Buying a new mattress can be uniquely challenging for heavier sleepers. Even though most mattresses have a high weight capacity, that doesn’t necessarily mean the materials in them will give enough support. To meet the needs of heavier people, manufacturers started making beds designed specifically for this demographic.
The Titan Plus Luxe is one of those mattresses; it’s made for people over 250 pounds. I tested this bed first-hand hand to see what other unique attributes it can give heavyweight sleepers looking for a good night’s rest.

Who I Recommend the Titan Plus Luxe For:
- Heavy sleepers – I tested this bed as an average-weight sleeper with the help of my heavyweight colleague. We both agree it was better for those over 250 pounds.
- Average-weight back sleepers – I liked how the Titan Plus Luxe felt for back sleeping, so I’d say you could still enjoy this bed even if you’re a back sleeper weighing under 250 pounds.
- Heavier couples – Titan Plus Luxe can handle up to 1,000 pounds, so it’s great for heavyweight couples as well.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Titan Plus Luxe For:
- Lightweight sleepers – Looking at how firm this mattress is, I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone under 130 pounds. Lightweight sleepers need a softer mattress with better pressure relief.
- Average-weight side sleepers – I didn’t like how the Titan Plus Luxe felt on my side because it created some pressure buildup. I would recommend a different, softer mattress for side sleepers under 230 pounds.
Customer Reviews of the Titan Plus Luxe Mattress
Users on Titan’s website have given the Titan Plus Luxe 4.6 out of 5 stars based on over 2,000 reviews. Customers find the Titan Plus mattress to offer exceptional durability and support, but some mention that it might be too firm for those who prefer a softer feel.
Testing the Titan Plus Luxe
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
I tested the Titan Plus Luxe mattress first-hand, focusing on key performance categories like support, pressure relief, motion isolation, bounce, cooling, and edge support. Also, considering this is a bed made for heavier sleepers and I’m average-weight, I made sure to include feedback from some of our heavyweight testers, including Sean from our video review above.
Throughout my time with the Titan Plus Luxe, I used several tools and methods to evaluate its performance, some of which include a seismograph app for motion isolation and a temperature gun for cooling.

Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 7/10
We use a firmness scale to better explain how firm (or soft) a mattress is. This scale goes from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. After testing the Titan Plus Luxe, I confidently placed it at 7 out of 10.
We qualify this as a slightly firm feel. Keep in mind that felt firmer to me, an average-weight tester, whereas Sean considered it to have more of a medium firmness.
How Does the Titan Plus Luxe Feel?
The Titan Plus Luxe feels comfortable when sleeping on my back and stomach. The firmer feel delivered excellent spine alignment, and I felt supported throughout. Sean felt the same, adding that it generously supported his weight.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The Titan Luxe Hybrid mattress can support up to 1,000 pounds total, which means a limit of 500 pounds per person for couples.
Side Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | I didn’t like how this mattress felt on my side, and I’m average-weight. I can only imagine how uncomfortable it would be for anyone under 130 pounds. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | I noticed a lot of pressure buildup on my side when, so I wouldn’t recommend this bed for average-weight side sleepers. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Another heavyweight colleague who is 270 pounds enjoyed this bed for side sleeping, adding that he got good pressure relief from it. |
Back Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | I can see how lightweight back sleepers can enjoy this bed more than side sleepers. However, I still think they’d prefer a slightly softer mattress. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | The Titan Plus Luxe was a whole different story in this position. On my back, I felt good support and pressure relief around my hips. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | The other heavyweight tester I work with (weighing 270 pounds) also appreciated this bed for back sleeping. He shared that he got plenty of body contouring comfort from it. |
Stomach Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | This might be the best position on the Titan Plus Luxe for lightweight folks since stomach sleepers only do best on firmer beds. But unless you have a heavyweight partner, I don’t think petite sleepers need this specific bed. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | I loved how this mattress kept my hips and shoulders elevated and my spine aligned. My only concern is that it may be too firm for women with a bigger chest. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | That same colleague weighing in at 270 pounds said this bed was too soft for him in this position. |
Pressure Relief
3.5/5
How a bed feels is one thing, but we also use a pressure map to get real-time readings on whether a bed is actually melting away pressure throughout the body. Red and yellow mean there’s pressure buildup, whereas blue and green mean there’s little to no pressure.
If you look at the results I got, you can see the Titan Plus Luxe gave me different results in different positions. I absolutely loved how it felt on my back, and as you can see, the map showed all blue. Sleeping on my side, on the other hand, was not comfortable, hence the red streak down my body.
Because of the pressure while side sleeping, I gave it a 3.5 out of 5 here.

Is the Titan Plus Luxe Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
I believe the Titan Plus Luxe could be good for pain relief if you’re a back sleeper, but it might worsen existing pain for side sleepers due to how firm it is.
Back Pain | I experienced wonderful pressure relief and support on my back, so I don’t think your back pain would get worse on this mattress. Read more about mattresses for back pain here. |
Hip Pain | My hips were nicely elevated, but I think people with hip pain will need better pressure relief if they sleep on their side. Read more about mattresses for hip pain here. |
Shoulder Pain | If you’re a back sleeper, this Titan bed could be great. If you’re a side sleeper, though, this bed might make things worse due to the lack of pressure relief I experienced. Explore more mattresses for shoulder pain here. |
Support
5/5
Support is where it’s at for the Titan Plus Luxe. It has a sturdy support system of firm foam and coils to keep your body elevated.
I tested this by checking how it felt in all sleeping positions. The results were clear as day. I felt very supported, and my spine was aligned in all three sleeping positions. Plus, my heavyweight colleagues also got good support from it.
Motion Isolation
4/5
Good motion isolation means a mattress keeps movement from traveling across it. Let’s say you sleep beside someone who tosses and turns all the time. In this case, you’re going to want motion isolation.
I tested this using a seismograph app on my phone that picked up motion disturbances on the bed while I moved on it. Tall spikes indicate more motion transfer, while a flatter line means the motion is absorbed more.
Right off the bat, I don’t think motion isolation was horrible. However, the seismograph showed fairly big spikes, which makes me believe it might not be the best if you have a restless partner. This is why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
4/5
I used a temperature gun to evaluate just how well this mattress regulates temperature. I started by taking an initial temperature of the mattress without lying. After that, I lay on the bed for 10 minutes, taking temperature readings at the five- and 10-minute marks.
The temperature went up about 6 degrees from the initial reading to the 10-minute one, which is why I gave it a 4 here. This is pretty good, but I still think most hot sleepers would have preferred a cool-to-the-touch cover as well.
There’s an option to upgrade to the GlacioTex™ cooling cover for an extra fee. I’d recommend this if you want a true cooling bed.
Bounce
5/5
A bouncy bed isn’t necessarily a priority for everyone, but some responsiveness is good because it can help you move around easier on the mattress. If you’re someone who is sexually active, has limited mobility, or changes positions at night, this can be a useful feature to have.
I first tested this with a 10-pound medicine ball, which you can see in the image on the right here. I dropped the medicine ball on the Titan Plus Luxe in order to see just how much it bounced back. The ball caught a lot of air during this test.
It was also a breeze to move around on it, so I expect combo sleepers should have no problem adjusting.
Based on these results, the Titan Plus Luxe easily earned a perfect 5 out of 5 for bounce.
Edge Support
4/5
Edge support is often overlooked, but it can be highly beneficial to couples who like spreading out across the bed. Also, it helps to have a secure perimeter if you often sit on the edge of the bed to get ready in the morning.
To test this, I lay down on the bed for a minute, and then I sat on the edge for another minute, bending over like I’d be tying my shoes.
Lying down, I was surprised by the lack of edge support. It started okay, but the longer I was on the bed, the more I sank.
Sitting upright felt good, but I was a little shaky when bending over to tie my shoes. Now, this might be because the Titan is a tall mattress, and I’m a short person. I was also testing it on a taller base. Still, the sinking and shakiness brought the score down to a 4.
Accessibility
4/5
The accessibility category describes all the extras it brings to the table. The Titan Plus Luxe is uniquely designed for heavier sleepers. Does it execute it well? Based on the experience of my plus-size colleagues, I’d say so.
The policies are industry-standard; you get a 120-night trial and a 10-year warranty, which, to be honest, is enough for most people, but I feel like it could be better for the price.
I give it a 4 instead of 5 because you have to pay extra for a cooling cover. This might not be a dealbreaker for everyone, but it is around $100 for that feature.
Customer Service
4.5/5
I tried Titan’s online chat, but it was unavailable at the time. You can still ask your question, but you’ll be met with a bot that’s surprisingly not very good at answering. Even though you can return the mattress technically for free, there’s a $99 shipping fee, which is kind of frustrating. For these reasons, I gave it a 4.5 instead of a 5.
Performance for Couples
4/5
We get our couples score by looking at other categories helpful to co-sleepers. This includes motion isolation, edge support, bounce, overall support, and cooling. We also consider whether the bed has a versatile firmness and a high enough weight capacity for two sleepers.
I gave it a 4 out of 5 because it performs well in all the abovementioned categories. However, it’s not a perfect 5 out of 5 because some couples might prefer even better motion isolation and more cooling without having to pay extra.
Preference-Based Features
Durability
This mattress looks and feels durable as it’s made from quality materials that should last a long time. Plus, it’s constructed for heavier sleepers, so it’s a bed that is unlikely to sag for at least ten years, thanks to its strong coils and high-density foams.
Bed-in-a-Box
The Titan Plus Luxe is shipped in a box, which makes it easier to move from your doorstep to your bedroom. However, we already mentioned this is a heavy mattress, so you may still need someone to help you move the box around.
Compatible with Various Bases
Brooklyn Bedding advises using a foundation with solid support and minimal to no flex. This means you can use slatted wood or metal foundations where the slats aren’t more than 4 inches apart. You can also use wood or metal foundations and solid platforms.
Made in the USA
The Titan Plus Luxe comes from Brooklyn Bedding, who makes their mattresses at their factory in Phoenix, Arizona.
Construction: What’s Inside the Titan Plus Luxe?
The Titan Plus Luxe is 13 inches tall. The construction starts with a soft cover quilted with an inch of gel memory foam. You can also get an optional cooling panel made from phase-change material if you need advanced cooling.
- Below the pillowtop is a layer of TitanFlex™ foam designed to relieve pressure by cushioning all the sensitive areas.
- Going further down, you will find the Supreme Response Transition Foam, designed to offer deeper compression support that is crucial for heavier bodies. This layer allows a bit of contouring before the support layer.
- The support layer has 8-inch TitanCaliber™ coils that are individually wrapped for motion isolation. The coils provide bounce and support while promoting airflow through the foam layers.
- The base layer is a high-density foam that supports the coil unit above. The foam is an inch tall, giving the entire bed structure, enhancing stability and durability.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
Depending on the size you order, the Titan Plus Luxe will weigh between 75 and 135 pounds, so I recommend having someone help you lift it. Once you take the mattress out of the box, position it on your frame, and carefully cut the plastic wrapping away.
You may notice an odor from the foam layers, but this is standard in many synthetic mattresses. It may seem strong at first, but it will quickly dissipate.
Certifications
- CertiPUR-US® Certified – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

My Verdict of the Titan Plus Luxe Mattress
Overall, I’m happy with how the Titan Plus Luxe feels and performs. It’s a quality mattress that’s meant to last a long time.
It scored highly in nearly all categories except pressure relief, but that’s only because of its performance for side sleepers, though keep in mind while I didn’t love it for that position, my plus-size colleague did. You don’t need to worry about pressure if you’re a back sleeper, whether you’re heavyweight or average-weight.
I think heavyweight sleepers have a solid choice in the Titan Plus Luxe, which earned an overall score of 4.2 out of 5.
