firm for side sleepers, but it offers excellent support for back sleepers and light and average-weight stomach sleepers who require a firmer bed.

Are Casper and Leesa the same?

Casper and Leesa are different brands, but they’re both popular in the mattress space and make a combination of foam and hybrid mattresses.

Our Final Thoughts on DreamCloud vs. Leesa

With DreamCloud beds, the upside is that you get a longer trial and warranty deal, but don’t discount Leesa since their consumer deals are still industry standard.

As far as these specific beds we’ve compared, you’ll get a great deal on the DreamCloud Original Hybrid or Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid, which both have high-end features at affordable price points. Their structured pillow tops and contouring memory foam layers give these beds a hotel-like quality, but they ultimately differ in motion isolation and bounce. The DreamCloud will likely offer the most restful and undisturbed sleep for couples, while the Leesa is a supportive and pressure-relieving choice for the majority of side sleepers.

      Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

I tested the DreamCloud, while my colleagues Spencer, Loren, and Julia tested the Leesa. We checked each mattress for comfort, support, and firmness, as well as employed a number of tests to determine how well a mattress performs beneath the cover. This includes using a thermal gun to measure cooling, a seismograph app to track movement, and a pressure map to pinpoint pressure buildup. We used these tests and a specific scoring methodology to rate the beds in each performance category.
