Who I’d Recommend the Loom & Leaf For
- Memory foam lovers – Our team loved how this memory foam mattress was revamped to add cooling features and minimize sinkage. This bed comes in two firmness options and we think both should deliver a cradle that melts pressure without making you too hot.
- Eco-conscious shoppers – This brand makes an effort to use more organic textiles and is built with more sustainable materials as a portion of the foams are bio-based. Eco-friendly mattress shoppers can feel good about their choices when choosing the Loom & Leaf.
- Shoppers wanting affordable luxury – The Sleep Advisor team members are big fans of Leaf & Loom’s use of high-quality materials and their luxury delivery service that takes the hassle away from setting up your new mattress. Who I’d Recommend the Purple For
- Shoppers interested in innovative materials – If you’re tired of more traditional mattress styles and want to try out something new, Purple offers a cool new experience GelFlex® Grid that may be what you have been waiting for.
- Lightweight sleepers – We think most lightweight back and stomach sleepers would prefer the Purple since they probably won’t be heavy enough to activate the comfort layers of the Loom & Leaf. However, lightweight side sleepers may be better off on something softer still.
- Those seeking versatility – Purple’s approach to bed building looks to provide consistent comfort across a spectrum of different sizes and body builds, in varying sleep positions. We feel that this could be a real bonus if you and your partner are struggling to agree on a mattress feel.

Comparing Loom & Leaf vs Purple: Top Similarities
- Cooling – Both beds offer cooling features that we think most sleepers will find adequate for staying temperature-neutral. The Purple’s gel grid has multiple channels that allow for airflow, while the Loom & Leaf has two layers of gel-infused memory foam. Both beds feature breathable covers.
- Firmness – Our team placed both beds at 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which is medium-firm. However, due to their differing constructions, we think each bed may appeal to a different shopper, depending on whether you prefer tradition or are open to innovation.
- Motion isolation – Although the Purple is bouncier than the Loom & Leaf, we found this doesn’t affect its ability to prevent movement traveling from one side of the bed to the other. Both beds offer great motion isolation.
Comparing Loom & Leaf vs Purple: Key Differences
- Support – While the Purple offers great support for light to average-weight sleepers, the Loom & Leaf provides better support for those on the heavier end of the scale. As such, we think the Loom & Leaf could be a great choice for most average to heavyweight people.
- Bounce – Our team found the Purple had moderate bounce, thanks to its responsive GelFlex® Grid, while the Loom & Leaf’s all-foam design didn’t offer much in the way of bounce.
- Warranty – You’ll get a lifetime warranty with the Loom & Leaf, and a shorter 10-year warranty with the Purple.
Comparing Firmness, Support & Feel
Firmness
The Loom & Leaf comes in two firmness options – Relaxed Firm or Firm – and we’re focusing on the Relaxed Firm for this review. The Purple is only offered in one firmness option, and our team placed both beds at 6 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale, where 10 is the firmest.
This settles both constructions into the medium-firm end of the spectrum that many gravitate towards for its versatile blend of comfort and support that works well with many body shapes and sleep positions.
Support
The Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm model offers a soft yet supportive sleeping experience that works best for average to heavyweight folks. While the Purple’s support is a little more versatile, our team found it may be better suited for light to average-weight people, as heavier sleepers may find they sink too deeply.
When it comes to edge support, both brands are great, but our testers found the Loom & Leaf slightly sturdier, which may be an advantage for couples who like to spread out.
Feel
The Loom & Leaf is definitely more of a classic memory foam experience that feels firm when you first lie down on it but grows softer as your body heat activates the foam beneath. This causes the mattress to cradle your shape and relieve pressure.
By comparison, due to the Purple’s unique design, it will probably feel different from any bed you’ve ever experienced! The elastic grid reacts quickly to pressure, and the poly foam that’s firm enough to support your spine and waist.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
The Loom & Leaf’s cover is the key to its gentle cradle, and because it’s so tightly stretched, you shouldn’t find that your body dips too far into the foams, so repositioning should be easy. We found this mattress doesn’t have a lot of bounce, as memory foams absorb vibration and slowly conform to your shape.
Purple’s sinkage depends a lot on how your body is shaped and where you carry your weight. Curvier people may sink in more, while straighter figures may sink less. There’s also a moderate bounce and quick response time with this choice, which made repositioning for our testers a snap.
Comparing Motion Transfer
Not much works better than memory foam at trapping motion at the source and preventing it from rattling through the bed and disturbing a partner. Loom & Leaf works extremely well here due to its high volume of quality memory foam material, but Purple should not be discounted, as it also has a foam base. This should absorb most of the typical motion transfer that we associate with normal tossing and turning, despite the bed’s bounce. So, if you share your bed with a restless partner, pet or child, we think you’ll likely sleep well on either bed.
Comparing Cooling
Both beds offer cooling features to help you sleep more comfortably. The Loom & Leaf has a breathable organic cotton cover, with two layers of perforated gel-infused memory foam that help to absorb body heat and promote airflow. The Purple also boasts a breathable cover, with the GelFlex® Grid allowing for plenty of airflow to keep the sleeping surface temperature-neutral.
While neither of these mattresses are necessarily dedicated to cooling, we think most sleepers should remain at a comfortable temperature throughout the night. However, if you’re a particularly sweaty sleeper, be sure to check out our pick of cooling mattresses.
Comparing Construction (Materials & Quality)
Loom & Leaf Construction
Saatva delivers the 12-inch all-foam Loom & Leaf full-size, and your purchase includes installation in your bedroom and the removal of your old mattress. The tightly stretched quilted cover is made from hypoallergenic organic cotton and forms a plush sleeping surface. The bed is treated with Guardin™ antimicrobial treatment, as well as a natural flame retardant made from thistle pulp.
- The top layer cradles your shape with 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam. Closest to the top, a panel of lumbar-zoned gel memory foam fosters good spine support and helps keep you cool.
- The second layer features 2.5 inches of high-density memory foam, offering comfort, support and a gentle cradle.
- The transition layer is made up of a 2-inch thick foam loft pad, easing you smoothly into the denser foam below.
- The base layer’s 5.5 inches of dense poly foam grounds the bed for spine aligning support.
Purple Construction
According to Purple’s website, their bed is 9.25 inches tall, though based on the breakdown of each mattress layer, it adds up to 9.5. So for this comparison, we’ll say this bed is 9.5 inches tall. The bed’s breathable SoftFlex cover is made of polyester, viscose and lycra, and can be removed for spot-cleaning.
- The top layer is what the brand is known for, a hyper-elastic polymer poured and molded into a 2-inch grid shape, called the GelFlex® Grid. This layer stands firm for support but buckles under your curves to remove pressure, designed to provide a very versatile blend of spine alignment and comfort. Edge support foam helps prevent the sides from collapsing.
- The next layer transitions to the support system, which is constructed with 3.5-inch thick medium-soft poly foam that provides additional comfort.
- The base layer provides the bulk of the bed’s support and stability using a dense 4-inch piece of poly foam.
Comparing Company Policies & Price
