Leesa Construction
All-foam Leesa is rolled into a box and mailed, but the company also has made white glove delivery available in selected areas. It is also one of few brands that can be tested in stores, following a partnership between the company, Pottery Barn, and West Elm.
The cover, which bears the company’s four-stripe design, is made from a blend of polyester, viscose, and polyamides that can be zipped off for spot cleaning. The mattress is 10 inches in height and is made up of three layers.
- The top layer is made from a 2-inch quick-responding foam. This layer has pinholes to help temperature-regulating air flow through the surface while cradling your body.
- The second layer is built with memory materials and stands 2 inches thick. This adds contouring at a deeper level and traps body heat away from the surface, helping you stay cool.
- The base layer’s poly foam is denser than the previous two layers, which lends the bed a 6-inch foundation and provides firmness necessary to the sleeper’s spine.
Comparing Firmness (Support & Feel)
On our scale to 10 when 10’s the firmest, we score the Casper at a 6 and the Leesa at a 5.5. Though both mattresses are within the boundaries of what we’d consider Medium to Medium-Firm, the Leesa may feel just a touch softer (Not sure what that means? Check out our Firmness Guide for more info).
Both brands were built to hit the sweet spot on feel with a blend of support and comfort that most people prefer in most positions. Also, the construction both follows a similar pattern: A quick-responding and breathable material, followed with denser supportive materials.
Casper’s targeted spine alignment with its Zoned Support™ in the third layer amps up the bed’s ability to hold most bodies in a neutral position, especially for sleepers who carry extra weight around their middles because of the extra firmness placed in the center. Exclusive stomach sleepers, in particular, should love this new feature.
Leesa’s slightly softer comfort layers on top and increased thickness of comfort materials overall, give it a slight edge with pressure relief. Side sleepers tend to need more pressure relief around their shoulders and hips because more weight is pressing down on a smaller surface area. Exclusive side sleepers should appreciate the additional softness of Leesa, though back and stomach sleepers should still feel well supported.
Though each offers a slight edge in certain positions, both should perform with a versatility that should work well with most sleeping positions and for an array of body shapes.
Though Casper does not suggest a weight limit, Leesa recommends a maximum weight of 300 pounds for each individual sleeping on the mattress. Those with significant weight concerns should also note that both companies offer upgraded models, Casper Wave and the Sapira, that include additional enhanced support materials.
Comparing Sinkage and Bounce
Casper contains 3 inches of softer comfort layers to Leesa’s 4, so you might find Leesa’s cradle to be a touch deeper than Casper’s gentle cradle. Casper’s firmer layers should have slightly more bounce as well, which pairs with the firm base and quick-response time to help make repositioning simple to manage. Though Leesa’s bounce is minimal, the quick-responding latex-like material on the top should not pose any significant difficulty for active sleepers looking to move around at night.
Comparing Motion Transfer
Beds that incorporate memory materials do a great job in this category, so you shouldn’t wake up in the middle of the night feeling your partner tossing and turning in either of these mattresses. Even though Casper has slightly more bounce, both mattresses perform roughly the same.
Comparing Edge Support
Beds that have been compressed in boxes typically do not have defined edges, but both brands exceed expectation in this category. You may notice some slight compression when you sit on the edges, but sleeping along the side of both beds should feel secure.
Not everyone thinks about edge support, but couples who share their sleep space can increase their surface space by shopping for consistent edge-to-edge consistency.

Should I Buy Casper or Leesa?
Both comparably priced brands are designed to provide nearly universal support and comfort, but there are slight differences in sinkage and bounce that might be able to sway you one way or the other depending on your own personal preferences.
We Would Recommend Buying Casper if You are Looking for:
- Enhanced spinal support. The newly updated third layer provides additional support in the center of the mattress where the core of your body rests to help ensure it remains aligned with the rest of your body, regardless of your sleeping position.
- A gentler cradle. If you are concerned about sinking too deep into an all-foam bed, you may want to check out Casper’s gentler cradle that should allow you to sleep more on top of the mattress rather than deeper inside it. This is ideal for those who sleep hot because more air can circulate around your body to keep it cool.
- A firmer mattress. Though both beds are classified in the Medium range, you may experience Casper as slightly firmer. Exclusive stomach sleepers or back sleepers who prefer firmer mattresses may find that this brand is the better fit.
- Edge Support. Casper performs above average in this category compared to other mattresses in the bed-in-a-box category because of its firmer foams and dense base.
We Would Recommend Buying Leesa if You are Looking for:
- A deeper cradling all-foam experience. Sinkage in Leesa is slightly deeper for those individuals who prefer a more medium-level cradle that contours to their curves. This is especially ideal for side sleepers.
- Something softer. In addition to a deeper cradle, the Leesa is a touch softer than the competitor for those who prefer a touch extra pressure relief to pair with the bed’s great support system.
- A company with a strong charitable initiative. Leesa donates one mattress for every ten mattresses sold and plants a tree for every mattress they sell. They are also involved in quite a few community outreach programs.
- A product you can try before you buy. This is one of few bed-in-a-box choices that you can also try in a store in selected Pottery Barn and West Elm locations.
Final Thoughts
Casper and Leesa are very similar in their constructions and feels and offer fantastic versatility, but there are slight nuances to both that we hope will help you make a decision on which all-foam mattress is your best match. If you’re still on the fence and feel like you need more information, we encourage you to read our in-depth reviews.
