Who I’d Recommend the Layla For
- Those who want multiple firmness options – If your firmness preferences require something on the softer or firmer side of Medium, Layla offers both options for a more tailored fit.
- Side sleepers – The soft side should hold your body in a slightly deeper cradle, which is comfortable for most side sleepers and those looking for pressure relief.
- Hot sleepers – With the inclusion of super-conductor copper ThermoGel® in the cover, and ventilated foam, Layla has taken extra measures to combat the heat retention associated with memory materials. Your body temperature should be well-regulated through the night.
Comparing Nectar vs. Layla: Top Similarities
- The materials – Both beds are made of entirely foam, so they’re good for pressure relief and soft contouring but may not be the best choice for people over 230 pounds. Look at Best Mattresses for Heavy People for more options.
- Excellent motion isolation – Since they’re all-foam beds, these don’t have too much bounce. As a result, both mattresses have good motion-isolating capabilities for partners with different sleeping habits.
- Cooling – Although the Layla bed may sleep slightly cooler than the Nectar mattress, both beds should work well for hot sleepers.
Comparing Nectar vs. Layla: Key Differences
- Firmness levels – The most obvious difference is the fact that Layla is flippable, whereas the Nectar mattress is not. This means Layla has two firmness levels and Nectar has only one.
- Height – The Nectar mattress is 12 inches tall, while the Layla bed is only 10.5 inches.
- Price – We think both beds are affordable, but the Layla is slightly more expensive than Nectar.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
Nectar is in the medium to medium-firm range, with a score of 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. Depending on which side you flip to, Layla scores at either a soft 4 or a firm 7 out of 10.
Mattresses in Nectar’s firmness range tend to be the most versatile, but Layla’s dual-sided construction allows you to tailor the bed to your individual needs.
Support
The Layla mattress has that classic memory foam feel that contours your curves, but it doesn’t lack in the support department, especially if you choose the firmer side. The firmer side of the Layla bed doesn’t allow as much sinkage, supporting your body in alignment and making it easier to reposition.
The Nectar bed gets most of its support from the bottom two layers, which are firmer than the upper ones. This helps distribute your weight and keep everything aligned regardless of your preferred sleeping position.
Feel
Slow-responding memory materials in Nectar uniformly hug the full length of your body and the softer Layla’s 5 inches of comfort foam lets your body slowly sink into a deep cradling experience. Side sleepers should especially appreciate the pressure relief on offer from each choice because of their tendency to sleep with their weight more concentrated, which can cause pressure points to form.
Both beds have that classic memory foam feel, so if you’re a fan of body-hugging memory foam, you should enjoy either mattress.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
Beds with memory foam tend to absorb weight without a lot of pushback, and both beds have pretty minimal bounce. Each also holds your body in a deep hug that contours to your curves, which is the traditional memory bed experience.
Most individuals should be able to move around without difficulty on either bed but note that Layla’s cradle is slightly deeper. If you are someone who prefers to sleep closer to the surface, Layla does have a firm side with a shallower cradle with a bit more bounce that makes repositioning easier.
Comparing Motion Transfer
All-foam beds with memory materials perform beautifully with motion isolation, so it was not surprising to see both beds achieved high marks in this category. Light-sleepers who share their bed will be satisfied with each bed’s ability to absorb movement and reduce disturbance.
They have next to no bounce, which is ideal for those who want maximum motion isolation. This makes both Nectar and Layla good for partners with different sleeping habits and those who share their beds with pets or kids.
Comparing Cooling
Both models should be good for hot sleepers since they don’t run as hot as most memory foam beds. The Layla mattress has a cooling cover on both sides and copper- and gel-infused memory foam that helps draw body heat away from the mattress surface. In addition, the support layer contains tiny holes to promote airflow.
Nectar has a moisture-wicking cover similar to the one found on the Layla mattress. In addition, it has gel infusions in the memory foam to help prevent it from overheating. One thing to keep in mind is that neither bed has a cool-to-the-touch cover.
We also want to mention that while both mattresses sleep cooler than traditional foam beds, they won’t sleep as cool as a hybrid or innerspring mattress with coils (aka the best cooling material). If you’re an extra hot sleeper, we recommend opting for a coil-based mattress.

Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)
Layla Construction
The Layla starts off with a fully-removable cover made from a polyester blended with stretchy viscose and lycra. An infusion of cooling ThermoGel® helps regulate the surface temperature, but it’s not too cool to the touch.
- The top layer is a 3-inch piece of memory foam infused with copper that provides comfort and pressure relief. The copper contains properties that help conduct heat away from the body, keep the foam germ-free, and offer additional support where it is most needed.
- The second layer is convoluted for airflow, meaning its structure has dips and channels like egg crates. This 2-inch layer helps keep the temperature regulated and provides additional support and pressure relief for the sleeper.
- The third layer is the structural core of the bed that stands 4 inches thick and supports your spinal alignment.
- The fourth layer is 1 inch of copper-infused memory materials that form the surface of the bed when it is flipped to the Firm side.
Nectar Construction
Nectar’s cover is made of a breathable poly-blend material that is quilted to a layer of gel memory materials for added comfort and cooling. This helps draw body heat away from the bed’s surface. Altogether, the mattress stands 12 inches tall.
- The top layer is a 2-inch layer of memory materials that contour to your shape and are infused with gel to enhance temperature regulation.
- The second layer is made of soft, premium foam. This quick-responding 3-inch layer is slightly firmer and provides transitional support.
- The third layer is a 7-inch thick standard conventional foam that provides the bed’s shape and support. This is what keeps the upper layers performing at their peak, preventing too much sinkage and premature sagging.
Comparing Company Policies & Price
- Warranty – Both Layla and Nectar offer lifetime warranties with these beds.
- Shipping – Layla and Nectar ship for free within the contiguous US. Both ship to Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska for a non-refundable fee. Nectar offers white glove delivery for additional 199 dollars.
- Trial Period – Nectar offers an industry-leading 365-night trial, while Layla only gives you 120 nights to test their memory foam bed.
- Returns – Returns are free and easy with both companies. Returning the mattress within the trial makes you eligible for a full refund.
- Price – The Nectar bed is more affordable than the Layla model, so it may be a better option for those on a budget.

Final Thoughts
In the end, there is no clear winner in this contest because there are significant advantages to each depending on what has brought you to the mattress market.
That being said, If you need something that can accommodate a couple with different tastes or are shopping for the best possible value, you may want to go with Nectar. If you are looking for advanced cooling technology and dual-sided firmness for a more custom feel, then the Layla may fit the bill.
