Nectar Hybrid Mattress Comparison for 2024

Bed-in-a-box brand Nectar is known for making high-quality, comfortable mattresses — sans a hefty price tag. While the company is best known for their classic memory foam constructions, all three of those models also come in a hybrid option that implements coils.

I tested all three of Nectar’s hybrid mattresses:  the Nectar Hybrid, the Nectar Premier Hybrid, and their new Nectar Luxe Hybrid. In this comparison, I’ll break down how each bed performed against one another to help you decide which of these Nectar hybrids could be your new dream mattress.

Nectar Hybrid Mattress Comparison: How Are They Similar?

  • Hybrid beds – All three of these beds are hybrid mattresses, meaning they each contain layers of foam and steel coils.
  • Fantastic motion isolation – The Nectar Hybrid, Nectar Premier Hybrid, and the Nectar Luxe Hybrid all scored a 5 out of 5 on motion isolation. A bed with fantastic motion isolation means one person’s movements won’t travel to the other side of the bed and disrupt the other sleeper.
  • Cooling mattress – Each Nectar hybrid mattress has a cooling, moisture-wicking cover and innerspring coils that disperse heat. Because of these features, all three Nectar hybrid mattresses earned a score of at least a 4 out of 5 for cooling.

Nectar Hybrid Mattress Comparison: How Are They Different?

  • Price – These mattresses are priced differently, with the Nectar Hybrid being the most affordable and the Nectar Luxe Hybrid being the most expensive. A queen Nectar Hybrid costs $1,199, a queen Premier Hybrid costs $1,799, and a queen Luxe Hybrid costs $2,249.
  • Work well for different sleeping positions – Each Nectar hybrid mattress caters to different sleeping positions. For example, the Nectar Hybrid and the Nectar Premier Hybrid are good options for some back sleepers, while the Nectar Luxe Hybrid is a better choice for side sleeping.
  • Firmness rating – These three mattresses have slightly different firmness levels. The Nectar Hybrid and Nectar Premier Hybrid are both medium-firm and the Nectar Luxe Hybrid is on the cusp of medium and medium-plush.

Nectar Hybrid Mattress Comparison: Firmness, Feel, and Construction

Firmness & Feel

Firmness is how soft or hard a bed feels when lying on it. We rate mattress firmness on a scale from 1 (extra soft) to 10 (extra hard).

MattressSleep Advisor Firmness RatingFeelTester Feedback
Nectar Hybrid6/10Medium-Firm
At first, this medium-firm mattress felt soft at the top, but once I lay on it for a bit I could feel the coils supporting my body.
Nectar Premier Hybrid6/10Medium-FirmThe Nectar Premier Hybrid is a medium-firm bed that has contouring plush foam. Depending on your weight and sleeping position, you may or may not feel fully supported by the coil layer below the soft foam.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid
5.5/10Medium/Medium-PlushThe Nectar Luxe Hybrid is on the cusp of medium/medium-plush. This mattress feels pretty soft, which is probably because of its thick foam. I felt enveloped by this mattress.

Mattress Construction

The Nectar Hybrid, Nectar Premier Hybrid, and Nectar Luxe Hybrid all have a very similar construction, with a cooling cover, Therapeutic Memory Foam, a Responsive Support Layer, 8 inches of coils, a supportive layer of foam, and a Shift-Resistant Lower Cover.

The only difference in the construction of these three beds is the thickness of the Therapeutic Memory Foam. The Nectar Hybrid has 1 inch of this foam, the Premier Hybrid contains 2 inches, and the Luxe Hybrid has 3 inches. The difference in the height of these foam layers contributes to the different feeling and firmness of each bed.

Nectar Hybrid Comparison: Mattress Testing Performance

Pressure Relief

  • Nectar Hybrid Pressure Relief Score: 4.5/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Pressure Relief Score: 5/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Pressure Relief Score: 5/5

All three of Nectar’s hybrid mattresses performed well in the pressure relief category. To test these beds’ pressure relief, I used a map that showed where on my body there was pressure buildup when I lay on each mattress.

The Premier Hybrid and Luxe Hybrid mattresses had excellent pressure relief. Both pressure maps were green and blue, which means there was very little pressure buildup when I was lying on both of these beds.

The Nectar Hybrid showed the slightest bit of buildup (yellow and red) around my shoulders when I was on my side, but otherwise relieved pressure really well, so I scored this mattress a 4.5 out of 5.

Support

  • Nectar Hybrid Support Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Support Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Support Score: 4/5

These three Nectar mattresses are very supportive, each earning a score of 4 out of 5. Since these three mattresses are hybrids, their layers of coils provide a lot of support. However, heavyweight folks likely won’t feel supported enough by these mattresses, nor will other sleepers in certain positions, such as stomach sleeping, so that’s why they didn’t earn scores of 5 out of 5.

Motion Isolation

  • Nectar Hybrid Motion Isolation Score: 5/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Motion Isolation Score: 5/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Motion Isolation Score: 5/5

To test motion isolation, I lay on each Nectar mattress while my colleague, Corey, got onto each bed. Using a seismograph app, I could accurately measure how much of Corey’s movement was transferred to my side of the bed.

All three seismographs for these three beds showed minimal high spikes, which means excellent motion isolation. Motion isolation is important for couples who don’t want to disturb their partner when they move around at night.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

  • Nectar Hybrid Cooling Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Cooling Score: 4.5/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Cooling Score: 4/5

When testing these Nectar mattresses’ temperature regulation, I used a temperature gun to measure each bed’s temperature before I lay on them, after five minutes, and then after 10 minutes of laying on them.

The Nectar Hybrid was originally 69.1 degrees, then 76.6 degrees after five minutes, and 73.3 after 10 minutes. Since the temperature increased quite a bit and then decreased, I scored this mattress a 4 out of 5 for temperature regulation. Similarly, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid scored a 4 out of 5 for its cooling qualities. This bed increased from 68.1 degrees to 74.8 degrees and then 75.3 degrees.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid slightly outperformed the other two mattresses in the category of temperature regulation. Although this mattress increased from 66.7 degrees to 74.4 degrees and then to 75.5 degrees, it felt cool to the touch and I wasn’t hot at all when I lay on it.

Bounce

  • Nectar Hybrid Bounce Score: 3.5/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Bounce Score: 3/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Bounce Score: 2.5/5

Dropping a 10-pound medicine ball onto each of these beds, I could assess how much bounce, or responsiveness, they had. I also jumped on the mattresses.

The Nectar Hybrid received the highest score of the three because although the ball landed with a thud, it bounced up quite a bit. But I wasn’t able to move around super easily on this mattress.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid didn’t bounce much when I jumped on the bed, and when the medicine ball hit the mattress, there wasn’t much of a rebound.

The least responsive was the Nectar Luxe Hybrid. I didn’t catch much air when I jumped it, and when I dropped a medicine ball, it only slightly bounced off the bed.

Edge Support

  • Nectar Hybrid Edge Support Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Edge Support Score: 4.5/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Edge Support Score: 3/5

I measured these beds’ edge support by lying and sitting at the edge for a minute each. This way, I could see how supported I felt in both positions.

Of the three, the Nectar Premier Hybrid had the best edge support. When I lay on the edge of the bed, I felt extremely supported with no concern of rolling off. As I bent over like I was tying my shoes while seated, there was only slight sinkage.

The Nectar Hybrid also has good edge support, which I rated a 4 out of 5. When I was seated, I sank a little bit, but I was completely secure when I lay on the edge of the bed.

Finally, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid has average edge support. The bed’s plush foam caused me to sink significantly when I bent over while seated. I also sank quite a bit when lying on the edge, but I didn’t feel like I was going to fall off the bed.

Couples

  • Nectar Hybrid Couples Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Couples Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Couples Score: 3/5

I measured how well these mattresses perform for couples based on their performance in areas most helpful to co-sleepers, such as motion isolation, temperature regulation, bounce, support, and edge support. Firmness also comes into play here; a versatile feel like medium-firm is typically best for co-sleepers.

The Nectar Hybrid and Nectar Premier Hybrid both performed well for couples. I deducted a point from both the beds’ couples scores because of their lower ratings for bounce. The Nectar Luxe Hybrid is an average choice for couples. I deducted two points from its score because of its lower bounce score and its medium-plush firmness level, which might be too soft to appeal to both partners.

Accessibility

  • Nectar Hybrid Accessibility Score: 3.5/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Accessibility Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Accessibility Score: 4/5

At Sleep Advisor, we measure accessibility, or how much a mattress goes the extra mile, by taking into consideration different features a bed may or may not come with.

All three hybrid Nectar mattresses have year-long sleep trials, handles for easy transportation, and free returns. Even though white glove delivery is offered, it costs an additional $199. I gave the Nectar Premier Hybrid and Nectar Luxe Hybrid scores of 4 out of 5, and the Nectar Hybrid a 3.5. I deducted this half-point from the Nectar Hybrid because it is the most basic model of the three beds.

Customer Service

  • Nectar Hybrid Customer Service Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Premier Hybrid Customer Service Score: 4/5
  • Nectar Luxe Hybrid Customer Service Score: 4/5

Nectar has great customer service policies, outperforming many of their competitors. Their mattresses come with a lifetime warranty, a 365-night sleep trial, free shipping and returns, and white glove delivery (for an additional fee). The company also offers an online mattress quiz to help you pick the right bed. The only reason I deducted a point from this score was because the brand’s online chat system isn’t always the most helpful. I have found whether or not it’s helpful largely depends on what question you’re asking.

Nectar Hybrid Mattress Comparison FAQs

What mattress is comparable to Nectar?

Some other hybrid mattresses similar to Nectar Hybrid beds are the DreamCloud Hybrid, the Bear Elite Hybrid, and the WinkBed.

What firmness is the Nectar Hybrid?

The Nectar Hybrid is a medium-firm mattress. I rated it a 6.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale.

What are the negatives of a hybrid mattress?

One negative part of purchasing a hybrid mattress is that you don’t always get the bounce or responsiveness that a typical innerspring mattress has. Instead, the bed’s foam layers absorb some movement. Hybrids also tend to be more costly than innerspring and all-foam beds.

Is a Nectar hybrid mattress good for a heavy person?

Based on our testing, I don’t recommend any of the Nectar hybrid mattresses to a heavy person. These mattresses did not perform well for heavyweight folks in most sleeping positions, as they’re too soft for proper support. If you’re a heavyweight sleeper, I suggest something from our list of the top beds for heavy sleepers instead.

Our Final Thoughts on Nectar Hybrid Mattresses

Nectar’s three hybrid mattresses are all similar in construction, customer service, motion isolation, and support. These medium-firm beds with layers of foam and a unit of supportive coils provide both cushion and reinforcement.

However, that is where their similarities end. Each of these beds has many unique qualities that make them better for different types of sleepers.

The Nectar Hybrid is my recommendation if you’re a hot sleeper, light sleeper, or in a couple. I suggest you try out the Nectar Premier Hybrid if you have more money to spend and sleep hot or on your back. And as long as you’re willing to spend even more money, you may want to try the Nectar Luxe Hybrid if you are a light sleeper, side sleeper, or have joint pain.

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

At Sleep Advisor, we use various testing methods to ensure we can give you the most comprehensive review of each product we test. To test the three hybrid Nectar mattresses compared in this article, I tested temperature regulation using a temperature gun, measured motion isolation with a seismograph, tested bounce with a medicine ball, and assessed pressure relief with a pressure map. Additionally, I tested out these mattresses on my side, back, and stomach to see how they fared for each position.
