The Nectar is the Nectar brand’s original all-foam bed, while the Nectar Hybrid is its hybrid cousin that takes Nectar’s classic design and adds a unit of pocketed coils. They may be different plays on one another, but aside from their mattress type, they retain almost the same features. Both beds are 12 inches tall, wrapped in a breathable quilted cover, and constructed with pressure-relieving memory foam.
At the end of the day, you’ll want to decide if you prefer the extra buoyancy and lift of a hybrid build or the contouring, slow-moving feel of an all-foam bed. I tested both beds for myself and will share how they stack up against each other.

Nectar vs. Nectar Hybrid: Firmness, Feel, and Construction
Firmness & Feel
We rate mattress firmness on a firmness scale of 1-10. The plushest beds will get a 1, while the firmest beds will get a 10. That said, most beds we test fall within the middle of this scale.
Mattress | Sleep Advisor Firmness Rating | Feel | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|---|
Nectar | 7.5/10 | Firm | While the Nectar doesn’t have the traditional deep contouring of other foam beds, I found it surprisingly supportive and uplifting. For that reason, I gave it a firm rating of 7.5 |
Nectar Hybrid | 6/10 | Medium-Firm | The Nectar Hybrid has a true 6.5 medium-firm feel that should make most sleepers happy. The top layers feel quite soft, but the coils push back to keep you lifted. |
Mattress Construction
The Nectar and Nectar Hybrid are nearly identical in construction. They’re both 12 inches tall, wrapped in a breathable quilted cover, and have pressure-relieving memory foam.
The only real difference is the mattress type — the Nectar is an all-foam bed, whereas the Nectar Hybrid is a hybrid made of foam and pocket coils. To maintain the same height profile, the Nectar Hybrid has a thinner foundation base foam to make room for the springs.

Nectar vs. Nectar Hybrid: Mattress Testing Performance
Pressure Relief
- Nectar Pressure Relief Score: 4/5
- Nectar Hybrid Pressure Relief Score: 4.5/5
We use a pressure map that generates heat images of pressure buildup. The all-foam Nectar had large pockets of blue and green (low pressure), with just a few small yellow areas (moderate pressure).
The Nectar Hybrid had a greater ratio of blue and green. Even though you can see some pressure in my shoulder on the Nectar Hybrid, I felt more comfortable on it for side sleeping than I did on the Nectar, particularly in my hip. For these reasons, it ranks slightly higher than the Nectar.
Support
- Nectar Support Score: 5/5
- Nectar Hybrid Support Score: 4/5
Support is determined by lying on each bed in side, stomach, and back sleeping positions to see how well our spines maintain their natural S-curve. Its 12 inches of supportive foam, including an eight-inch stability layer, gave the Nectar a solid 5 out of 5 support score. I ranked the Nectar Hybrid slightly lower because of a slight dip it created while testing it for back sleeping.
Motion Isolation
- Nectar Motion Isolation Score: 5/5
- Nectar Hybrid Motion Isolation Score: 5/5
We use a seismograph app to measure how much motion travels across a bed while shifting around on top of it. I lay on each bed while my colleague, Corey, moved around on the other side of the mattress. I barely felt his movements on both beds, and the seismograph app picked up only minimal motion transfer, which is why I rated the Nectar and Nectar Hybrid equally.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
- Nectar Cooling Score: 4/5
- Nectar Hybrid Cooling Score: 4/5
I used a thermal gun on each bed to measure the temperature before lying on it, and then after lying on it for five and 10 minutes. These two Nectars each rose roughly 7 degrees while lying on it, which is a sign of good cooling properties.
I rated both beds a 4 out of 5, but it’s worth noting the Nectar Hybrid cooled down slightly after 10 minutes (likely due to the coils pushing air through the mattress).
Bounce
- Nectar Bounce Score: 3.5/5
- Nectar Hybrid Bounce Score: 3.5/5
I tested bounce by dropping a 10-pound medicine ball on both beds and observed how quickly the mattress regained its shape. Buoyancy is useful in a mattress because it can help you move around more easily, which is why we often recommend it for combo sleepers, those with limited mobility, and sexually active couples.
Neither of these Nectar beds had impressive bounce. Their slow-moving memory foam layers likely contributed to this, but I wouldn’t call their responsiveness necessarily bad since it was still fairly easy to change sleeping positions. That said, if you’re looking for more bounce, I would suggest something from our list of the top innerspring beds instead.
Edge Support
- Nectar Edge Support Score: 5/5
- Nectar Hybrid Edge Support Score: 4/5
I tested edge support on each bed by sitting at the edge for a minute and then lying at the edge for another minute. I was surprised to see that the all-foam Nectar outperformed the Nectar Hybrid in edge support, even though the Nectar Hybrid has edge-to-edge coils. This is likely due to the Nectar Classic’s firmer-than-average feel. Still, the Nectar Hybrid is also a solid choice for folks in need of good edge support, including couples who may want to spread out when they sleep.
Couples
- Nectar Couples Score: 4/5
- Nectar Hybrid Couples Score: 4/5
To come up with our coupes, score we look at how it performs in the performance categories that make the sleep and sex experience more comfortable for co-sleepers, including, overall support, bounce, edge support, motion isolation, and cooling. Since the beds performed so similarly, they both received a 4 out of 5.
However, there are some additional considerations that I think could help couples decide between them. The Nectar fared better in edge support, so if you and your partner like to spread out, that one might be preferred. On the flip side, the Nectar Hybrid has more of a medium-firm feel, and we often find that medium-firm beds are more universally accommodating for two people sharing a bed.

Accessibility
- Nectar Accessibility Score: 4.5/5
- Nectar Hybrid Accessibility Score: 3.5/5
This category is about how the mattress and/or brand set themselves apart. I decided to rate the Nectar higher because of its 8-inch stability layer, which truly creates a lifted feel that keeps the spine in its natural alignment. The Nectar Hybrid is a great bed, but it doesn’t have many unique properties that make it stand out from other similarly-priced hybrid beds.
Customer Service
- Nectar Customer Service Score: 4/5
- Nectar Hybrid Customer Service Score: 4/5
Overall, Nectar has easy-to-access customer service available seven days a week via live chat, a toll-free number, or email. I loved being able to chat with a real person over online chat (rather than AI), and when the customer service rep couldn’t answer my question, they found someone who could. The only reason I deducted a point is because the final answer wasn’t very clear.

Nectar vs. Nectar Hybrid FAQs
What firmness is the Nectar Hybrid?
I rated the Nectar Hybrid a 6 out of 10, which we consider to be medium-firm.
Is the Nectar Hybrid mattress good for a heavy person?
The Nectar Hybrid is probably too soft for a heavy person, but the Nectar will be more supportive with its firmer feel.
What is the difference between hybrid and memory foam mattresses?
Hybrid mattresses typically combine contouring foam layers with supportive coils, while memory foam mattresses have all-foam builds that usually include memory foam toward the top and denser poly foam further below.
How long will the Nectar Hybrid mattress last?
A mattress that receives proper TLC should last anywhere from seven to 10 years. Keeping the mattress clean and rotating it every six months can help extend its lifespan.
Our Final Thoughts on the Nectar vs. Nectar Hybrid
The Nectar Classic and Nectar Hybrid perform similarly in motion isolation and pressure relief, but each comes with benefits and drawbacks. The Nectar might be too firm for lightweight side sleepers, while the Nectar Hybrid might be too soft for most stomach sleepers. The Nectar Classic has stronger edge support, but the Nectar Hybrid has the benefit of an air-circulating coil system that helps push air throughout the mattress (cooling it down faster). At the end of the day, the right bed for you will depend on your ideal sleeping position and weight.
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
My first-hand testing included using special tools to collect data on different performance categories, like a thermal gun for cooling and a pressure map for pressure relief. I also laid on each bed to gauge its support, firmness, and overall comfort level. Wondering how it all works? Here’s a breakdown of our product review process.
