My fellow Lead Product Tester, Julia, and I have conducted hands-on tests for nearly six dozen mattresses. The vast majority of these beds are made in the USA. Considering this can be an important component for many consumers, I have assembled a comprehensive list of the best made-in-the-USA beds that Julia and I tested. For a bed to earn this title, the bed must be manufactured in the United States, and most of the mattress’s materials must also be produced here.
I, along with other Sleep Advisor mattress testers, evaluate each mattress based on body types and sleep positions because no one-style-fits-all bed is available. We also examine cooling, firmness, motion isolation, bounce, and edge support to give you as much detailed information as possible so you can make a knowledgeable purchasing decision.
Check out my top choices and consider which will help you achieve your best rest.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
Sleep Advisor uses hands-on testing to bring you the most comprehensive mattress reviews. This gives us a genuine understanding of the feel and performance of each mattress.
For our Best Mattresses Made in the USA roundup, we focused on top-tier beds made in America. In addition to being produced in the U.S., we concentrated on those that used quality materials, had generous policies, and provided excellent comfort.
We also used factors such as sleeping positions, body weight, cooling elements, motion isolation, pressure relief, and more to present you with a detailed list.
What We Look for in USA-Made Mattresses
Made in the USA
When you’re buying a mattress that says it’s made in the USA, it’s important to look for the specifics. Ideally, you want a company that manufactures their mattresses in the States and uses American-sourced materials.
In some cases, U.S.-based companies make their mattresses here but use materials sourced elsewhere (or at least some of them are). To make this list, the company should be based in the U.S., and the manufacturing process and/or materials should come from here.
Compatibility with Many Sleepers
We have many types of sleepers here in the States, so it’s important to find something that adapts to all of us. The most versatile mattresses typically have a medium to medium-firm feel, which generally tends to accommodate most people and sleep positions. We also like to include beds that have either all foam or a combination of foam and coils, since these can often work for more sleep styles.
Support
Good support is crucial for a good night’s sleep. We usually look for a firm base with either coils or high-density foam that prevents you from bottoming out.
Some beds have zoned support that holds the hips, knees, and shoulders in alignment, which is particularly good if you have back pain. Also, firmer beds tend to be better at supporting your body than softer ones that let you sink a bit more.

Why the Helix Midnight Luxe Earned Editor’s Pick
The Helix Midnight Luxe, with its zoned support, provides firm lifting for the midsection and a softer feel for lighter areas like the shoulders. The Midnight Luxe’s zoning also lends to spinal alignment and overall comfort.
I tested the Helix Midnight myself, and this made-in-the-USA mattress has superior temperature regulation, earning a 5 out of 5 rating in this category. This is excellent if you often overheat at night or sleep beside someone since the extra body heat can accumulate.
This mattress’s balanced feel and versatility, combined with how well it tested in many categories, is why it is our Editor’s Pick.

Why the WinkBed Earned Best Mattress Made in the USA for Couples
Couples have to share their sleeping space. For this reason, there are certain mattress features that may be more important to bedmates than they are solo sleepers. The WinkBed earned the Best Mattress Made in the USA for Couples spot due to its outstanding performance in many categories important to co-sleepers.
I loved its incredible edge support, allowing couples to utilize the entire surface without fearing falling off the side or gravitating to the middle. The dense foam layers also provide excellent motion isolation. Those with restless partners are likely to sleep undisturbed because this mattress can absorb motion before it travels to the other side of the bed. The WinkBed’s coils also provide some bounce, and this feature can be beneficial for sexually active couples.

Why the Nolah Evolution Earned Best Mattress Made in the USA for Back Pain
People with back pain can have difficulty getting a good night’s sleep without the right kind of mattress. We think the Nolah Evolution can be great for back pain because it has 8-inch HDMax™ Tri-Zone ™ coils that Nolah states provide 25 percent more support than traditional springs. Stuart, our tester for this mattress, noticed these supportive coils during his hands-on testing. “I could even feel the zoned support in the springs working to support my body weight appropriately.”
We also love that the Nolah Evolution comes in multiple firmness levels, including Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm. This means sleepers with back pain can find a feel that’s even more tailored to their body type and sleep position for enhanced overall comfort.

Why the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid Earned Best Mattress Made in the USA for Side Sleepers
The Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid is a mattress that we recommend to side sleepers because the top layer wraps people in a deep hug, as noted by our other lead tester, Julia, who tried out this bed first-hand.
As sleepers settle into this mattress, they should notice the comfort layer contouring around their body and relieving pressure.
Although this Medium-Firm model could be suitable for back sleepers as well, Julia noticed that it felt quite plush and cozy while on her side. Side sleepers are more susceptible to pressure buildup around their hips and shoulders, and this mattress’s contouring can certainly help with that.

Why the Titan Plus Earned Best Mattress Made in the USA for Heavy People
The Titan Plus is Brooklyn Bedding’s response to the call for a top-tier mattress specifically for heavyweight sleepers. Using a hybrid design that incorporates enhanced support, targeted pressure relief, and long-lasting materials, the Titan Plus is a great find for larger sleepers.
Additionally, this bed does an excellent job of regulating temperature by incorporating cooling properties into the construction. We also love that Brooklyn Bedding makes the Titan Plus with top-notch materials and detailed craftsmanship, it’s still reasonably priced. Brooklyn Bedding prides itself on its American-made products that ship directly to consumers from its Arizona factory.

Why the Plank Firm Earned Best Firm Mattress Made in the USA
As its name implies, the Plank Firm by Brooklyn Bedding specializes in a firmer mattress design. This model is also a flippable mattress that gives you two firmness options in one.
One side of the mattress is firm, but if you desire an even firmer bed, you can flip it to the ultra-firm side. Although both sides are firm, the feel will change slightly depending on your chosen firmness level. The Ultra-Firm side will likely make you feel you’re floating right above the bed, while the Firm side will contour to your body while maintaining excellent spinal alignment.

Why the Birch Luxe Earned Best Eco-Friendly Mattress Made in the USA
If you’re looking for an environmentally friendly American-made mattress, the Birch Luxe could be your new favorite find.

Combining organic wool, cotton, and latex with premium cashmere and reinforced coils, the Birch Luxe offers sleepers an opulent experience that is also good for the planet.

What Does It Mean If a Mattress Is Made in the USA?
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a product that states it is made in the USA requires that “all or virtually all” of the product be made in the United States.1 The FTC adds that all of the significant parts, processing, and labor must originate in the U.S.
What to Look for in a Mattress Made in the USA
Along with verifying that the product is, in fact, American-made, there are other important mattress qualities you’ll want to consider. This includes everything from the type of mattress to the unique features that can enhance your experience for better rest.
Made in the USA
People looking for the highest-quality mattresses usually prefer USA-made beds due to the high standards. In the United States, we have some of the highest safety and health standards for these products and the materials that go into them. When you buy a bed made in the States, you’re buying one that’s been through rigorous testing to ensure maximum quality and safety against potential health and fire hazards. Plus, many folks like to support more local businesses when they shop.
Compatibility
When companies are designing their beds, they want to make them as compatible for many different people as possible. Another reason compatibility is important? Couples!
A versatile mattress has a better shot of working for both partners, and we all know that when one of us isn’t comfortable, that means there’s probably going to be lots of tossing and turning, which could eventually wake you up as well, no matter the motion isolation. Plus, even if they don’t wake you up, you want them to sleep well, don’t you?
Support
Support is among the first things you should look for in a mattress because it supports a healthy posture and better sleep. Good support comes from the materials and construction of the bed. The materials should be strong and dense so they keep you lifted and don’t develop a dent fairly quickly. Bonus points if you get a mattress with zoned support that holds your heavier parts, like hips, better.
Support is an important part of our testing process, and when we evaluate a bed for this, we are looking at how supported we feel in each sleeping position (side, back, and stomach). If we notice too much sinking, that tells us overall support is lacking.
Type of Mattress
Innerspring Mattresses
Innerspring mattresses have been around for the longest and are typically thought of as a traditional bed. Although memory foam and hybrid mattresses have exploded in popularity recently, innerspring mattresses can offer attractive features and durable construction.
Innerspring mattresses are usually one of the more breathable options; the coils allow airflow, which prevents heat from building up throughout the night. Those who sleep on innerspring mattresses also typically enjoy solid edge support and bounce. Additionally, traditional coil beds are known for their affordability.
Hybrid Mattresses
Hybrid mattresses combine features and materials from all-foam and innerspring beds. This versatility makes them a solid choice for sleepers. The construction of hybrid mattresses typically consists of top layers made of memory foam followed by innerspring coils underneath. The memory foam provides contouring and pressure relief, while the coils give support and stability.
However, within the basic construction of the hybrid design, there is plenty of room for variations. Some manufacturers replace memory foam with latex or proprietary foam materials at the top, while others include foam under the coils.
Memory Foam Mattresses
Memory foam mattresses are popular because of their convenience and comfort.
Memory foam beds are often less costly than hybrids, and they are often excellent at gently contouring the body and relieving pressure around the shoulders, lower back, and hips.
One of the drawbacks of memory foam is that it can be sweltering in its original state. Manufacturers noted this and changed the structure by adding cooling gels, copper, or graphite into the foam. Memory foam beds can also utilize open-cell construction, allowing air to flow freely through the foam.
Latex Mattresses
Latex is a naturally cooling and responsive material that provides sleepers excellent ease of movement, pressure relief, and support. These mattresses are typically made of Talalay or Dunlop latex, which refers to the manufacturing processes used to create the layers. Although similar, sleepers will likely notice a slightly different feel depending on the method used.
Latex mattresses are usually more expensive than other mattress types, but they are also one of the most environmentally friendly bed choices available. They are also highly durable and should make for a good investment.
Other Considerations When Shopping for a Mattress Made in the USA
Sleeping Position
Back, side, stomach, and combination sleepers all have different firmness, support, and pressure-relief needs, and to optimize their sleep experience, they will need a bed that complements these needs.
Back sleepers typically sleep best on medium-firm, supportive mattresses that offer good spinal alignment and relieve pressure around the lower back and shoulders. If you prefer to sleep on your stomach, you will likely want a mattress on the firmer side. Firm, supportive mattresses can help keep stomach sleepers’ hips from sagging too far into the bed, so they’re spine remains in a healthy alignment.
A soft to medium-firm mattress provides comfort and gentle contouring for side sleepers who bear much of their weight on the shoulders and hips. However, these folks will also want to ensure their mattress is supportive enough for their spine.
Sleepers who change positions throughout the night need a versatile and responsive mattress. These sleepers are often most comfortable on a bed with middle-of-the-road firmness that’s easy to change positions on.
Weight/Body Type of Sleepers
A sleeper’s weight and body type are important because these can influence how a bed feels. For example, the type of mattress that works best for a heavyweight sleeper is usually less conducive to those with lighter or average builds.
Lightweight sleepers are likely to rest comfortably on plush beds that allow them to sink into them a bit. Soft beds can also provide these sleepers with pressure relief that they aren’t likely to get on a firm mattress.
If you fall in the middle of the scale, you’ll want to look for a mattress that lands around the halfway point of firmness. Medium-firm beds should provide these sleepers with a solid mix of support and comfort.
Those weighing over 230 pounds will likely want a firmer mattress made from durable, highly supportive materials. This is because heavier people can push through softer layers too quickly, causing poor spine alignment and pressure buildup.
Firmness
Our team rates mattress firmness on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the absolute firmest feel.
Although how soft or hard you like your mattress is a personal preference, different firmness levels are more conducive to various sleep positions and body types.
Many people, especially co-sleepers, may be drawn to a medium-firm bed because of their versatility. These mattresses often provide a mixture of spinal support and pressure relief.
However, if you are on the heavier side, you will likely need a firmer mattress to achieve an adequate amount of support. Conversely, lightweight sleepers often find the most comfort on softer mattresses that contour their curves and take pressure off their smaller frames.
Are you interested in more details? Check out our Mattress Firmness Guide.
Cooling
For many, staying cool through the night is a cornerstone of quality sleep. If this is important to you, it is good to remember that some mattress types have better cooling properties than others.
Memory foam mattresses tend to be warmer because the foam is dense and doesn’t allow for airflow. However, many manufacturers now include gel infusions or other cooling technologies to prevent heat buildup.
The coils in traditional innerspring and hybrid mattresses allow air to circulate easily, and as such, these beds typically have excellent temperature regulation. Latex beds are also a great choice if you want a cooling bed. Latex, made from the sap of rubber trees, has an open cell structure that allows for plentiful airflow.
Check out our Thermoregulation Guide and Best Cooling Mattress for more information on this topic.
Motion Isolation
How well a mattress isolates motion is usually important for those who share a bed with a partner or pet. A restless bedmate can disturb a light sleeper if their bed transfers this motion from one side to the other.
Memory foam mattresses are often recommended for couples because of their strong motion-isolating capabilities. However, many hybrid mattresses can do a good job at this, too, because they have foam layers to absorb movement, along with pocketed coils instead of interconnected ones.
Sex
Sexually active people often prefer responsive or bouncy beds because these features can help prevent couples from feeling stuck and allow them to move around more easily. Innerspring and hybrid mattresses tend to have plenty of bounce, and latex is a very responsive material.
Memory foam, on the other hand, is more slow-moving, so it’s not necessarily ideal in this case. If you really want a bed with memory foam, though, a hybrid with this material can be a great compromise since you’ll also have coils for some bounce.

A mattress that prevents pressure buildup around areas of the body that come into contact with it can help deliver a more comfortable sleeping experience. For many sleepers, a medium-firm bed should provide adequate support and pressure relief to sleep well throughout the night and wake without aches and pains.
However, those with smaller or larger body types may need to look for a bed with softer or firmer firmness levels to achieve the correct balance support and pressure relief. For instance, lighter people often need a softer mattress, which they can sink into to ensure they get enough contouring for pressure relief.

Edge Support
Edge support may seem inconsequential, but if your bed sags or sinks along the perimeter, it can make getting out of bed difficult. Also, it can prevent you from utilizing the entire sleeping surface because beds with poor edge support often mean that people gravitate toward the center of the bed.
Therefore, finding a mattress with good resistance along the edge can be especially helpful for couples and those with mobility issues. Innerspring and hybrid mattresses typically have excellent edge support, and many newer memory foam models have higher-density foam around the perimeter, providing additional weight resistance.
Budget
Setting a budget when you’re shopping for a mattress is essential. A new mattress can cost a lot of money, and you will likely have it for many years. Therefore, you want to get the best bed you can afford.
However, the most expensive mattress isn’t necessarily the best, and inexpensive choices don’t necessarily mean low quality. The mattress industry is competitive, and direct-to-consumer companies have made getting a high-quality American-made mattress more affordable than ever. Reasons to Buy a Mattress Made in the U.S.A.
Mattress Quality
Mattresses made in the U.S. must comply with quality control and manufacturing regulations set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.2 This means they are often made of better quality materials and will last longer than those made overseas.
In general, mattresses made in the U.S. must meet standards for flammability and cannot contain chemicals or toxins, including phthalates, formaldehyde, and CFCs.3 Many of these regulations are self-enforced though, so it’s up to the manufacturer to follow through.
The good news is that many mattresses come with third-party certifications to ensure the quality and safety of the materials. One of the most known certifications for mattress foams is CertiPUR-US®. If you’re buying a mattress containing standard polyurethane foam or memory foam, we recommend making sure those foams are CertiPUR-US® certified.
Environmental Impact
Mattress manufacturing can have a huge impact on the environment, so if you’re trying to live a greener and more sustainable lifestyle, don’t leave your mattress out of the equation. One reason, which we mentioned above, is that U.S. mattress manufacturing regulations require companies to avoid chemicals (like formaldehyde) that could be toxic to the environment and human health.
Additionally, many U.S.-based manufacturing plants create less pollution than factories that make mattresses in other countries. Shipping is another environmental factor that might encourage you to buy a mattress made in the States. Shipping a mattress overseas typically has a huge environmental impact, burning more fossil fuels and creating more pollution during shipment than a domestic-made mattress.
Some U.S.-based mattress chains, such as ZenHaven, Avocado, and Sleep On Latex even produce eco-friendly mattresses. These mattresses often substitute synthetic materials for more natural or organic ones.
Labor and Economic Conditions
U.S. labor laws are stricter than those in many foreign countries. Depending on where an overseas mattress is produced, workers may face poor working conditions that, in the U.S., would qualify as labor law violations.
Labor issues to think about are things like low pay and unsafe working conditions. There are labor standards and requirements in the U.S. that protect workers against unfair and unsafe conditions that aren’t always present or enforced in other countries.
When you buy a mattress made in the U.S., you’re supporting a local economy. This means more jobs for Americans and a percentage of your purchase price going back into manufacturing American-made goods.
Some U.S. brands even do charitable initiatives to support their local communities. For example, companies may donate a mattress to someone in need for every mattress sold, or they may offer discounts to certain groups, such as veterans, healthcare workers, or teachers.
Mattress Quality
Mattresses made in the United States can be more expensive than their foreign counterparts, leading many people to opt for the cheaper, overseas option. But a cheaper price might mean cheaper quality and flimsier regulations. Many foreign-made mattresses may not be produced to the same quality or comply with the same strict environmental and labor regulations as those produced in the U.S.
One area of cost where you’re likely to win with a domestically-made mattress is shipping. Remember that your shipping costs will most likely be lower when you purchase a mattress made here in the States because the product simply doesn’t need to travel as far.
