Tempur-Pedic is one of the original names when it comes to memory foam beds. In fact, their science-backed material was originally based on NASA seat material for flight missions.

However, a common problem with memory foam is that it can retain more heat. Tempur-Pedic took note of this issue and developed the LuxeBreeze®, which not only provides pressure relief but is designed to be up to 10 degrees cooler.I tested the Medium Hybrid version of the LuxeBreeze®, and in this review, I’ll talk honestly about its pros and cons so you can decide if this is the bed for you.

Who I Recommend the LuxeBreeze® For:

• Hot sleepers – This bed definitely felt like a true cooling mattress. In fact, the longer I lay on the bed, the cooler it felt like it got – excellent news for hot sleepers.

• Sleepers with joint pain – Tempur-Pedic’s pressure-relieving technology does not fail to deliver in this mattress. I think this could make it an excellent choice for those with joint pain, injuries, arthritis, or other sensitivities.

Who I Don’t Recommend the LuxeBreeze® For:

• Sleepers who want some bounce – Even though I tested the LuxeBreeze® Hybrid model, it wasn’t very bouncy. This was surprising, considering coils often add more bounce to a mattress. If you prefer a cooling bed with a good amount of bounce, I’d recommend one of the best innerspring mattresses instead.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 6/10 (Medium Hybrid)

On a mattress firmness scale from 1 to 10 in which 10 is the firmest, I gave the Medium Hybrid model a 6 firmness rating, which we consider a medium-firm feel. The mattress is unique in that it is adaptive and heat-absorbing, so when I first lay down on it, it felt firmer; more like an 8. As I continued to lie there and the mattress absorbed heat, it softened to a 6.

How Does the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® Feel?

This mattress starts out feeling firmer, and then it gradually softens while getting noticeably cooler. The foam is pliable and conforms to the body’s curves, and it takes a moment for it to bounce back into shape when moving positions or getting up from the bed.

The Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® felt pliable under key pressure points like the hips and shoulders. When I was on my side, I could feel my shoulder and hip sinking comfortably into the mattress, but not so much that it compromised my spine’s alignment or made me feel “stuck.” On both my stomach and my back, my weight felt evenly distributed and supported, so I couldn’t feel any pressure building up.

The reason it got a 4 here instead of a 5 is that it may initially feel too firm and unyielding for petite side sleepers.

Is the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® Good for Pain Relief?

In general, Tempur-Pedic beds can be helpful for pain relief as this high-quality memory foam hugs the body to help reduce pressure. However, it might not be supportive enough for some types of pain, depending on your body weight.

Back Pain	The LuxeBreeze® Hybrid that I tested should do a good job of relieving back pain for sleepers of any body type when sleeping on their backs or sides. On the stomach, however, I think this bed might be a little bit too soft for heavyweight sleepers, which could add to back pain. Read more about mattresses for back pain here.
Hip Pain	Hip pain is often caused by the hips dipping down into a too-soft mattress when sleeping on the stomach or not feeling cushioned enough on a too-firm mattress when sleeping on the side. This mattress does a good job relieving hip pain in both positions for most body types, though heavyweight stomach sleepers may want something slightly firmer if dealing with hip pain. Shoulder Pain	Oftentimes, shoulder pain is caused by side-sleeping on a mattress that is too firm. Fortunately, this mattress should work well for most body types, absorbing pressure around the shoulder. Lightweight side sleepers may want to opt for the soft model, but I think most others should do well on the medium-firm mattress. Explore more mattresses for shoulder pain here.

The LuxeBreeze®mattress I tested is a hybrid mattress with a support system of over 1,300 double-stacked coils. In the case of the Soft and Firm versions of this bed, the support system is made from foam instead of coils. 

This bed gets the highest score for its cooling abilities. It’s very cool to the touch, and I could feel the heat dissipating just seconds after lying down. I did test this mattress without sheets, but I am sure this level of cooling would be felt through the sheets, which would be very helpful for those who sleep hot.

Bounce helps with getting in and out of bed, especially for people with mobility issues. It can also help you switch positions, which means it’s good for combination sleepers and sexually active couples.This hybrid bed doesn’t have the bouncy quality that innerspring mattresses or some other hybrids do, as it mostly feels like memory foam. The foam itself is not as responsive as some other foams; it takes a while to respond and bounce back into shape, especially as the foam is “activated” and has been made more pliable. At first, it feels firm, but it does not stay that way for long. Based on these results, I gave it a 3 out of 5.

Edge support is an important quality, ensuring that you can use the full surface of the bed without the edges sinking down under your weight. Lying down on this bed for a full minute, there was no movement or sinking beneath my weight whatsoever, even to the very edge of the mattress. 

I also sat at the edge for a minute, and during this test, there was more sinking. That said, it still feels very easy to get in and out of bed, but I still took off a point for the sinkage I noticed while seated.

Our accessibility score looks at whether a bed brings anything unique to the table, including if it has a special design and actuary delivers on that. The LuxeBreeze® is designed with cooling in mind, which is often a drawback of memory foam beds. When it came to cooling, the LuxeBreeze® was exceptional, earning a well-deserved perfect score. On top of that, it comes with free white glove delivery. All of this earned it a solid 5 in our accessibility category. 

In this category, we look at the quality of customer service and how the brand upholds warranty and policies. Tempur-Pedic is easy to reach via phone, email, or chat on their website. However, you will be chatting with a virtual assistant instead of a real person.

Also, there’s a $175 return shipping fee that applies if you want to return this mattress. I deducted a point here because of it.

Typically, the best mattresses for couples share important qualities: good overall support, motion isolation, cooling, bounce, and edge support. They should also have a versatile firmness and high enough weight capacity for two people.

The LuxeBreeze® performs well with motion isolation, support, cooling, and edge support. However, this mattress doesn’t have a lot of bounce, which can be a drawback for couples who are sexually active. While it doesn’t have a definitive weight limit, the LuxeBreeze® does have a medium-firm feel, which is a good middle-ground feel for co-sleepers. 

All that said, the minimal bounce and unclear weight limit are why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.

Construction: What’s Inside the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze®?

The construction of your Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® will depend on the specific model you choose. This review focuses on the Medium Hybrid LuxeBreeze® because that’s what I tested, so the construction details below will be for that particular mattress. The Medium Hybrid LuxeBreeze® is 13 inches tall and includes several layers for comfort, cooling, and support.

• The top layer is made of Tempur’s Pure Cool® Plus Material. This is an enhanced version of their exclusive cooling material that pulls heat away from the body and is designed to lower the mattress’s temperature by up to 10 degrees.
• Below is a layer of hybrid material. This foam transition layer is one of two layers separating the top cooling layer from the coils beneath. It provides easier movement and enhanced edge support.
• Moving further down, you’ll find the Ventilated Advanced Relief™ Material. This unit is made to relieve pressure and has added ventilation for increased airflow.
• The bottom layer is made up of over 1,300 double-stacked innerspring coils to provide you with extra support and airflow, compared to their all-foam model.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® arrived fully expanded, so I didn’t notice any chemical, off-gassing smell. I also didn’t have to deal with unboxing, as this bed comes with free white-glove delivery.

• CertiPUR-US® certified: The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

What is the difference between the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® and ProBreeze®?

These two mattresses are similar, but the LuxeBreeze® is designed to sleep up to 10 degrees cooler, whereas the ProBreeze® is designed to sleep 5 degrees cooler. The LuxeBreeze® is also slightly taller at 13 inches, while the ProBreeze® is 12 inches tall. Finally, the ProBreeze® comes with just one firmness option (Medium), but with the LuxeBreeze®, you can choose between Soft, Medium Hybrid, and Firm.

Can you flip a Tempur-Pedic mattress?

No, Tempur-Pedic mattresses are not designed to be flipped over. However, you can rotate your mattress to ensure an even wear and tear.

Should I use a boxspring with my Tempur-Pedic mattress?

Tempur-Pedic does not recommend using a boxspring with their products as it won’t give the mattress the support it needs. In fact, the mattress warranty will be void if you use a boxspring with it.

My Verdict of the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze® Mattress

The Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze is an excellent choice for those who sleep hot at night. The cooling is top-notch; I could actually feel it working to dissipate heat as I lay there.

I would say the Medium Hybrid model is a good fit for light to heavyweight sleepers, though plus-size stomach sleepers may not get enough support as it softens over time.

Though this mattress works well in most positions, I don’t think it would work as well for combination sleepers who move between positions through the night because this foam takes a solid second to react. This bed earned an overall score of 4.1 out of 5.
