Amerisleep
Amerisleep mattresses are crafted for high-end performance, and they take advantage of quality materials. There are even claims that the materials have been tested clinically to enhance your sleeping sensation. When it comes to constructing their mattresses, they take advantage of a few different types of layering. The most common technique is crafting a 12-inch thick mattress spread into three separate layers. The first layer is made out of 3 inches of Bio-Pur® foam. The second layer is 2 inches thick and is made of Affinity foam with HIVE® technology to deliver zoned support. The core of the bed is 7 inches thick, and it’s made out of BioCore® foam. The breathable Refresh Cooling Cover is designed to promote cooling by drawing the heat away from your body and remaining cool for at least eight hours.
Casper Original Mattress
With premium foam and multi-zoned support, Casper Original keeps your body in alignment, offering a good balance of support and gentle cradling. Although it’s an all-foam mattress, this one is breathable thanks to thousands of perforations that allow continuous airflow.

Casper
The Casper stands 12 inches tall and features four layers wrapped in a durable polyester fabric. The first layer is AirScape™, a proprietary comfort foam that gives the mattress bounce and breathability. The second layer is made up of 2 inches of Zoned Support™, a firmer transition layer in the bed’s center. This layer is designed to be firmer where your heavier areas are located and softer around the shoulders and knees for pressure relief. As a result, this should provide optimal spine alignment. The bottom layer is a dense foam that gives the mattress durability, provides support, and serves as the overall foundation.

Comparing Firmness/Support and Comfort
Amerisleep Firmness
The Amerisleep beds range from Soft to Firm, placing them between 4 and 7 out of 10, with 10 being the most firm.
The softest beds also deliver very little motion and provide a tight cradling effect which is something that you need to be a fan of in order to like (and many people enjoy it). However, they may be preferred by people who are lighter in terms of weight and who like to sleep in one sleeping position or their side throughout the entire night. Those who partake in the free faller sleeping position may want something firmer. The Amerisleep AS3 model is a medium feel, which should provide a middle-ground feel, blending soft pressure relief with sturdy support. The AS1 and AS2 are firmer, while the AS4 and AS5 will be softer.
Casper Firmness
The firmness of Casper’s beds is easily defined as medium to slightly firmer. Ranking between 6 and 7 of 10, the mattress provides additional support. The 4 layers of different foam can provide a slightly expressed hug and cradling effect just like the mattresses of Amerisleep, but it is pretty minimal overall.
Additionally, you are likely to feel that the bed is firmer if you are heavier. This is because your weight will cause an additional sinkage and interaction with the inner layers of the mattress which are known to be somewhat firmer.

Final Thoughts
If you’re choosing between the Casper and the Tuft & Needle for your next mattress, you are choosing between two excellent beds. The Casper will be a better fit for those who can afford to spend a little bit more on their mattress and want something slightly firmer and more supportive on the back.
The Tuft & Needle will be the better choice for those who want to shop a bit more eco-consciously and are interested in a unique mattress that feels both pressure-relieving and springy.
Whichever you choose, you’ll end up with a high-quality mattress from a reputable company.
