Who Is the Nolah Adjustable Base Best for?

Pros: Who Might Like the Nolah Adjustable Base:

  • Sleepers who snore – This adjustable base has an anti-snore setting that lifts your midsection to help with your breathing and reduce snoring.
  • Those with back pain – If you experience back pain, the Nolah Adjustable Base has a “Zero G” setting that gently lifts your head and boosts your legs to take pressure off your back.
  • Warranty seekers – Many adjustable foundations don’t come with a warranty. However, Nolah provides a 10-year limited warranty for this base.

Cons: Who Might Not Like the Nolah Adjustable Base :

  • People who prefer preset buttons – Although the remote is fairly easy to use, there aren’t any preset buttons that offer specific angles or positions.
  • Fans of soothing massage – Nolah touts the massage setting as a big value add, but I found it rather jarring. The whole bed shook when I used it.
  • Those who live alone – This bed was easy to put together, but it is very heavy. You will need at least one other person to help you move and assemble it.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

Sleep Advisor takes a hands-on approach to testing. Members of our team and I unboxed and assembled this adjustable base. I then took notes on the frame and platform before putting a compatible mattress on it to test out the ease of use and various settings in order to bring you a comprehensive overview of the product.

What Is the Nolah Adjustable Base Made of?

Materials

The Nolah Adjustable Base consists of an upholstered platform that is supported by a solid metal frame with a reinforced steel undercarriage. It also has built-in nightlights underneath the platform.

Height

All sizes of the Nolah Adjustable Base feature adjustable legs with height options of 6, 9, and 12 inches. If you use the 12-inch option, the base’s platform will be 15 inches from the ground.

Sleeping on the Nolah Adjustable Base

The Nolah Adjustable Base felt sturdy once I assembled it. I liked that the adjustable legs made it a little more customizable, as I could position the base’s platform at different heights from the ground.

The remote was easy to use, and I appreciated that I didn’t notice the types of electronic beeps that are often associated with adjustable bases. I thought the wall-glide technology and the capability to pair this base with a home assistant such as Alexa or Google Home were standout features.

However, I was not a big fan of the massage setting, as it felt jarring and just seemed to vibrate the foundation and me.

My Performance Ratings for the Nolah Adjustable Bed

Support

3/5

With its metal frame and reinforced undercarriage, the Nolah Adjustable Base feels very sturdy. It can support up to 750 pounds, but that includes the mattress’s weight. When comparing Nolah’s weight capacity to other comparable bases, it isn’t quite up to par.

Durability

3/5

The metal Nolah Adjustable Base frame is reinforced with a heavy-duty undercarriage that feels solid. Given that it is made to hold 750 pounds, including the mattress, I don’t think it would be durable enough for a heavyweight couple. Also, I am a little concerned about the longevity of the fabric since the base that I received already had rips in the fabric and staples that were falling out.

Assembly

4/5

Assembling the Nolah Adjustable Base was a snap. It requires no tools, and I was able to put it together in less than 15 minutes. My only concern about the assembly is that the base is very heavy, and it takes at least one more person to help with the moving and unboxing, as well as holding it in place while the other person assembles it.

Noise

3/5

Typically, I find that adjustable bases have noticeable electronic noises, but this wasn’t the case with the Nolah. It did get a little noisy when in massage mode, but that is my only complaint when it comes to sounds.

Ease of Use

4/5

The wireless remote is extremely easy to use. The Nolah Adjustable Base also allows you to pair it with your Google Home or Alexa, but I don’t have either of those in the studio, so I couldn’t test that feature. I suspect that if you choose to use voice commands via your home assistant, it might require some technological savvy to pair it with your particular device.

Shipping

4/5

The Nolah Adjustable Base ships for free via FedEx.

Sleep Trial & Warranty

4/5

There is not a sleep trial with this base, but there is a 10-year limited warranty. The warranty is a big plus for me because most adjustable foundations come with neither a sleep trial nor a warranty.

Nolah Adjustable Base FAQs

Do you need a box spring with an adjustable base?

No, you do not need a box spring with an adjustable base, and you shouldn’t use one. Box springs are incompatible with adjustable bases — trying to use one might damage the box spring, the adjustable base, or both. The foundation of the adjustable base serves as the base for your mattress, so you do not need to buy a box spring if you are planning on using an adjustable base.

Can you use a headboard and footboard with an adjustable base?

Standard headboards and footboards can be used with most adjustable bases. Furthermore, many adjustable bases are designed to fit inside of an existing bed frame.

Can I put any mattress on an adjustable base?

Although many mattresses will work on adjustable bases, not all of them will. Generally, all-foam beds are great choices for adjustable bases, and most, if not all, of these beds should work. Many hybrid mattresses will also be compatible with an adjustable base, but innerspring mattresses typically are not.

My Final Thoughts on the Nolah Adjustable Base

The Nolah Adjustable Base is a sturdy, basic adjustable base that brings a good mix of high-tech features, such as smart assistant pairing, without overriding its ease of use. Plus, the assembly process was a breeze. These factors and more helped it earn an overall score of 3.6 out of 5.

With that being said, I thought that this Nolah base fell short with its massage setting, as it was not very soothing. I also found the rips in the upholstery and dislodged staples suggestive of possible quality control or durability issues.
