DreamCloud Premier vs. DreamCloud Premier Rest: Firmness, Feel, and Construction
Firmness & Feel
Mattress firmness is a measurement of how hard or soft a bed feels. We rate this on a 1-10 scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 the firmest. While both of these mattresses fall in the medium range of our firmness scale, I found the Premier to be slightly firmer compared to the Premier Rest.
Mattress | Sleep Advisor Firmness Rating | Feel | Tester Feedback |
---|---|---|---|
DreamCloud Premier | 6.5/10 | Medium-Firm | I rated the DreamCloud Premier a 6.5 out of 10, which is a true medium-firm feel. You definitely notice the plushness from the pillow top, and I’d say the Premier feels more like you’re melting in the mattress rather than ‘on top of’ it. |
DreamCloud Premier Rest | 5.5/10 | Medium | Meanwhile, my firmness rating for the Premier Rest was slightly softer at a 5.5 out of 10, which we consider to be more of a medium or medium-plush feel. Like the Premier, the Premier Rest’s pillow top was soft and cozy. |
Mattress Construction
The DreamCloud Premier and the DreamCloud Premier Rest are both hybrid mattresses that mix memory and poly foam layers with an innerspring unit made up of coils. They each contain a pillow top layer in which memory foam is quilted into the cover. The main difference is that the Premier Rest is 14 inches tall compared to the Premier’s 13-inch profile.

DreamCloud Premier vs. DreamCloud Premier Rest: Body Type and Sleep Position
DreamCloud Premier
Body Type | Weight Range | Side Sleeping | Back Sleeping | Stomach Sleeping |
---|---|---|---|---|
Lightweight | Less than 130 pounds | Loren, who helped me test for lightweight sleepers, said that side sleepers in this weight range should get plenty of pressure relief from this bed for their hip and shoulder. | While Loren pointed out that this bed would likely feel firmer to lighter-weight people, back sleepers here should still feel comfortable on it. | Loren was split on this one for stomach sleeping. She acknowledged that some people might be fine on it, but her lower back did dip a little. |
Average-Weight | 130-230 pounds | Based on my experience as an average-weight tester, I think the Premier will give side sleepers here that ideal mix of pressure relief that doesn’t skimp on support. | I expect my fellow average-weight sleepers will experience more sinkage for back sleeping compared to petite folks, but I didn’t notice any issues with support during my testing. | Like Loren, my hips dipped a bit, and I wasn’t thrilled with the weight distribution. I’d go with a firmer bed than this for stomach sleeping. |
Heavyweight | More than 230 pounds | Our plus-size teammate, Spencer, experienced solid cushioning and support from the Premier while testing it for side sleeping. | Heavy people will inevitably sink in more because they carry more weight, but Spencer still felt this bed gave him decent support. | Spencer didn’t feel this gave him ideal support and instead recommended the DreamCloud Original. |
DreamCloud Premier Rest
Body Type | Weight Range | Side Sleeping | Back Sleeping | Stomach Sleeping |
---|---|---|---|---|
Lightweight | Less than 130 pounds | As a softer bed, lightweight side sleepers should get a cloud-like sensation with the Premier Rest. | I expect petite sleepers will get a good amount of sinkage but still feel supported enough that their spine stays aligned. | Lightweight people are the only group who may get away with stomach sleeping on the Premier Rest, but I still think they’d be better off on a firmer bed than this so they don’t take a chance on spinal alignment. |
Average-Weight | 130-230 pounds | This was too soft for me, even for side sleeping. The Premier Rest didn’t miss a beat on pressure relief, but I didn’t get enough support, especially in my hips. | Personally, I don’t like sinking this much while lying on my back, but as far as spine alignment, it still delivers. | I was uncomfortable on the Premier Rest while on my stomach, plain and simple. It was especially bothersome around my neck and hips. |
Heavyweight | More than 230 pounds | Plus-size side sleepers will sink in even more than I did, so I don’t recommend this one for them. | Heavier sleepers will sink in more, but I think support should still be okay for this group. That said, a slightly firmer option would be best if, like me, you don’t like to sink so much. | Heavyweight stomach sleepers won’t get enough support on the Premier Rest while stomach sleeping to keep their spine in a healthy alignment. |
DreamCloud Premier vs. DreamCloud Premier Rest: Mattress Testing Performance
Pressure Relief
- DreamCloud Premier Pressure Relief Score: 4.5/5
- DreamCloud Premier Rest Pressure Relief Score: 5/5
When we evaluate a mattress’s pressure-relieving capabilities, we like to incorporate a pressure map and consider how our joints actually feel, especially for the hips and shoulders. Both the Premier and Premier Rest are exceptional mattresses for pressure relief thanks to their cushiony pillow tops.
That said, I did experience some pressure buildup around my shoulders on the Premier, which you can see in the pressure map image on the right showing red and yellow (meaning pressure buildup) around my shoulder. This is why it’s rated slightly lower than the Premier Rest.
Support
- DreamCloud Premier Support Score: 4.5/5
- DreamCloud Premier Rest Support Score: 3.5/5
When I looked at how supportive these beds are, I focused on how well they kept my heaviest areas lifted so that my spine remained aligned. Not surprisingly, the Premier did better here, which is likely because it’s firmer than the Premier Rest. The Premier’s Rest’s softer feel means it going to be more limiting when it comes to how supportive it is for different sleepers, so the Premier outperforms here. That said, neither bed is great for stomach sleepers.
Motion Isolation
- DreamCloud Premier Motion Isolation Score: 3.5/5
- DreamCloud Premier Rest Motion Isolation Score: 3.5/5
Motion isolation is a category we test to see how well a mattress absorbs movement so that it doesn’t travel across the bed. This is typically a big help for couples so they don’t disturb each other if they move around at night.
As part of our testing for this, we use a seismograph device that can pick up motion transfer when we move around on the mattress. In the case of the Premier, small movements weren’t an issue, but I noticed lots of spikes in the seismograph reading when I made bigger movements. Meanwhile, the Premier Rest had a similar story with small movements, but I felt like bigger ones were rocking the entire bed.
Both of these are average at motion isolation—not great but not terrible. If you need better motion isolation, I’d recommend the all-foam DreamCloud Premier Memory Foam.
Temperature Regulation / Cooling
- DreamCloud Premier Cooling Score: 3.5/5
- DreamCloud Premier Rest Cooling Score: 3.5/5
When we evaluate cooling, we look at how well a bed can remain cool even after someone is lying on it. In the case of these DreamCloud beds, they’re pretty average, and I wouldn’t say either of these is a cooling bed. Often, hybrids are adept at cooling because they have the advantage of extra airflow from the coils, but both the Premier and Premier Rest didn’t keep as cool as other hybrids I’ve tested.
If temperature regulation is a big factor in your purchase, I suggest a stronger cooling mattress instead.
Bounce
- DreamCloud Premier Bounce Score: 4.5/5
- DreamCloud Premier Rest Bounce Score: 5/5
Kids may love a bouncy bed, but it’s actually helpful for us grown-ups too. That’s because it can help make repositioning easier. If you’re a combo sleeper, sexually active, or have limited mobility, this is a category to consider in your decision-making process.
I evaluated bounce by seeing how quickly the materials bounced back to their original shape after pressure was applied and then released. Hybrids often give good bounce because of the coils in them, and while both the Premier and Premier Rest do exceptionally well here, the Premier Rest slightly outperforms the Premier in this category.
Edge Support
- DreamCloud Premier Edge Support Score: 3.5/5
- DreamCloud Premier Rest Edge Support Score: 3.5/5
Strong edge support means you feel well-supported while lying and sitting along the edge of the bed. If you share a mattress this means you can comfortably spread out when you sleep, so this is something for co-sleepers to consider.
I tested edge support for these beds by doing a seated test for one minute and a lying test for another minute. I ended up having a similar experience with both beds. Lying down was fine, but didn’t feel secure while seated at the edge, which is why they both earned average scores in this category.
Couples
- DreamCloud Premier Couples Score: 3/5
- DreamCloud Premier Rest Couples Score: 3/5
Our couples scores are actually based on the scores a mattress gets in other categories most beneficial to co-sleepers, such as overall support, edge support, motion isolation, bounce, and cooling. Neither the Premier nor Premier Rest ranked especially well for co-sleepers because of their lower scores in categories like motion isolation, cooling, edge support, and, in the case of the Premier Rest, overall support.
I think there are better mattresses for couples out there, but if you and your partner have your heart set on one of these particular mattresses, I’d suggest the Premier over the Premier Rest since it does fare better in overall support.

DreamCloud Premier vs. DreamCloud Premier Rest FAQs
What is the DreamCloud Premier Rest?
The DreamCoud Premier Rest is a hybrid mattress from DreamCloud that’s an upgrade model from DreamCloud’s Original Hybrid.
Which DreamCloud is best for back pain?
Support is a key element for helping with back pain. In this regard, the DreamCoud Original, which got a perfect score in this category when I tested it, would be best. That said, the DreamCoud Premier only ranked slightly lower in support, so it should still be helpful for back pain for many people.
How long does it take for DreamCloud Premier Rest to expand?
You should notice the DreamCloud Premier Rest starting to expand right away after you unbox it, but it should reach its full size in about 72 hours (or three days) after unboxing.
What firmness is the DreamCloud Premier mattress?
I rated the DreamCloud Premier a 6.5 out of 10 for firmness, which means it’s a medium-firm bed.
Our Final Thoughts on the DreamCloud Premier vs. DreamCloud Premier Rest
So who takes the crown? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for.
The Premier Rest slightly outperforms the Premier in pressure relief and bounce, but it also comes with a higher price tag. However, the DreamCloud premier boasts a more medium-firm feel that should provide better support to a wider range of sleepers. While these beds could be good choices for many side and back sleepers, I wouldn’t recommend either to stomach sleepers, who typically need firmer mattresses to keep their hips lifted.
Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology
To evaluate the DreamCloud Premier and DreamCloud Premier Rest, I used a combination of hands-on subjective tests with data tools for more objective results. I tested the mattress in specific categories most relevant to shoppers, including support, pressure relief, cooling, motion isolation, edge support, and bounce.
I also tested each mattress for side, back, and stomach sleeping to see how supportive and pressure-relieving it felt in different postures. Since body weight can impact how a bed feels, I also enlisted the help of my colleagues, Loren Bullock and Spencer Bland, who provided feedback as lightweight and heavyweight testers.
