Who We Recommend Casper Wave Hybrid Snow For:
- Hot sleepers – As the name suggests, this mattress has exceptional cooling properties, making it ideal for those who sleep hot or live in a warm climate. These multiple cooling features in the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow extend from the cover all the way to the base.
- Back sleepers – We think this bed would suit lightweight and average-weight back sleepers, as well as those with back pain, who will appreciate the level of support it offers.
- Side sleepers – This mattress should also be ideal for lightweight and average-weight side sleepers, who may experience a good balance of joint support and pressure relief.
Who We Don’t Recommend Casper Wave Hybrid Snow For:
- Budget shoppers – This mattress isn’t cheap and won’t suit those who look for a mattress with a smaller budget or people looking for an affordable guest room option. However, if overheating is preventing you from sleeping well, investing in a cooling bed could be worth it.
- Stomach sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers could potentially be okay on this, but we found it wasn’t firm enough to keep most front sleepers’ hips raised at a healthy level. If you’re a stomach sleeper, consider checking out our picks of mattresses for stomach sleepers.
- Heavier sleepers – This mattress doesn’t offer enough support for heavyweight sleepers, who should look for firmer beds or mattresses designed for heavy people.
First Impressions: Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10
Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.
We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being super soft and 10 being incredibly firm. The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow came in at 6 out of 10 in our tests, making this mattress a medium-firm option, though slightly softer than the industry-standard medium-firm rating of 6.5.
While medium-firm mattresses are highly versatile, they don’t tend to work so well for heavier sleepers or stomach sleepers due to the lack of support. Most stomach sleepers and heavy sleepers gravitate towards firmer beds that can keep them well-supported.
How Does It Feel?
This Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is delivered compressed in a box and takes up to 24 hours to reach full size once unboxed.
Placing your hand down on the bed, you’ll feel the cool-to-the-touch cover, with its durable stitching, designed for longevity. Pressing down, you should feel the body contouring abilities of the initial layers of foam. These comfort layers combine with the innerspring unit to offer great support and pressure relief.
What We Like About Casper Wave Hybrid Snow
- Cooling – We found this bed lived up to its temperature regulation promises, so it should keep you cool and sweat-free all night long.
- Latex foam – Latex foam is more responsive than regular foam, so it gives the bed some added bounce, which is often lacking in memory foam models.
- Zoned support – This bed features softer foam around the shoulders and feet, while offering added support at the vital hip and lower back areas to keep your spine in healthy alignment.
Our Casper Wave Hybrid Snow Complaints
- Cost – This mattress is a luxury model and therefore, priced higher than your average hybrid, which may not be suitable for some shoppers. Find our picks for the best budget mattresses here.
- Potential supply chain issues – Casper experienced some issues at the launch of this model, with some customers receiving beds that didn’t decompress properly. If your mattress doesn’t reach full-size after 48 hours of unboxing, you may be in possession of a defective one. Contact Casper customer service for a replacement.
Testing Casper Wave Hybrid Snow: How it Performed
Each mattress we review is tested for important characteristics, like the firmness rating, motion isolation, pressure relief, spinal support, and responsiveness. Additionally, we test how the bed feels in each sleep posture. These are all important factors in determining whether the bed could be a good fit for you.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
There’s no official weight limit for the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow, as it’s designed to support all shapes and sizes. However, your body weight and sleeping position will affect how this mattress feels. For instance, heavier people will find it feels softer, while lighter people will find it more firm.
We don’t recommend this mattress for heavyweight sleepers, as it will likely feel far too soft to keep the spine in alignment. Lightweight to average-weight side and back sleepers may find this mattress ideal, but stomach sleepers will possibly experience too much sinkage in the hip area, causing discomfort.
Side Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – The medium-firmness of this bed should provide decent support and pressure relief at the all-important hips and shoulders. However, lightweight side sleepers may prefer a softer mattress for more comfort.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We think this mattress would be a good match for average-weight side sleepers, who should sink into the layers just enough to experience the pressure-relieving gel pods at the waist and lower back, while also feeling supported.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy-weight side sleepers will likely find there isn’t enough support to keep their hips and shoulder from sinking into the mattress. A firmer bed is advised.
Read more about the best mattresses for side sleepers.
Back Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – This mattress will likely feel firmer to lightweight back sleepers as they won’t sink so deep, so they should feel an excellent balance of support and pressure relief.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight back sleepers should feel elevated while still experiencing a good amount of pressure relief in the lower back region.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – We don’t recommend this bed to heavier back sleepers, who may find they require a much firmer mattress to keep their hips and lumbar raised.
Check out our roundup of back sleeper mattresses.
Stomach Sleepers
- Lightweight Sleepers – Although this mattress is medium-firm, it may still be too plush to keep lightweight stomach sleepers’ hips in alignment with their spine. A firmer bed would offer more support.
- Average-Weight Sleepers – We found this mattress unsuitable for average-weight stomach sleepers who will likely require the support of a firmer mattress to keep their hips raised at the correct level.
- Heavyweight Sleepers – This mattress isn’t a good match for heavyweight stomach sleepers, who would benefit from a more firm bed to keep everything in healthy alignment.

Pressure Relief & Pain
Pressure relief is important in a mattress and is subjective, depending on body weight and sleeping position. It’s important to find a mattress that offers the right level of cushioning in sensitive regions like the hips, lower back, and shoulders, especially if you tend to experience pain in those areas. We particularly recommend this mattress for light to average-weight side, back, and combination sleepers living with back pain, as it’s specifically designed to keep your spine in healthy alignment, which should help ease any discomfort.
Back Pain – With its zoned support foam and gel pods, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow should be a good fit for light to average-weight sleepers who experience back pain, as it will help relieve pressure in that area and keep everything in alignment.
Hip Pain – We recommend this mattress for side and back sleepers with hip pain, due to the zoned support areas which should offer some pain relief. However, stomach sleepers should steer clear, as the bed is too soft to keep their hips raised, which will create unnecessary pressure.
Shoulder Pain – Light to average-weight side sleepers should feel a good amount of pressure relief with this bed, though if you have particularly sore shoulders, a softer bed may be advised. Heavyweight sleepers are best off looking for a more firm mattress. Find our picks for the best mattresses for shoulder pain here.
Support
This bed offers great support for many sleepers, thanks to the coil unit and layers of supportive foam, though we found it didn’t provide enough support for heavyweight folk. Lightweight to average side and back sleepers should find they sink into the top layer of comfort foam enough to feel cradled, while also experiencing support from the lower foam layers.
Zoned support and gel pads should help keep the hips, lower back and waist aligned with the rest of the body, while offering extra comfort in the shoulder area. The coil layer helps to reduce the chance of the mattress sagging underneath you.
Motion Transfer
Motion isolation is important for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by a restless partner during the night. Hybrids tend to have more motion transfer than all-foam models because of their innerspring layer, but we found this mattress has good motion isolation. However, while you shouldn’t be disturbed too much by your partner moving around, you may feel it if they — or a pet — get in and out of bed while you’re lying down.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
Sweaty sleepers and those in hot climates will want a mattress with cooling properties, and the Casper Hybrid Snow has many. First, there’s the breathable QuickCool™ cover, which is cool-to-the-touch and infused with Phase Change Material to help regulate body temperature. A layer of cooling gel beneath this offers additional cooling properties.
AirScape™ foam layers feature perforated foam to encourage airflow, and the transition layer has HeatDelete™ bands which are designed to pull excess heat away from the body for over 12 hours. The innerspring unit features individually-pocketed coils for airflow and breathability.
Performance for Couples
Couples will appreciate the good motion isolation this mattress offers, as well as its cooling technology, which is vital for people who tend to overheat when sharing a bed. Thanks to its innerspring unit and layer of latex foam, the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow should have just enough bounce to make changing positions during sex a breeze.
Its medium-firm rating could be a good compromise for couples when shopping for a new bed, and great edge support means you can both spread out while sleeping.

Preference-based Features
Exceptional Cooling
This mattress features excellent cooling, thanks to Casper’s Snow Technology. This includes a breathable, cool-to-the-touch, heat-wicking cover, as well as a layer of cooling gel and special bands in the transition layer, to draw heat away from the body. There’s also an individually-wrapped coil layer and thousands of perforations in the foam layers, both which encourage airflow.
Great Edge Support
This mattress has stronger coils around the perimeter, which provides excellent edge support. We tested this feature by lying and sitting on the edge of the bed and found there was good support, which is great news for couples who want to make the most of the surface area of the mattress.
Good Motion Isolation
Despite being a hybrid, we found this mattress has good motion isolation. This is ideal for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by a partner moving around in the night. However, you may notice if they get in or out of bed at a different time than you.
Eco-Conscious Materials
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow features CertiPUR-US® certified foams, which means the foams used are made without harmful substances like ozone depletes, formaldehyde and heavy metals, and have low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions for indoor air quality. The cover is also made from up to 121 recycled plastic bottles, depending on mattress size.
Adjustable Base Compatible
You can use your Casper Wave Hybrid Snow on an existing adjustable base.
Construction: What’s Inside The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow?
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is a 13-inch hybrid mattress, made up of six layers of foam, latex, and coils, to offer support and exceptional cooling. At the top is a QuickCool™ cover is designed to fight humidity, feel cool to the touch, and prevent body heat from getting trapped in the foam layers. Attached to this is a layer of body-contouring premium foam.
- The second layer is the comfort layer, featuring a thin layer of cooling gel atop a layer of AirScape™ perforated breathable foam, which helps drive heat out thanks to the thousands of tiny holes. This layer is soft and pressure-relieving.
- The transition layer features natural latex foam (known for its cooling properties) combined with six HeatDelete™ Bands. These are positioned at the center of your body, to drive heat away
- Thezoned support layer is divided into three sections of memory foam that’s perforated for airflow. This layer is softer under the shoulders and feet, while offering firm support under the hips, waist, and lower back.
- The fifth layer features zoned poly foam for pressure relief and support, with up to 78 (depending on mattress size) gel pods beneath the lower back and waist, offering targeted comfort and support in those areas.
- The base layer gives an element of bounce, thanks to the pocketed coils, which further add to this mattress’ cooling abilities.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow mattress arrives compressed in a box, and weighs from 73 pounds (for the Twin) to 145 pounds (for the King). Once unboxed, the mattress will take up to 24 hours to fully expand, though you can sleep on it right away. You may experience an unpleasant off-gassing smell, which is normal for bed-in-a-box models and totally harmless, but this should disappear within a day or so.

Overall Summary
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow offers luxury engineering at a luxury price, but it may be well worth the money for light to average-weight side or back sleepers, who will make the most of this mattress’ contouring foam and targeted support layers.
Side Sleepers
4/5
Light to average-weight people who sleep on their side should experience a good amount of pressure relief at the shoulders due to the softer foams in that area. Firmer foam and gel pods at the hips and lower back should help to keep your spine in perfect alignment.
Back Sleepers
4/5
Back sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds should find this bed comfortable, thanks to the pressure-relieving foam and targeted support layers, which include gel pods at the waist and lower back. This should help with any lower back pain.
Stomach Sleepers
3/5
Although this bed is categorized as medium-firm, we don’t recommend it for most stomach sleepers, who may find it too soft to meet their needs. However, this bed may be suitable for exceptionally lightweight stomach sleepers, who will find the mattress feels firmer than their heavier counterparts.
Combination Sleepers
4/5
Light to average-weight combination sleepers who switch between sleeping on their side and back should find themselves feeling sufficiently cushioned and supported. The innerspring unit combined with the latex foam layer offers an element of responsiveness, which allows for easy transitions in the night.
Couples
4/5
Light to average-weight couples who sleep on their side or back should enjoy this mattress. Its combination of motion isolation, cooling technology, and edge support makes it a great choice for those who share a bed.
Heavy Sleepers
1/5
Heavier people who weigh over 230 pounds won’t find the support they need on the Casper Wave Hybrid snow mattress. In this case, we advise searching for a firmer bed or one that’s designed specifically for plus-size people and can provide the support they need.
Lightweight Sleepers
4/5
Lightweight side and back sleepers should experience a fantastic combination of pressure relief and support from this mattress, as they’ll likely find it feels more firm than heavier people would. However, some side sleepers may prefer a more plush mattress, and stomach sleepers will probably require a firmer bed to keep their hips in alignment.
Average Weight Sleepers
4/5
Side and back sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds will likely enjoy the feel of this hybrid, thanks to its balance of cushioning foam and zoned support layers, which should leave people at this body weight feeling cradled. We don’t, however, recommend this model for stomach sleepers, who will find that firmer mattress offers more hip support.
Overall Value
4/5
While the Casper Wave Hybrid Snow isn’t a budget model, we think it offers good value with its quality construction and durable materials. The cooling technology is exceptional and worth the spend for hot sleepers. After all, you can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep, especially one that doesn’t involve waking up dripping in sweat.
Our Verdict
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow makes big claims about its cooling capabilities, and we think it lives up to them. Light to average-weight people who sleep on their side or back and tend to overheat in the night will make the most of this model. If you fall in that category but don’t sleep hot, you can save yourself 500 dollars by removing the Snow Technology.
Couples who tick the boxes above will appreciate the good levels of motion isolation, edge support, and bounce. However, heavyweight sleepers should steer clear. This bed will feel too soft for anyone weighing over 230 pounds, who should instead look for a firmer mattress.
