Avocado Recalls Over 55,000 Mattress Pads

Mattress and bedding brand Avocado is recalling roughly 55,000 of their mattress pads over fire hazard concerns. The specific products recalled are the brand’s Avocado Organic Cotton Mattress Pad Protectors.

According to a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the pads violate a “mandatory federal flammability regulation.” However, no injuries have been reported.

The recall was issued on August 1, 2024 and involves 55,480 pads in the following sizes:

  • Twin
  • Twin XL
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King

The pad protectors were sold between January 2019 and March 2024.

If you have one of these mattress pad protectors, you are advised to stop using it immediately and to contact Avocado to receive a free replacement, which also includes complementary shipping. In the U.S. CPSC report, it states that customers should cut their pad protector in half and write their initials and the date on the law label attached to the product. They can then upload photos of their cut pad protector to the recall page on Avocado’s website

On their recall page, Avocado states that the replacement product has been tested and meets the Code of Federal Regulations for mattresses and mattress pads and that the product has GOTS, Responsible Wool Standard, MADE SAFE, and GREENGUARD Gold certifications.
