Saving the planet can be tiring work. Fortunately, the WinkBeds EcoCloud can provide environmental crusaders a good night’s rest on an Earth-friendly bed.
With a material list that includes Talalay latex, organic cotton, wool, and recycled steel coils, this mattress comes with Mother Nature’s stamp of approval. Plus, sleepers looking for a durable and responsive bed may also be big fans of this bed.
To help you decide if this bed is for you, I researched it and then rounded up some fellow product testers to run this mattress through a series of tests and evaluations to provide you with a thoroughly detailed review.

Who I Recommend the WinkBeds EcoCloud For:
- Side sleepers – When testing this bed, the other testers and I found that it did a great job lifting us and providing even weight distribution. Although our heavyweight tester reported a little more sinkage around his shoulders, he didn’t feel that he was sinking too far in the bed.
- Shoppers looking for a supportive mattress – The EcoCloud did a great job evenly supporting the other two testers and my body weight. This allowed our spines to stay comfortably aligned, particularly when testing on our backs and sides.
- Lightweight folks – The bed’s buoyancy provides lightweight sleepers with exceptional lift and spinal alignment. The latex layers keep lighter folks from feeling like they are sinking down, even when they are sleeping on their stomachs.
Who I Don’t Recommend the WinkBeds EcoCloud For:
- Budget shoppers – Given the premium natural materials used in the construction of this mattress, the high price tag isn’t surprising, but it may put it out of reach for shoppers who are watching their bottom line.
- Those with mobility issues – The EcoCloud doesn’t have the best edge support, and this can make it harder for those with mobility concerns to get in and out of bed. Those who like to sleep close to the edge of the bed may also want to avoid this mattress since they might feel like they’re falling off.
Customer Reviews of the EcoCloud Mattress
With over 2,00 reviews and 4.6 out of 5 stars on the WinkBeds site, the EcoCloud has an overwhelmingly positive response. Customers appreciate the eco-friendly materials used in the WinkBeds EcoCloud mattress but have noted that the price point may be higher than that of some competitors.
Testing the WinkBeds EcoCloud Mattress
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
The WinkBeds EcoCloud was evaluated using a battery of tests to measure its performance in categories such as support, pressure relief, edge support, cooling, and bounce. Although we perform the same types of tests on all the mattresses we review, we understand that beds are unique.
So, in addition to tests that use seismograph apps, temperature guns, and ball drops, we use testers with different body types to give us human feedback.
My colleagues Loren Bullock and Corey Bryan were the EcoCloud’s lightweight and heavyweight testers, respectively, and I was the average-weight tester.
For more on our testing methodology, visit our product review process page.
Firmness & Feel
Firmness Scale: 6/10
The WinkBeds EcoCloud scores a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which is on the softer side of medium-firm. Beds in this firmness range are often great for a wider range of sleepers since they have more of a versatile feel.
How Does The EcoCloud Bed Feel?
This medium-firm bed has bounce to spare. The coils provide plenty of support to the soft, responsive latex layers. Without the innerspring unit, I think this bed would feel a lot like sleeping in a bowl of Jell-O.
Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types
The WinkBeds EcoCloud can sustain up to 900 pounds of weight.
Side Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | “Wow! I love how buoyant and lifted I feel,” Loren said. She also appreciated how her hips and shoulders, areas where she tends to get pressure build-up, were pressure-free thanks to her evenly distributed weight. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | The EcoCloud held my hips and shoulders at the same height, which was a good sign that my weight was distributed evenly and my spine was aligned. The cushioning of this mattress is delicious! |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Corey’s shoulders sank down a little more than his hips. However, he thought the bed still provided enough pushback to keep him from sinking too much. He also enjoyed how the cushioning allowed just enough contouring to alleviate tension around his joints. |
Back Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | The bounce on this bed is off the charts, and it reminded Loren of a waterbed. However, she still felt some gaps around her lower back and thinks comparable mattresses, like the Puffy Lux Hybrid, may better serve lightweight back sleepers. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | I promise I wasn’t peeking at Loren’s notes, but I, too stated that this bed was the closest I’ve been to sleeping on a water bed. It was so bouncy and reactive when I was moving around on it, but my body was held aloft when I was still. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Corey’s whole spine made contact with this mattress, making him feel aligned and supported. He also noted there were no gaps around his lower back and credited this to his hips being held at the same height as his shoulders. Corey also gave a nod to how the latex layers contoured around his body. |
Stomach Sleepers
Body Type | Weight Range | Tester Feedback |
Lightweight Sleepers | Less than 130 pounds | The EcoCloud was a great fit for Loren when she was on her stomach. Overall, it felt great, and she loved how elevated and aligned she was due to the latex holding her aloft. |
Average-Weight Sleepers | 130-230 pounds | Although I felt my chest and hips sinking, it didn’t seem to cause an imbalance in my spine. However, the pillow height is my concern for average-weight stomach sleepers because it could throw off your spinal alignment. I would skip a pillow altogether. |
Heavyweight Sleepers | More than 230 pounds | Corey said, “My body felt even across the board, and I love how the bounciness allowed the latex surface to move with me as I repositioned.” He said that when he tests beds on his stomach, his shoulders tend to dip down more than his hips, but that wasn’t the case with the EcoCloud. |
Pressure Relief
5/5
If you’re looking for a bed to melt the pressure off you, I suggest you check out the WinkBed EcoCloud. We relied on manual testing for this bed, and the three of us agreed that we experienced a wonderful, weightless feeling around our joints that made contact with the bed.
My hips and shoulders sank evenly when I was on my side, leaving my spine in a comfortable, neutral position. During back sleeper testing, my hips stayed cushioned. Although stomach sleepers tend to need the least amount of pressure relief, I was happy with the cushioning I felt around my chest and hips when on my front side.

Is the WinkBeds EcoCloud Mattress Good for Pain Relief?
The EcoCloud should help prevent and alleviate pain for various sleepers. Its combination of cushioning and support provides an almost weightless feeling. This bed also does an excellent job of relieving pressure around the joints.
Back Pain | The EcoCloud shines when it comes to spinal alignment. The contouring latex layers and the supportive coils provide cushioning and lift that should help many sleepers with back pain. Read more about mattresses for back pain here. |
Hip Pain | Loren, Corey, and I loved the amount of cushion we felt around our hips with this mattress. It also kept our hips elevated and our spines in a neutral position, which should keep hip pain at bay. Read more about mattresses for hip pain here. |
Shoulder Pain | I think that this WinkBeds offering will offer the right amount of sinkage and support to ease shoulder pain. This will primarily be provided by the buoyant latex layers that contour around the shoulders enough to prevent pressure buildup. Explore more mattresses for shoulder pain here. |
Support
5/5
The upper latex layers of this bed are very reactive, reminding Loren and me of sleeping on a waterbed. However, the sturdy coil unit does an excellent job of providing support and stability for the EcoCloud. Corey agreed with Loren and me that his spine felt aligned and his body weight was evenly distributed when on his back and side.
When it came to stomach sleepers, this bed was deemed a good choice for lightweight people only. Corey and I thought our alignment was a hair off in this position, which was exacerbated by using a pillow.
Motion Isolation
2/5
Co-sleepers, especially those with restless partners or pets, will likely want to steer clear of this mattress. Although the EcoCloud’s bounce can be beneficial in some ways, it falls solidly into the con category when it comes to motion isolation.
We felt everything when we moved around on this bed, and the seismograph reading backed up our findings by showing big waves and spikes. To avoid being grumpy with your bedmate about their flipping and flopping keeping you awake, you should probably avoid the EcoCloud.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
3.5/5
Given that this mattress uses Talalay latex, organic cotton, and coils — all of which are known to help with temperature regulation — I was expecting it to go big in this category, but it was pretty average.
Using a temperature gun, I recorded the EcoCloud’s initial surface temperature at 68.8 degrees. After laying on the bed for five minutes, I took another reading and the temperature had risen to 80.5 degrees. After another five-minute session, the EcoCloud reached 82.2 degrees. With an overall 13.7 spike in temperature retention, the EcoCloud was considerably warmer than I anticipated. While the temperature difference between the five and 10-minute mark was small, I thought that the construction and breathable materials would put this bed’s final temperature in the high seventies.
Bounce
5/5
If you want to shoot for the moon with your sleep, the EcoCloud’s bounce may get you there. The responsive latex and springy coils make moving around on this mattress a breeze.
In addition to repositioning and jumping on the mattress, we also tested the bounce by dropping a lacrosse ball and a medicine ball to gauge how quickly the mattress reverted to its original shape. After the testing was completed, I concluded that this would make an excellent choice for combination sleepers and “jumping on the bed” aficionados.
Edge Support
3/5
To test how supportive the EcoCloud was around the edge, I sat on the edge of the bed and tied my shoes for a minute, and then I lay on the edge for a minute. I then evaluate whether the mattress makes me feel secure in both categories.
Although I didn’t feel like I was slipping off of the bed in either position, it was crumbling under my weight enough that I wouldn’t recommend sitting or lying around the EcoCloud’s perimeter. The coils in the middle of the bed were the only thing that kept me from being “sleeper overboard.”
Accessibility
4.5/5
WinkBeds EcoCloud includes many beneficial policies with each purchase, including a forever warranty. The manufacturer has clearly taken great strides to make this bed as eco-friendly as possible. This is wonderful not only for the planet but also for those with allergies or sensitivities.
I deducted a half-point because there is no in-home delivery and setup option. Plus, given that this bed is heavy and doesn’t come with handles, it may be difficult to set up and move on your own.
Customer Service
5/5
WinkBeds has terrific customer service. They provide an extensive FAQ page that is broken out into categories. However, if you don’t find the answer to your question there, you can contact them by phone, email, or chat. I found that the chat service was extremely responsive and had customer service reps who provided detailed answers to my questions.
Performance for Couples
3/5
Sleeping with a partner can be vastly different from sleeping solo, and because of this, we evaluate how we think beds will perform for a partnership. The EcoCloud is a mixed bag. While it has terrific bounce, which should help sexually active couples enjoy some smooth repositioning, its lack of motion isolation means that many co-sleepers are likely to be disturbed by even slight movements from their partner.
Couples who like to utilize the mattress’s entire sleeping surface may feel as if they are falling off the bed due to insecurity around the EcoCloud’s perimeter. Also, couples may find themselves overheating in this bed, which is why it’s bringing a C home on its report card in this category.

Construction: What’s Inside The EcoCloud Mattress?
The WinkBeds EcoCloud is a 12.5-inch mattress with a .5-inch cover made from organic cotton and sustainable New Zealand wool. The bed has two layers under the cover, but there’s also a specially-made perimeter reinforcement for added edge support.
- The comfort layer features 4 inches of Talalay latex sectioned so that it offers increased support in the lower back and a softer feel around the hips and shoulders. On top of that, Talalay latex has an open-cell structure that helps regulate temperature.
- The base layer is also the EcoCloud’s support unit, with individually wrapped coils that are zoned for more enhanced support. These are coils 8 inches tall and made from recycled steel, enhancing this bed’s sustainability. Plus, the coils provide plenty of bounce, pushback, and airflow.
- The perimeter is reinforced with ExtraEdge™ Anit-Sag Support coils. We found this makes the edge support better than in many mattresses within this price range. The edge collapses only a bit when sitting in this area, but lying here should feel secure enough.
Unboxing & Off-Gassing
To open your new EcoCloud bed, all you have to do is slash the box open to remove the plastic covering before you let the mattress unroll. We suggest you place the package on your foundation of choice so the EcoCloud unrolls where it will ultimately be placed.
Once it unrolls, it will take some time to decompress. This can take several hours, so give it some time to fully expand before you try sleeping on it.
Certifications
- OEKO-TEX® – This product contains OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class 1 certified Talalay Latex. This means the latex in this mattress has been thoroughly tested by a third party and found to have a safe level of chemicals that could potentially be harmful, especially for children and seniors.
- GOTS – The cotton in the cover is GOTS-certified organic. This certification ensures that the cotton used in this product has been harvested using socially and environmentally responsible methods.

What is the firmness of the EcoCloud?
The WinkBeds Eco Cloud is medium-firm. On our 1-10 firmness scale, I rated this bed a 6. The upper layers have a buoyant feel, similar to Jello-O, that provides cushioning, while the sturdy coils firm up the overall feel.

My Verdict of the WinkBeds EcoCloud Mattress
If saving the planet helps you sleep better, you may want to consider the WinkBeds EcoCloud. Made with eco-friendly materials such as organic cotton, Talalay latex, and recycled steel coils, the EcoCloud allows eco-warriors to rest easy.
I loved the weightless buoyancy I experienced and how evenly this mattress distributed my weight and kept my spine aligned. However, I expected more from its cooling capabilities and feared the motion transfer might be too much for couples. Even with a few downsides, the EcoCloud was a solid performer and earned an overall 4 out of 5 rating.
