Who I’d Recommend the Casper Wave Hybrid For
- People with pressure buildup – The Wave Hybrid mattress has four foam layers located above the coil unit, providing excellent pressure relief for those who usually struggle with buildup. Plus, the first three layers are made from AirScape™ foam, known for its pressure-relieving properties. Check out our picks for the best mattress for hip pain.
- Combination sleepers – The Casper Wave Hybrid is a bouncy bed with coils that offer plenty of pushback support, making it easy to move around and switch positions.
- Co-sleepers – Although it has bounce, the Wave Hybrid also has four foam layers above the coils, which helps to isolate motion so that co-sleepers don’t feel disturbed if one person is tossing and turning.

Who I’d Recommend the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 For
- Side sleepers – Side sleepers should like the firmness and feel of the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress. This bed is on the softer side, so it offers excellent pressure relief and contouring for those who like sleeping on the side.
- Sexually-active couples – Sexually-active couples should like the bounce coming from the coils. This bed has a responsive feel, with coils offering plenty of pushback, which can be beneficial for late-night activities.
- Hot sleepers – This Purple bed has a breathable cover along with GelFlex Grid™ and coils, allowing plenty of airflow and breathability for hot sleepers.
Comparing Casper Wave Hybrid vs. Purple Hybrid Premier 3: Top Similarities
- The hybrid construction – Both Casper and Purple are hybrid mattresses with multiple foam layers and coils that add bounce, breathability, and support throughout the construction.
- Breathability and cooling – Being that they’re hybrids, these beds have good breathability and airflow. In addition, both models have several cooling features that help make the construction more suitable for those who sleep hot.
- The durability – Casper and Purple are reputable brands with a series of luxury mattresses, so their Wave Hybrid and Hybrid Premier 3 are no exception.
Comparing Casper Wave Hybrid vs. Purple Hybrid Premier 3: Key Differences
- The feel – The Purple mattress feels softer to the touch, whereas the Casper Wave Hybrid has a firmer feel. This is a slight difference, but it’s worth mentioning because side sleepers may prefer a soft feel, while back sleepers usually like a firmer bed.
- Zoned support – The Casper Wave Hybrid mattress has zoned gel pods that ensure maximum support and help with spine alignment in various sleeping positions. The Purple doesn’t have zoned support.
- The price – The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress is slightly more expensive than the Casper Wave Hybrid.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
We rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. This helps us explain the feel better, but also helps shoppers figure out if a mattress is a right fit for their needs. The Casper is slightly firmer than the Purple mattress, and we rated it a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. On the other hand, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 feels more like a 5 out of 10 on our scale.
Support
The Casper Wave Hybrid stands out a bit thanks to its 1.5-inch of AirScape™ with Zoned Support™ Max. This addition gives Casper firmer support in the heavy areas like your waist, hips, and lower back, which makes it a good option for people with back pain.
On the other hand, we wouldn’t cast out the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress just yet. This hybrid has the GelFlex Gird™ with coils underneath that help provide adequate support even with the softer feel.
Feel
As you lie on the Casper Wave Hybrid, you’ll feel the foam sinking under your weight, providing a deep cradle for optimal pressure relief. Zoned support ensures a proper sleeping posture in different positions.
The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress feels softer, but the GelFlex Grid™ makes a big difference here. This layer makes the mattress feel both firm and soft in different areas, depending on how much pressure is applied. There’s a cradling feel to it, but with plenty of support for the spine.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
Both of these beds are considered bouncy thanks to the coils in the construction. However, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress may edge the Wave Hybrid out as it’s slightly bouncier toward the surface. The GelFlex Grid™ layer allows enough sinkage to contour around your curves for a pressure-relieving sensation.
The Casper Wave Hybrid has most of its bounce lower in the construction, where the coils are. When it comes to sinkage, the Wave Hybrid offers variable levels depending on the sleeper’s weight. However, most people should experience a deep cradle into the AirScape™ comfort layers.
Comparing Motion Transfer
As mentioned, most of Casper’s bounce is in the coil layer and there are four foam layers sitting on top. This helps to cancel out some of that bounce and enhance motion isolation. The enhanced motion isolation makes this a good mattress for couples and co-sleepers sharing their bed with kids or pets.
The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress is bouncier and may not offer such high levels of motion isolation. This bed has two layers located above the coils, so that may not be enough to dampen the movement if you share your mattress with a restless sleeper.
Comparing Cooling
Hybrids are naturally more cooling than all-foam mattresses, so you can expect both Casper and Purple to be quite breathable. The Casper Wave Hybrid has three layers of perforated AirScape™ foam that help promote airflow so that the construction doesn’t overheat with so many foam layers. On top of that, the first AirScape™ layer is infused with cooling gel that draws body heat away from the surface.
The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress features the brand’s proprietary GelFlex Grid™ made of temperature-neutral materials. On top of that, the cover is breathable, and the coils help promote airflow.
Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)
Casper Wave Hybrid Construction
The Casper Wave Hybrid is 13 inches tall, featuring five layers and a luxurious cover. The cover is made from recycled polyester, upcycled cotton, lycra, and rayon. In addition, the perimeter has firm foam for better edge support.
- The first comfort layer is made from AirScape™ poly foam, featuring cooling gel and a perforated structure. This helps keep the surface cool for those who sleep hot.
- The second comfort layer is also made from AirScape™. This is firmer than the one above, so it adds responsiveness and more support.
- The third comfort layer is made from AirScape™ memory foam that contours to your body while enhancing support thanks to Zoned Support™ Max. This layer promotes spine alignment as it’s firmer in the hips, waist, and lower back.
- The transition layer is poly foam with gel pods under the waist and lower back. There’s also Zoned Support™ Max in this layer for added support.
- The support layer is seven inches tall, featuring pocketed coils for enhanced support and bounce.
Purple Hybrid Premier 3 Construction
The Purple Hybrid Premier 3 mattress is 12 inches tall and features the Premium StretchMax Cover made from lycra, polyester, and viscose. This blend is highly breathable and also stretchy and responsive. In addition, the side panels are woven and breathable to enhance airflow.
- The comfort layer is made from the brand’s proprietary GelFlex Grid™, made from temperature-neutral materials. This layer is flexible and allows enough contouring to relieve pressure without making you feel trapped.
- The transition layer is made from .75 inches of foam that help sleepers ease into the supportive layer underneath.
- The support layer features 7.5-inch coils for even support across the mattress surface. The coils are individually wrapped to add bounce and ensure proper spine alignment while dampening movement as much as possible.
- The base is .75-inch foam, ensuring the upper layers perform at their peak without any sinking or sagging.
Comparing Company Policies & Price
- Warranty – Both beds have a 10-year warranty.
- Shipping – Casper and Purple offer free shipping to contiguous US states, while there’s a shipping fee for Alaska and Hawaii. Purple charges 200 dollars for the in-home setup, whereas Casper charges 199 dollars.
- Trial Period – Both mattresses come with a 100-night trial, which should give you ample time to try out the mattress.
- Returns – Purple lets you return the Hybrid Premier 3 mattress for free, but you must first keep it for at least 21 days and no longer than 100 nights. Returning the Wave Hybrid is also free, but Casper requires you to keep the bed for 30 days. Any fees you paid for the in-home setup are non-refundable in both cases.
- Price – Both of these hybrids are on the more expensive side, but the Purple model is slightly pricier.
